Plenty of posters picking different outcomes so why not make a poll and then bumping it after the fight? Votes are made public so we can all see what your prediction was. No after-timers saying, 'I told you so'. Make your pick now!

Khan wins a UD.

He boxes at distance, circle, in-out with 3-4 punch combos. I expect Maidana to catch him at least once, but personally think all this talk of "glass chin" is over rated. Kotelnik caught him a couple of times, Barrera caught him a good as well and took them, personally think it could be the step up in weight.

It will be interesting to see how he copes if Maidana lands, either way, barring any major problems, he wins a UD.

Khan sticks and moves as we have seen him do lately before turning it up late and getting a stoppage - speed kills

I think differently, I'm going for Khan KO, Maidana against Ortiz was lucky that Ortiz is such a pussy that he didn't want his face to be caved in, think he got the wrong sport to think about that!! I think Khan over powers him early and it gets stopped!

I'm devastated with Ortiz's progress. A couple of years ago I was convinced he was the second coming.

He's still got time to turn it round, but the lack of stomach for a fight has turned me right off him.

Khan TKO Maidana, said it a few times already.

Why did you vote for Maidana then? Don't give Gaz an excuse to dig that picture up again!

In all seriousness, the only reasoning people have for picking Maidana, IMO, is his Boxrec KO% and Khan's 'questionable' whiskers. I honeslty see no other outcome other than a Khan win in this fight and I have also been saying the same thing for ages. I wonder at times if people have actually seen Maidana fight. Khan's superior speed, footwork and newfound willingness to stick to a gameplan will completely show how limited Maidana actually is, IMO. Maidana has a puncher's chance and that's all.

I went for Khan.

Khan late imo. If Khan uses his speed well and keeps his defence tight then i think he can get a late rounds stoppage over Maidana.

But, i wouldnt be surprised to see Maidana get Khan out of there if he lands.

Maidana is the first puncher Khan will have faced since his near beheading, im looking forward to see how Khan reacts IF he gets tagged.

Really looking forward to this fight.:D

Punchers chance is all i give him as well, I haven't seen a fight were he has had to cut the ring off so I'm either going to be surprised or it will be as bad as everything else.

The biggest thing for Khan to look out for is when he hurts Maidana don't barge in like Ortiz take a step back and put him to sleep.

Really glad Khan took this fight Maidana is the perfect fighter to show he will take a puncher on.

Khan to win UD or TKO.

When Khan fought Prescott, he was wobbled and hurt then Khan started swinging when he was hurt and Prescott landed a big left and right.

Khan did get up instantly which was quite good to see but he was inexperienced and didn't stay down till an 8 count (which he should have done). He would have stabilised himself a bit more and could have held on.

The new Khan would definetly be more resiliant with better footwork, defence and improved resistance. Even if Khan goes down in this fight, I see him getting up and still winning this.

Khan outmanoeuvres and outboxes Maidana for a wide points win, in what I imagine to be a fairly uneventful fight. Khan will be waaaay too wary to get anywhere near Maidana's bombs.

Khan UD by out=boxing Maidana........i think!!

Interesting fight though. Think both of them have enough power to KO one another. Khan's speed will ensure he doesn't get caught though!!

Final thought. Khan KO or UD. Depends on Roachs' tactics!!

Maidana has a leaky defence and a poor guard and is a 2D fighter, main thing for Khan is to remain focused throughout the fight and stick to his gameplan. Khan will counter Maidana for most of the fight with fast combos, Khan has a high workrate and i feel Maidana will let take too many shots as the fight goes on and he starts losing rounds will start opening too much with wild swings and Khan will start landing more. Maidana will always have a punchers chance Khan has to be very carefull.

I'd love to see Khan totally school this Maidana chap, he seems to be getting rated very very highly on here, granted he has a scary as fook record, all his wins by KO :O but again his best opponent was probably Kotelnik and maybe Ortiz... so not destroyed a whole host of top fighters. Would love to see Khan pepper him in and out with jabs, softening him up early on before taking him out mid to late in the fight. Will this happen? Who knows. If Roach seemed reluctant for this fight....maybe we should be too, for Khans sake, I hope not... bring it on!!

How would it be a great win, well done Amir you fought a clearly limited fighter with a big punch. The only thing good this shows is that Khan is willing to fight a guy with a punch.

It will be a great win Maidana can bang beat another up and coming fighter in Ortiz pushed Kotelnik close and has banged out everyone else hes faced the guy is a puncher and a wild awkward one at that. Its an exellent fight at this stage of Khans career. Amir is constantly proving hes a real fighter and this fight will help up no end in his development.

I think he should fight Maidana next, what I meant was that dont make out as if it was a massive win for Khan after he beats him. It would be a solid win over a dangerous contender that he was expected to beat.

I already respect Khan for turning his career around after the Prescott loss and even if I didnt respect him I don't think Amir would give two shits (rightly so).

lol fair enough mate i do disagree with u though when u say it wouldnt be a massive win, i think for someone his age, so early in his career taking on maidana in his US debut is a very brave move and if he actually won as well would be a very remarkable achievement

Who knows with Khan these days - he ain't a reliable fighter, he's too unpredictable !!

