I just watched Willie Kickett fight Golden Boy prospect Adrien Broner on youtube and from what i could see i believe Cool Willie could be something special in the future,
Willie was taking the fight to Broner for the first 3 rounds and was doing well, out punching Broner with quick hand speed and landing nice lead-hand rights, but Broner started to time Willie and land counters, Broner landed a devistating counter left hook which snapped Willie's head around and sent him down, Willie took that punch well and beat the count unaffected,
from then on, Broner suddenly came on full of confidence and started attacking Willie landing a nice counter and stopping Willie in the 6th.
If Willie was to tighten his defense up and bring his hands straight back to his chin after he punches i could see him troubling the best in the world! From what i could see, he has very nice hand speed but once he lands a punch he doesn't bring his hand straight back in the line he threw it out, he drops his hands straight down after he lands, in which top fighters like Broner will be able to counter.
I would also like to see Willie throw more 5-6 punch combo's, because when he did throw more than 4 punches at a time at Broner it really troubled him, but he seems to only throw quick singles or 1-2's,
So if Willie is able to tighten his defense up and work on throwing 5-6 punches at a time, i see him destroying the best fighters in the world.

He doesn't quite have enough sting in his punches and his chin looks a bit suspect.................. nevertheless he's got potential but not at the elite level imo.

I don't know about his chin, the left hook Broner landed in the 6th really snapped his around, Willie looked to have taken that punch very well,
I think he also looked a bit smaller than Broner, he should drop down a division, then his punches will make more of an impact.

he has got some real talent for sure, may be a bit chinny, needs to work of his defence more.
also a lack of power is a bit obvious
hope he comes back after a year of rest....or a year on the piss

Lets not kid ourselves Marcus, it will probably be a year on the piss.
He has talent to burn and can still go a long way if he wants it

Kickett needs a ticket to the east
from National Indigenous Times - Issue 218 - 6th Feb 2011
Many Boxing enthusiasts are wondering where Willie Kickett is as he seems to have dropped out of the boxing game.
Remember Willie?
He came upon the scene with some early decisive wins and even at an early stage he was being hailed as another Anthony Mundine.
He was regarded as the next big Indigenous boxing star of the future.
However, against some stern opposition, he was knocked out when he let his guard down and suffered the consequences by being upended.
No disgrace for at the time of his defeat he was on top of the fight but, as I say, he allowed himself to be caught.

5 fights since the Elomar stuff up for 4 wins doesn't seem like fading away to me. Willie showed ability and heart when he fought hot prospect Adrien Broner before going down in the 6th.
Willie has only been out of the game for 6 months. Hope to see him back in 2011.
How do you see an Elomar v Kickett rematch panning out Opionated Aussie ?
Interesting to note that Broner has had 9 stoppage wins since the Kickett fight 5 of them 1st round KO's.
On 5/3/11 Broner fights Daniel Ponce de leon. 41-2-0

I always thought kickett would be the real deal, best footwork in Oz at the time and still a young fella, a real shame he isnt giving it 100%.
But I still think the elomar punch was the biggest fluke in the history of friday night nitro boxing! Had his eyes shut and everything!

I like Kicketts style etc, quite a good boxer and well spoken, very polite etc. Just one problem, he was stopped COLD by Elmoar and i dont rate Elmoar very highly, someone like Tomilson would hand Elmoars ass to him on a plate, not even in the same league yet the same guy was able to ICE Kickett with an over hand right?
I hope Willy has another form of employment, he is going to need it in the future, i dont see him going very far in boxing at all.

I liked Willie from early on, has it all. If hes led well, could be anything. I was talking to a thai guy he fought, i asked will he fight willie again, he said if he can work out a way to see his hands, he would.

I always felt Willie was just a good regional-belt level type fighter. I certainly never brought in some of the crazy hype that was surrounding him initially.
I think Craig did a really good job with him, albeit I think Willie lacked focus at times and that don't help one iota in the boxing game. Getting iced bad by Elomar that night (one of the biggest I've seen) certainly wouldn't have helped the kid's confidence.
There's no real sting in Willy's punches, albeit I do admit he's got fast hands.
Good luck to him if he wants to apply himself 100%, he certainly comes across as a well presented young man when on TV after his fights.
Maybe focus his energies on Super-Feather, work hard and get himself rated and if someone like Will Tomlinson can win a world-title, there's a potential homegrown Aussie world-title match-up that due to styles wouldn't actually be a bad fight in my opinion.
