View Full Version : Undisputed Champions
Who was the last fighter to hold the WBC, WBA and IBF?
Who was the last fighter to hold these three plus the WBO?
I remember O'Neil Bell holding the main three after beating Mormeck in 2006, and jermaine taylor picked up all 4 titles by beating bhop in 2005. anyone more recent?
is anyone likely to hold the 4 titles again, or is it just too pointless?
Darchinyan held the big 3 at SuperFly last year until he vacated the IBF.

Hamed should have had all 4 titles.
But i think Bernard was the first to do it after beating ODLH.
Calzaghe should have done it too.
As far as I'm aware Hopkins and Taylor are the only two fighters to have held all four titles simultaneously.

If Calzaghe had faced Inkin as mandatory for the IBF he'd won from Lacy, he'd have been undisputed. I considered him undisputed after he beat Kessler.

joe would have done it but he would have had to fight another IBF mandatory before kessler....forgotten who it was...?

Some bum called Robert Stieglitz, who ended up fighting for the vacant title, and go ktfo in 3 by another bum, who then lost it to Bute.
Its a disgrace.

100% correct:good. Off of the top of my head, I think JC is the only other fighter to hold all titles but not at the same time, but I may be wrong.

Its a are hard thing to do and not worth it imo... Look at some of the joke mandatories Hopkins had to face in order to keep all those belts. And while your beating these joke number 1 'challengers' the super fights pass you by.

Fucking hell, damn the Ishypedia's knowledge! There was a good debate a while back about whether Haye was entitled to the 'Undisputed' title as well. In fairness, it's an almost impossible task getting all four titles whilst taking mandatories for each belt.

Haye will be the next to do it.
Let's say he does, would that make him the first person to hold at least three of the big four plus the Ring belt in two divisions? What did holy hold at cruiser?

ah... Holy was undisputed at cruiser as well

Pac has held the Ring title in a record 3 divisions. JC also held that title in two as well as Hopkins. Ishy might be able to name some more...;)

I think if you get the WBA, WBC & IBF title you are undisputed.
That said, if you have the WBA or WBC for more than ten minutes, you aren't even undisputed champion of that organisation.
The phrase 'undisputed champion' is bordering on meaningless these days.

Haye woulda beat the snot out of USS cunningham, and i think he woulda done the same to Adamek.
Holyfield held all the titles at cruiserweight except WBO.
As did Michael Spinks, however there was no WBO at the time, so i guess u can say Spinks was truly undisputed.

Yeah, back then you had the likes of Hagler, Curry and later Tyson who had the big 3 and were truly undisputed.

RJJ was unlucky not to have held all 4 - titles he held during his first stint at light-heavy:
WBA
WBC
IBF
IBO
And...
---------
WBF
IBA
NBA

Back then you never had domestic level fighters becoming mandatories.
If you were the champion, you were either the best, or at worst the second best in a division.
These days, you could be the best fighter in the world.... without holding a title.

RJJ can never be said to be undisputed in any division, he point blank refused to fight Tiger, and also Politricked his way into getting his WBC title, rather than fighting Rocchigiani.

Undisputed is a very strange term, literally we so far have never had an undisputed champion as even if a fighter held all the world titles some challenger would dispute his claim in a fight...
But undisputed as a boxing term came redundant when Tommy Hearns fought Kinchen for the WBO 168lbs belt, and first gave that organization some mainstream exposure...
The IBF, like the WBC and WBO, may of been bastard off spring of the WBA (NBA), but at least they used sound judgement in giving IBF belts to dominant champions when they were formed in 83 (Holmes, Spinks, Hagler and Curry).

Undisputed really means the WBC, WBA and IBF. Lewis-Holy was for the undisputed title as was Hopkins-Trinidad and Zoo-Judah.

Zab Judah was undisputed (ex WBO) welterweight champ a few years ago after beating Cory Spinks (who had beaten Mayorga)
As Chris Rock said "if it's undisputed, what's all the f&%king fighting for?"

The WBO are on the same level as the other 3 unfortunatley.
I seem to remember Juan Diaz and Nate Campbell held the WBA, WBO and IBF titles but were not seen as Undisputed because Casamayor was WBC and Ring champion.

There's really no logical reason at this point to include the IBF, but not include the WBO.

why those 3 belts and not WBO. Going through the divisions some of the WBO champs are the best in the divisions.
W. Klitscko, Pavlik, Pacquiao, Bradley, JM Marquez, JM Lopez, Ivan Calderon are all WBO Title holders.
