Jose Luis Castillo Vs. Jose Luis Ramirez

A question has just been raised about Castillo's legacy. How would he fare against a countrymen & fellow Lightweight Champion with about the same stature?

I have to go with Ramirez largely due to his advantages in power and chin.

Both fighters were pretty slow (Ramirez was slower), both had solid technique (Castillo probably a little better), both had good power (Ramirez a little more) and both had good chins (Ramirez a little better).

I can't see it being any other way than toe to toe action. In a toe to toe war, Ramirez wins because of his slightly better power and chin. Castillo will probably be leading at the time by a few rounds, but I see Ramirez stopping him late in the fight, probably around the 12th or 13th round.

Castillo had one punch knockout power & that could be the difference in a wild exchange. If Ramirez could stay away from the uncontrolled exchanges, then he should be able to outpoint Castillo if not stop him late.

Castillo has heavy hands and punches hard with either of them but I don't remember him being a one-punch KO artist :think

Ramirez was more complete as a boxer than Castillo, more power and better chin, good skills and was able to trade if was necessary.

Castillo would fight putting all the pressure over Ramirez, but I think that wouldn't be enough.

One shot & Corrales was history, Power shots were what kept Johnston from completely outboxing him. Respect for Castillo's power had Mayweather on the defensive in thier first fight. Lack there of, led to Mayweathers domination in thier second fight.

But I mean Ramirez stood up to Arguello, Rosario and Chavez's bombs, I don't think he has anything to fear in brawling with Castillo. castillo has the better wins resume, ramriez has 102 wins and only like 7 were against ranked fighters/contenders. That's how badly his record is padded, castillo by far has the better resume, there is no doubt about it.

But to me, he beat Alexis Arguello, he beat Edwin Rosario both times and he won more rounds off Chavez and Whitaker than I think Castillo would have.

I think his body of work isn't inferior to Castillo's if you look beyond the record.

Have you seen the Arguello and first Rosario fights? I'll go out on a limb here and say you haven't.

I gotta go with Ramirez he was a very good fighter and just had a little more then Castillo in most departments. Has anyone seen his fight with Arguello I heard he deserved the decision, can anyone confirm this?
