14 games scheduled in the next 27 days.

They are currently 3-35 (averaging one win every 11.666 games)

1-9 in their last ten.

OK, gang...they play Indiana tonight.

For those banking on an epic loss streak - fingers crossed! Let's go (down the drain), Nets! Fifty turnovers! <10% FG percentage! :happy

This prop bet will be closed the day of each game and then reopened until the day of the next one (to prevent lousy cheatin' bet poachers swooping in and betting on an outcome between the event transpiring and me logging on and settling it).

Tomorrow, coming off the heels of a 24-point spanking by the Suns, the gang tries to avoid going 0-10 (0-4 since the creation of this thread, and 28.5% of the way towards a possible cash winfall for the optimistically unfaithful) in coach Don Nelson's hizzouse @ Golden State.

If they do manage to go 0-14 in their games between the creation of this thread on January 14th and the All Star Break, their actual overall NBA losing streak will be an agog-worthy 20. You wouldn't think this possible of a professional basketball team (every dog has his day, right? applies in most sports...); but honestly, my handicapping of the prospect of them achieving this feat of epic failure as a 3/1 underdog may have been a little conservative. :think

The record for the longest losing streak in the NBA is held by two lowly teams, the 1995-96 Vancouver Grizzlies and the 1997-98 Denver Nuggets, each losing 23 games in a row. The Nets are chasing history! Go, team of destiny, go! :happy

Overall NBA record so far in the 2009/2010 season: 3-40 (!!!)
Overall NBA losing streak currently: 11
Prop bet losing streak: 5

Lopez needs to demand a trade and get the hell out of Dodge. A) because he can develop into a good utility player somewhere - anywhere - else. B) because basketball aside, who the hell wants to be in Jersey, anyway?

It's hard to pin down any one thing that makes this team so terrible.

There's the lackluster play...the absence of chemistry...the void of any veteran leadership setting the pace on the floor (there are veterans who aren't leaders, like Battie - and leaders who aren't veterans, like Harris)...the dearth of any purposeful, set-driven coaching...

Above all, the team just doesn't like itself. There's too much individual play. Guys are just trying to beef up their own field goal percentages and not sharing the ball on offense, setting lazy screens if any; and on the other end you rarely see any help defense and if you do it's never aggressive. If someone goes for a board it's not to win their team a possession, it's to pad their own numbers.

The college scene hasn't really caught my attention this year, but whoever the #1 guy is, he has the dubious distinction of most likely playing in Jersey next season as they have the top draft pick locked. :yep

Ok. Question.

If I bet 250 on the 0-14 outcome I will win 750 plus my stake?

AND.

If I bet 500 on 'At least one win' I will win 250 plus my stake back?

So if I place both bets I can not lose what I have put on but can make some vcash if they do go 0-14?

Sorry but I am shit at betting and have little experience of it.

Well, let's see. At first glance you seem to have your math right.

$250 @ 3/1 would give you a total payout of $1000. That's your original stake of $250 returned plus the 300% of it - or $750 - that you won.

If you also staked $500 @ 1/2 you would net a payout of $750 - your $500 stake returned plus the 50% of it - or $250 - that you won.

So, yes, in placing both bets and risking $750 altogether your minimum (and maximum, actually) gain would be $250 ($750 winnings on the "0-14" bet minus the $500 you lost on the "at least one win" bet). You would not lose any money either way. "At least one win" would break you even as you would recoup the $250 you blew on "0-14".

It is with a heavy heart that I inform you the Los Angeles Clippers have fallen to the New Jersey Nets, 103-87 - thus snapping the loss streak. :verysad

The Clippers have been playing fairly well of late, too - dropping close decisions to Boston and Cleveland and even beating crosstown rivals the Lakers earlier this month.

Oh well. All good things must come to an end.

Fair play to you, Nets. 4-40. Crack a bottle of Korbel! :happy
