Jesus Christ, what a fight this was back in 1993. Thomas "Duke" Morrison and Carlito "Truth" Williams waged war on HBO back in January of '93.. Tommy Morrison dropped Carl Williams early on in rds 1 & 3, but Morrison was unable to keep Williams down for good in the early going... Soon after, Carl Williams regrouped himself and struck back to drop Morrison 2X in round 5 and nearly had Tommy Morrison KO'd... That round (5) saw Morrison reeling and struggling to remain on his feet, but he somehow maintained his composure... Come the 9th round, Morrison sucked it up and exploded a few big left-hooks on Carl Williams' chin and body and, as "The Truth" lay upon the ropes looking to hang on, referee Mills Lane stepped in and stopped the fight with Williams dazed and confused, but on his feet... Tommy Morrison wins by 9th round TKO over Carl Williams.... The stoppage by Mills Lane was correct......... A damn good / great heavyweight fight for the ages......

I saw that fight live as well, and Truth surprised the hell out of me that night. Gil Clancy was commenting at ringside, and I basically agreed with everything he was saying about Williams. He had shown up looking better than he had in years. At one point, I really thought that Morrison was going to get taken with the way that Williams was hammering him in the 5th, and truth be told, his Carl's jab was working like trip-hammer the whole evening. In all honesty, I don't think that either men were worthy of much of a rating at the time they fought. Morrison was in between losing to Mercer and beating Foreman, while Carl had just suffered a few recent losses and was basically on the ass end of a very shaky career. If nothing else, it was a very entertaining match....

I have no clue what Williams did afterward in boxing...... I wrote off C.Williams after that 9th round TKO loss to "The Duke" on HBO....... Later on I saw where Gerry Cooney got Williams a job as a security guard, but I'm not sure how well Williams worked out at that job.......... Who knows?

Foreman-Coetzer was a boring fight. Morrison-Williams was entertaining.

Well, Bourbon comes from Kentucky and I am not into paying big dollars for booze, so I just score this cheaper stuff called 'Old Crow' for "8" bucks per 1/5.... It gets me where I wanna go at night....

Morrison is lucky he got an Old version of Carl WIlliams. I thought Williams fight with Larry Holmes could have gone either way, I remember scoring it a draw.
Williams was very good in his prime and if he had a good chin he would have won a title.

Williams was only a mere 32 / 33 yrs old when he was TKO'd by Morrison in 1993...... Williams never learned to block a left-hook, and thus, he was a sucker for that shot during his whole career........ YES! His jaw sucked too......

MR.BILL:bbb Yey but he was past his best he was no longer a contender like in his earlier years. I do agree with you on that left hook, I remember Jesse Ferguson give him a scare and dropping him a couple times. Also Mike Weaver.
But A prime Williams would have tagged Morrison more often and Probably finish him but he woul hit the canvas though.

Carl said this about the Morrison fight
SN: You almost derailed Tommy Morrison’s fight against George Foreman by knocking him down twice in the fifth round and almost out. How was he able to get off the hook?
CW: Let me tell you something. That fight was so f*cking rigged, I’m so pissed about that. It was so rigged. I had him down twice, and don’t get me wrong, he caught me too. But I had him down twice, and guess what they did? I know what they did because I know (Bob) Arum, that piece of garbage. They gave him an eight count. There was no eight count, though! The referee told us the eight count was waived, I said okay. And all of a sudden, he was getting an eight count. Now how the hell do you explain that? There was NO eight count, and he got one. Arum was looking at the Morrison-Foreman fight. They figured they could get me out of there 1-2-3, but they didn’t realize I was coming with guns. I had him, he was ready to go. They gave him an eight count and there was no eight count. Just shows you how things are. Unfortunately, I had to live through that and live a different life than I would have obviously lived had I won those fights that I felt that I deserved. Fate came and hit me in the ass. It’s unfortunate because I put so much into it, and picked myself up so well moving on and trying something else. I had one of the greatest opportunities in life just snatched out from under me like a rug. There’s no justice there. Bob Arum’s a big player.

Williams is kinda' talking out his ass to a great degree there..... He was dropped in rds 1 and 3 by Morrison, but it wasn't like Morrison was allowed to stand over Williams and just start whaling away the moment Williams' knee got off the floor.... Williams still got to fully rise and get his gloves wiped clean before Morrison was allowed to resume his attack..... Williams got additional seconds to regroup himself....
