View Full Version : Who is your current favorite active boxer and why?
My favorite now is Cotto with Pavlik as my second. I just enjoy watching these two guys desmantle their opponents. I hate fighters who rely on running to beat their opponents.
Who's yours?

Cotto. He brings it every single fight. Can't fault him for anything he does in or out of the ring... And his fighting style is a perfect combination of a patient boxer and an aggressive finisher... Hopkins, MAB and Juan Diaz are up there, too.

Does Jones still count as active?

Hopkins. I like technical fighters and I admire the fact he had to struggle to get to the top. His story is a compelling one for me.

Holyfield is still active so he's it for me. If he beats Ibragimov it's gonna be party central in my house.

Mikkel Kessler, because I like the dignified way in which he carries himself in and out of the ring. He´s also focused like few other boxers that I have seen. The next few years will show if he´s something really great, or just good - it´ll be interesting to follow.

Absolutely true. Once my man Evander retires, Kessler will assume office of being my favorite fighter. :good

1-Mayweather-sooo much skill and intelligence and beauty in what he does, his last couple of fights have been boring but before that it was pure boxing lightining. e's an immature spoiled brat, but the question wan't who do you want to have dinner with 2-Paul Williams. 3-Kelly Pavlik

Manny Pacqiuao because his relentless, aggeressive style makes it exciting.
Calzaghe. Hes from near where I grew up, is a great fighter to watch and seems like a nice guy outside the ring too.

i tend to admire all elite boxers, no matter what their style.
floyd for his freakish abilities, skill and defense.
hatton for his bulldog mentality.
pavlik for his kostya tyszu style beatdowns (well it seems that way to me sometimes).
wladimir klitschko for his awesome power, atheletic ability for a big man, skills
toney for what he has done with a small body against big fighters
there's plenty more like cotto, pacman, calzaghe, kessler etc. but i enjoy them all virtually equally. BUT to make life easier for me, if two favs fight i tend to go with the one who i like personality wise.
for example i can't stand floyd and toney with their trashtalk so if they are going against someone else i like better even if they are inferior technically-wise, i'll root against them. for example im going for hatton against floyd in their match up even though i feel floyd might have too much for ricky. but i just cannot barrack for a smartass!

I can't single out just one but I appreciate fighters who will fight anyone any time. Mosley, Pavlik, Williams, De la Hoya, Judah, Hopkins, Wright, Pacquiao, Morales, Barrera, Corrales (R.I.P.), Vasquez, both Marquez brothers, Trinidad, Vargas, Toney, Margarito. Some of these fighters I don't care for due to their attitude or work ethic (Judah, Toney), but I admire any fighter that will take on absolutely anyone and I always make it a point to watch those fighters fight whether I personally like them or not. :good
If Roy Jones Jr. beats trinidad in January 2008, he is my number one!!
B Hop en mayweather both on the second place, with a little advantage voor Bernard Hopkins!!

Suga Shane Mosley, the guy is a class act, fluid lightnin combination punching plus great accuracy plus punching power plus sturdy chin & fighting heart, Shane is still too sweet 2 handle and a thrill everytime he steps up and focus deep with the eye of the tiger. Bernard is a tremendous badass, tricky and super-intelligent, gutsy fighter too, no wonder they are best friends and with De La Hoya, Mayweather is not there yet but will be fo'sure...

Hopkins - He's the master of masters at the sweet science.
RJJ - Still can't let go of his glorious past. Hopes he finishes his career strong.

Calzaghe -
Underrated, mismanaged, avoided for much of his career and shamefully so and since his fantastic showcase over Jeff Lacy, he's finally getting the acclaim that he deserves and hopefully the career defining matches he deserves even though he's fading every year.
I hope he does us long time fans proud and wins 2-3 more big fights after the showcase he's about to put on Mikkel Kessler.

Hopkins and Mayweather.
Mayweather has all of the tools and shows up in shape every single fight. He stays fit between fights and is a model for other fighters to follow after.
Hopkins is one of the smartest fighters who ever lived. Trains hard, comes up with great strategies, has the desire to win and is willing to do anything to achieve that.