IF i had to say who'd win, I'd say Khan TKO

But if Maidana connects to that chin, its good night !!

And the likely hood of Maidana landing 1 clean punch is very high.........

Keep the votes coming, fellas. Great to see a fight like this generate so much interest for different reasons:good.

If Khan wins then I don't want to hear stuff like "it was a great win for Khan". 80% of the forum expect him to win.

Styles makes fights. If people pick a certain fighter to win they usually do it based on how each fighters' styles match up. By most picking Khan to win it doesn't necessarilly mean everyone thinks Maidana is shit; it just means Khan has the tools to beat him:good.

Personally, I think that the Kotelnik win is extremely underrated. Maidana wouldn't, IMO, be Khan's best win if he were to beat him.

01-20-2010, 02:36 PM
Khans came on a ton under Roach especially his defence but having rewatched Maidana Ortiz last night i just feel like if Khan gets a little edgy under Maidanas pressure and starts throwing his combinations i can see Maidana landing a big right hand and KOing Khan i just dont see Maidana being overawed and too timid like Salita was if Khan lets his hands go Maidana will be throwing bombs back in a brawl.

burzumboy

i don'y know who'd win but i want khan to get ktfo. maidana is a shitty boxer, but has a decent chin and good power. i doubt khan would want to get close enough to try and ko maidana, so either it will be a maidana ko or a khan ud.

Khan by stoppage if he uses his skills. He is very fast and accurate and if he keeps it at range for a while i think he can cut Maidana and tire him out.He could come unstuck if he does somethng stupid but i dont think he will,Roach will have made it clear how dangerous a fight this is.

01-21-2010, 05:31 AM
Kotelnik has a respectable dig, the issue was that he couldn't connect cleanly.

Khan boxes in a different manner now compared to the way he fought Prescott. He doesn't just stand in front of his man and try and out-speed them, he moves, he counters. I don't think he'd lose to Prescott now.

everyone expects maidana to be the counterpuncher, but i see khan coming out playing the counterpuncher role himself...

first few rounds see khan waiting for maidana to throw that right hand then khan stepping in with a flurry of shots then back out again. it stays like this for the first 6-7 rounds then maidana will be very weary about throwing that right, so then khan can step it up and start moving forward against maidana. i say this because, from what i have seen, maidana just doesnt look suited to technical boxing!! he looks more like an all-out-war boxer!!! i can see him getting very frustrated and eventually losing all confidence!!! :ko

I expect Khan to use his footwork to draw Maidana onto him. Maidana is a plodder with power. He's already seen that Maidana leaves himself open and if you can draw Maidana's lead you can counter him with chopping hooks that floor him. I expect Roach to ask Khan to box to orders and take no risks. Maidana is dangerous with the right hand and although not a crisp shot he finds a home for it and it's hurtful.

I think Khan will try to work Maidana's fleshy body when he uses his raiding tactics. The jab is a huge key...keep Maidana off balance and you got him where you want him. Maidana has a punchers chance and i still don't feel Khan's at home when under pressure. I go for Khan to box his way to victory but who knows how Amir can deal with Maidana's power.

Khan early stoppage. Too fast, he won't make the same mistakes Ortiz did, Maidana will have to weather the early storm to make it interesting, which IMO he won't. He's got good powers of recovery though, I see him getting dropped a few times and stopped on his feet.

Khan by a shutout 120-108 or possibly even stop maidana late who is a bit chiiny himself. Huge gulf between the 2 in terms of all round tangibles. Speed,Footwork,Distance and timing which khan was excellent against malignaggi, overall variety of punches, roach doing great work with khan on his jab. Maidana prob shades power but khan can definetley whack and is getting stronger with each fight.

Khan by early stoppage. Maidana just isn't in the same league as Khan and Khan will figure this out early and brutalize. This fight actually reminds me alot of Lewis Vs "God Bless" Grant.

And Maidana's footwork is good? Khan will hit him so fast and easy all night that he will be gone by the time maidana throw's back.

Maidana's footwork wi no worse than Khans....Khans has fast hands, but lacks Maidanas' power, chin, killer instinct and finishing ability..this is a fight Khan wont win

Im going for a Khan UD or a late stoppage, but theres always a chance maidana could catch him then it will be lights out, but with freddie roach in the corner Khan should stay away from maidanas big shots

This is not relevant in the slightest but i had a dream last night about Khan Maidana. Obviously had boxing on the brain after last night's action.

Anyway, the fight appeared to take place in an ancient Roman amphitheatre, Khan dominated the first 2 rounds but then took a wild overhand right to the temple and went down, got back up ala Prescott fight. Maidana just needed one more shot to finish him when suddenly the whole arena started crumbling to the ground after some sort of earthquake. Strange.

So i predict Khan by natural disaster.

It would be a great win u moron, if he wins ur gona say well 80% expected him to win, yet if he loses ur the first one saying see i told u sao, once a glass jaw always a glass jaw. amir khans a glass jawed fraud bla bla bla.

who do u want khan to fight and beat before ur impressed and give him some respect?
how can it be a great win when most think maidana is average, he as faced tougher legitimate fighters at his weight than kon as ,it will be a good win because maidana is a good fighter
