David Haye, the promoter who constantly says that boxers are being “ripped off” and was going to make sure that wouldn’t happen on his shows.
This week Haye made an offer to one of the fighters I co-manage, Ryan Rhodes, to defend his European title on the undercard of his show.
As part of the negotiation process, we asked for three night’s hotel accommodation for four people, a modest meal allowance per day, and 10 tickets to the show.
This is a standard one in the industry – but the answer was a flat no – can you imagine no hotel or food? In all my years in boxing, I've never had that kind of response.
They also said that we couldn’t approve of Rhodes’ opponent.
Why would I put a fighter in against someone I’ve had no say over.
Are Hayemaker for real? What is Haye’s manager, Adam “Phoney” Booth on?
To make matters worse, Rhodes’ other manager is Dave Coldwell who is Haye’s matchmaker. Who needs enemies when you’ve got friends like those!
May be this is what Haye meant when he said he’d be doing things differently…hungry fighters.
Personally, I feel Hayemaker are in the wrong if they didn't even try and discuss the finer details, although this is only one side of the story....
Still, if they can't come up with something, then Rhodes will sadly not be boxing on the undercard.

Spice Boy Rhodes claimed years ago that he would be
"A world Champion at 3 different weights.................and thats no lie !!!! "
So according to Rhodes youthful egotistcal boasts - he should be a
Undisputed Light Middleweght Champion
Undisputed Middleweight Champion
And the Current Undisputed Super Middleweight World Champion

Frank certainly is doing a lot of complaining lately. I wonder if he's feeling a bit lost at sea now that he doesn't have a big name to promote.

Well I'm with Frank ****** on this one.
Ok - dont get me wrong - I'm not going soft - I know ****** is a childish cunt at the best of times.
But ****** does deliever for his fighters - and makes his fighters have good career / paydays
The fighter in question - David Haye - was paid a very generous Kings Ransom by Mr Frank ****** to fight his man Enzo Maccarenelli
****** delievered Haye his biggest Payday - and his biggest Show he ever fought on
****** delievered the event that made Haye a star in this country.
****** delievers as a promoter.
Haye and Booth are proving to be stingy fuckers - and are not real prepared to deliever for other fighters.
"Phoney" Booth can not deliever what ****** can.

yeah but this is basic
Hotel and Food - standard things to cover
Monte Barret complained he was not given enough "food" money to live off by the Hayemaker promotions when he fought him

No dinner money......... stingy fuckers "phoney" Booth and Haye are prepared to let their fighters go hungry

Well one of them has been promoting for 3 decades, the other hasn't even solely promoted 10 shows yet ;)
****** has much more in terms of resources than Hayemaker.

Yeah but we are talking about standard things here
Food
Hotel
Few tickets for the show for family / friends
this is a very reasonable thing to expect from a European Champion who will probaly end up as the chief support on the whole show
If Haye and Booth cannot spare a few quid to let Ryan have dinner and sleep in a hotel - they have no business calling themselves promoters.

Haye got what he deserved agaisnt Enzo. He won the legit world title in france and was known to be struggling at the weight. also the fight was in london so he was the bigger name.
the fight did not make haye huge in this country and it wasnt his biggest payday. valuev was for both.

it was his biggest payday up until that point in his career by about 6 times more than he got for knocking out Mormeck.
Haye got paid very genrously for Enzo fight.
And he was not that big a name - he had been fighting at Liesure Centres in front of a few family and friends.
Enzo had been the one fighting at massive Calzaghe undercards at the Millienium , etc
You could say Enzo was the bigger name - even if Haye was the better fighter

what the fuck has that got to do with anything ? :huh
if he cant make weight - then dont fight
just cos you struggle to make weight dosent mean you deserve to be paid more
anyone could make up that excuse - Haye exaggerated his weight struggles anyway

My feeling with Enzo vs Haye is that ****** saw Haye's supposed difficulties making weight, he saw that Enzo was performing quite well at a decent CW level (dominated Braithwaite) and decided that he'd take a punt at launching Enzo to another level.
So if ****** was being generous to Haye, he was doing it for Enzo's benefit and for long-term gain for himself.

I'm not going into drawn out details.
But just briefly, there are two sides.
What the column doesn’t tell you is that this was a one off offer. To a fighter that Hayemaker have no promotional ties to.
Hayemaker’s offer was TEN THOUSAND POUNDS MORE than what the writer of this column had offered Rhodes and yet they asked for an extra TEN THOUSAND ON TOP OF THAT.
Hayemaker had made clear that they wanted NO OPTIONS on Rhodes and this was a one off contest to get him out seeing as though there had been no other offers of dates for him.
Ryan Rhodes was free to go and box for whoever he liked after this contest.
As for the opponent, they knew who the opponents were that we were trying to line up, and in fact they were also trying someone themselves as we were co-operating on the matter until we received the response.
Also, as there are 'talks' concerning a possible world title shot, we were informed that Ryan could pull out at short notice which is understandable, but, for us to go into a show knowing we could lose a main support bout wasn't a position we could take.
Another point that isn't mentioned is that they also wanted THREE options on the opponent. Fine by us, but the the favoured opponent's management wanted no part of it.

Im not sure why people have this negative opinion of ******? For all i've seen, he's done what any good promotor would do. Builds up his young up-and-coming fighters, pads theirs records abit, then eventually when the times right, gets them a world title shot, then after all is said and done, they always seem to end up leaving him.
Why do people hate him for that? :think
I know i'd much rather be promoted by ****** than maloney.

I don't have a problem with ****** as such, he's good at what he does. I am however not a fan of his WBU/Intercontinental/Hatton/Calzaghe antics but hey he's a businessman.
His column though disgusts me when/if I read it every week. Heres someone (through his column in the biggest selling newspaper in the country) who gets a chance to tap into all the casual boxing fans, sports fan etc yet every week he usually uses it to either have a pop at fighters, promoters who he doesn't get on with, have left him etc or to build up his own fights, and the general public out there swallow his propaganda as if he were the law on boxing.

And he says things like Ricky Hatton was spotted in Burger King training for his next fight :rofl

For sure.
If a young guy was turning pro - much better to go with ****** than Booth and Haye.
****** will slot you in on his undercards - and allow you to slowly build your trade.
He will guide and manage you along nicely - while you make decent money.
He will then guide you carefully to a title fight - and make even better money.
If you really are the business and can become a superstar - you can always leave him at that point.

Apparently he hasn't had a TV deal for 8 months, so Sky must be purchasing the rights to screen his fights one at a time. I'm sure Sky will keep doing this, but another TV company could come in and offer ****** a contract (although that is unlikely).

That's what Sky should do.
Force promoters to almost tender for TV dates.
If a card isn't good enough, they have the right to knock it back or pay less money.
