I just watched this fight, it was amazing, a true toe-toe war, with powerpunches thrown by both men constantly. It should have been fight of the year. The fights available on youtube in full

Rounds 1-3 - Close rounds, both fighters throwing amazing shots, I'd say Phillips won 2 of these rounds

Rounds 4-6 - Tyszu completely dominated these rounds, throwing his full amazing combinations, hooks straights the lot, Phillips ate them all.

Rounds 7-10 - Tyszu was winning the 7th until a Vince right floored him. Vince took the fight from then on, Tyszu was still throwing some amazing shots but Vince just outbrawled him from then on. In the 9th Tyszu was getting a bad beating but still throwing powerpunches back. The beggining of the 10th was back and forth with Vince dominating until Phillips

Conclusions

1. Tyszu was at his best in this fight, he did everything he'd usually do. Maybe he'd do better if he fought defensively but this isn't his style. Phillips was simply a bad style match up. Too much power, too much ferocity and too strong. People said Tyszu had a bad training camp, but I doubt it was as bad as Phillips troubles with crack addiction and homelessness.

2. Tyszus defense is lacking and a big weakness. Phillips could hit him at will, pretty much. So could Hatton, Judah, Mitchell - not all of those could take advantage of this though.

3. Phillips is an excellent fighter with great power. Definately not an ATG and he went off the rails after this fight but he was exciting and gave us a sensational war.

4. Phillips beat a much better Tyszu much more emphatically than Ricky Hatton.

5. I think Tyszu wasn't keen on a rematch after taking such a beating and thats why it never happened even when Phillips got old.

Aren't these exclusive statements?

It was a great fight, but this was not KT at his best. His best came after this fight, after he'd reviewed what went wrong and made adjustments.

Against Vince KT pretty much came straight ahead and just pistoned right hands with no thought about defense or range. When he couldn't get Phillips out of there with sheer ferocity he didn't have a backup plan, tired, and got stopped by Phillip's huge right hand power.

The KT that beat up Mitchell and Judah was far more measured and patient, a better judge of range, and an all around more mature and dangerous fighter.

The thing that made KT great was his attention to craft and the way he bounced back after this potentially devestating ko loss to become undisputed champion again.

Phillips wouldve beaten a lot of fighters that night. I wouldnt even rule him out against Chavez at 140, Frankie Randle did it. Kosta looked good in that fight to me in that fight too. He mightve improved after his loss but I wish he wouldve given Phillips a rematch justs to prove it.

The thing was Tyszu never faced a fighter like Phillips again until he faced Hatton. So we don't know if he improved to the level where he could beat a Prime Phillips. Against Hatton Tyszu showed he still had the same defensive frailties.

Mitchell & Judah & Hurtado were all skilled, fast B-Class fighters who weren't very strong and had weak chins. Both hit Tyszu at will though and Hurtado floored Zoo 2 times

So its safe to say Tyszu never developed an effective defense. Was he more measured and boxed better after Phillips? Maybe but I actually think against Mitchell he was physically not quite as good as fought Phillips.

Tyszu was a fantastic fighter and very exciting and its a pretty he didnt get a shot at 1 of the ATGs of our Era to see how well he could have done. I think his Gattiesque defense would mean ultimately against an ATG he'd come up short

Phillips was very good, his attacks were pretty predictable but he was a physical BEAST that night. I think he may have taken the old Chavez that was around then
