He Hate Me

James Toney has 70 wins, and has fought the best of the best. I know he's fat and recently was involved with roids, as an american fighter compiling 70 wins is truly impressive, early on Toney fought every other month sometimes fighting consecutive months. I don't think he has gotten his due respect for all that he's accomplished in the ring.

A good, tremendously talented fighter with an awesome record.
But he lacks the likable personality, and his recent steroid allegations has been a black eye to boxing.:bart

He is crazy at times for sure. His personality can be abrasive if he's challenged, otherwise people say he's a nice guy.

Nah-these mistakes don't erase his greatness one bit...though they DO add to it a negative aspect which can't and shouldn't be overlooked. He was one of the most skilled nad fearsome 160-190lb guys all time. Nunn, Jirov, Mcalum2,
barkley-some of my favorites. I must confess I even liked his personality, in a an age of fake-assed earnestness a la Gatti, or BS "I'm a thug" a la Judah + Mayweather it was refreshing to listen to a throwback MAN who spoke his mind and had a good time doing it.

I'm sure Toney will be around for a long time like Duran was. I hope he fights in Michigan soon so I can come see him!
One of my favorite fights of his is with Evander Holyfield. He pounds Holy a couple times, then points to the judges and smirks as if to say "Did you see what I just did?" Or Holyfield is hanging all over him trying to control himself and Toney salutes. Hilarious. Same as when Toney sticks his tongue out at Evander.
In his prime, Toney was a work of art. I hope I get to see him live. The biggest fighter I've ever seen is Tommy Hearns about 1.5 years ago fighting probably his last fight.

Toney's recent roid tests and gluttony have pretty much made me stop rooting (and caring) for him, but for his whole career, he's still one of my favorites.
I love watching him take apart fighters. It's beautiful to watch.

Round 12 of Toney vs Jirov comes to mind. :bbb

I would have all types of appreciation and respect for him had it not been for the steroid use. I think that the fact that he got caught twice puts a question mark on his entire career. Who knows how many times he did it and got away with it.

So many posters dismiss Toney after that Steroid scandal, it's not even funny. How can so many so called boxing fans not recgonize his ability, his greatness?
James Toney is a throw back fighter..
I remember James Toney was saying he would knock out Mike Tyson.
They where both in the same camp, he also said. Mike Tyson could have Freddie Roach in his corner aswell.

Man what a guy. Too bad his voice is a little messed up. I think he'd be a fun guy to listen to as a commentator.

How anyone can respect a fighter that was caught roiding twice is beyond me.

Taking roids doesn't change the fact that he's a masterful boxer..
He took roids when he was clearly past his prime so I don't see what the big deal is...
It means people stop caring much for what he does in the future because he cheats too much.
I still remained a fan after the Ruiz roid test, but I've given up on him after his last terrible performance and positive roid test.
Oh well, there's always the Barkley, McCallum I, Williams, Delgado, Holyfield, Jirov, Robinson, Washington, etc....fights to watch and enjoy.

When I think of James Toney, I think of a crafty boxer. Crafty boxers don't get enough respect I think. He certainly deserves credit for the skills he has shown in the ring & for his success in his long career.
The roid thing was a bad move and I think he should have avoided the heavyweight division if he felt he couldn't have succeeded naturally. I believe he could have beaten the clinch-man Ruiz without the juice.

He was only caught taking steroids in his prime that does not mean he had not used them sooner. The fact that he was caught twice to me says that he thought he had a full proof method to not getting caught (possibly one that had worked in the past). IMO it puts a question mark on his entire career especially the fights where he looked the most muscular such as Jirov and Holyfield.
Everything else is meaningless IMO. You don't get to choose which rules you are going to follow and if you can't compete without breaking any of them then you don't deserve the respect that you are claiming that James deserves.

James Toney is should be remembered as an ATG. He was fun to watch in his prime and was also one of the craftiest fighters I have ever seen during my lifetime.

It could just mean he didn't use until late in his career, when he was fighting bigger guys and also having injuries.
It's sad and extremely dissapointing that someone with the fighting skills of Toney lacks any sense of discipline in terms of taking care of his body outside the ring. The fact that Toney's last positive steroid test was a drug used for HORSES TO LOSE WEIGHT showed this once again.
Toney looked the most muscular ever against Booker.

Yes it could but it could also mean that you had used before and just not gotten caught. Like I said, it puts a question mark on the entire career. I didn't say that it emlimates it.

I agree with a poster above about the fact that steroids cannot enhance the skills, and Toney definitely deserves appreciation for his skill. That being said, in my eyes he is a complete uneducated degenerate. One has to also wonder about people intelligence, whoever considers Toney as funny and outspoken.

And he's not a "geek", like Kelly Pavlik, right?
James Toney would psychologically bully Kelly Pavlik, and beat him up in the street, if he saw him. Kelly Pavlik will be scared to death and slobberring all over his face, like he was in the stare down with Jeramine Taylor. Take one look at James Toney's intimidating face and 20" neck, Kelly Pavlik will look even more ill.
James Toney is much like Nigel Benn, he will enjoy a bust up, anywhere, anytime.
James Toney refused to do road work, any conditioning drills. And would just turn up in the gym, and fight, and spar 300 rounds. Bionic, he is a freak with his boxing skills.
He will abuse Kelly Pavlik.

James Toney would hit him in the face in the press con, and then proceed to smash his car up.

Should be permanantly banned from the sport for blatant cheating twice. A joke of an overweight, non training, over the hill fat ass.
