I know it is a higly hypothetical question - but will something like Louis, Tyson, Ali, or even Liston, happen to the heavyweight division within the next 10 years?

It's tough to say, but I'd say the best chances for another great heavyweight lie in Wladimir Klitschko and Alexander Povetkin.

I think we will be quite surprised when the next heavyweight All Time Great emerges.

Sam Peter. End Of Thread!

Are you saying that in 30 years from now, ppl will rate Peter among the likes of Ali, Louis, Foreman, Holmes, etc...?

Alexander is probably the best bet for that type of superstar.

I love watching Sam though and he'll do just fine to entertain us until that prophetic one emerges. In 2 years time Povetkin vs Klitschko or Povetkin vs Peter would be huge fights.

my vote is for Povetkin. I have thought that since 05, not hoping on any bandwagons. Even his few critics would have to say the way he has been brought along has been impressive. Things will pick up a notch when he meets Byrd later on this month.

Povetkin may become the first Russian heavyweight champion (and by that, I mean undisputed rather than a beltholder).

Povetkin and Solis.
Sam Peter couldnt hold a candle to Povetkin at the amateurs. The African was a nobody who didnt even dare to cross Povetkin's outstandingly great shadow.

Sam Peter. End Of Thread! sam peter is most fun to watch in the hwy right now.. and povetking might be a force in the future but sam is tougher and stronger, and if he improves a little bit more he will be able to crush his opponents a la tyson.

Alexander Povetkin has the potential...but will he do it?...Only time will tell.

Povetkin has the potential to be a solid beltholder, but he is too small, his punch is not hard enough, he has no real weapon to be a real great HW.

Solis is far more a candidate. But he is a lazy Cuban and maybe wastes his talent.
To all the people who never saw solis: He is a very skilled Sam Peter.

Sam Peter. End Of Thread!

Peter and Wlad are the only guys who have the potential, and are young enough, to possibily attain this.

It remains to be seen if either will.

Maybe not NEXT big name, but I think Michael Marrone will come within 10 years if he keeps motivated. The guy is only 22 and has plenty of time to mature and season a great fighter.

Wladimir has the best chance at becoming the undisputed, as well as a major, well known sports figure,............ and I don't see anyone suprassing him while he's still of a reasonablely young age and wants to fight. He'll have to either get old, or retire before anyone else has a chance to be dominant.

But if he were to retire, I'd say Chagaev may be able to take over........possibly Povetkin, but Povetkin has to get by Byrd, first.........

I have my doubts over how well he will do at Heavyweight, but regardless of how successful he is David Haye will be VERY entertaining to watch at HW over the next few years, it would be good for the sport if an exciting fighter like him became the king at HW.

Alexei Kasbulanov: the future undisputed champion. 6"7, 35 years old, and was robbed of the Tajik amateur title due to a MINISCULE amount of steroids in his bloodstream. And cocaine. And opium. Apart from those MINISCULE substances, he's clean as a whistle and great for boxing.

You've GOT to be joking. :patsch Marrone can barely take the punch of mediocre CRUISERWEIGHTS! He is a KO waiting to happen, nothing more. :nod

From what I've seen, Eddie Chambers and Povetkin are the two that may be vying for supremacy within the next five years.

Povetkin has the potential to be a solid beltholder, but he is too small, his punch is not hard enough, he has no real weapon to be a real great HW.

Solis is far more a candidate. But he is a lazy Cuban and maybe wastes his talent.

You do realize that despite his weight Solis is smaller than Povetkin right? He weighed 210 to 215 in the amateurs, he put on 40 to 45 pounds in about four months, that isn't muscle it is fat. That said I think that Chagaev, Dimitrenko, Klitschko, Povetkin and Solis have the best chance for a lasting impact on the division.

All this talk of Sam Peter is getting old. He has not shown the power or chin he was once touted as having, not even close, and he is technically limited. Chagaev and Povetkin have knocked out and dominated better opposition, and I don't even need to talk about Klitschko in that regard.

Solis might be more like Sam Peter than people realize, he has some nice KO's but Sidon, McGee and Bates have all been stopped multiple times so we need to wait and see how good his power is. I am sure he has a punch, but he isn't the destroyer people are making him out to be.

Dimitrenko is a question mark. He is young at 25 and very clearly a late bloomer. Time will tell how he will develop, but that first step begins with his fight against Hoffmann, who, for all those Peter scrotum swingers, is better than McCline.

Peter- hes very exciting to watch, and throws alot of big bombs.
Povetkin- Is pretty young and talented as well, I look for him to make a big splash in the coming years.
