Boxrec lists this fight as 15 rounds. As far as I know the last 15 rounder was fought years before this, around the time Simon Brown knocked out Tyrone Trice in the 14th in 88'.
It took place in Park Plaza Hotel, Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States. Anyone have any idea what happened here?

Wasnt Buck Smith the guy who rode a horse into his fight once?

I think th story is that Harold Brazier wanted to fight a fifteen round fight before that distance was done away with entirely, and approached Smith, who fought on the same circuit, to see if he was interested in something like that. He was, and the rest, as they say, was history.

You beat me to the punch on this one. That thing had something like 200,000 miles on it...
Hadn't thought of him in a long time so I checked out his boxrec and... he's still fighting at 44... at cruiserweight.... and getting KO'd a lot.

Poor sod! Call it a day man!
I suppose it beats working in a factory or somesuch shit however.:-(
Can only hope he's in better shape than Kirkland Laing (whom he once ko'd)

15 rounders were still going until the mid 90s. Pazienza/Sherry (1991) and Anthony Boyle/Chuck Strum in 1993 were scheduled 15 rounders, and there was at least one even later than that, that I believe went the distance.*
*Jose Flores WS15 Eric Holland in June 1997 to win the WBB Middleweight crown. Seems like a lot of work for little reward to me.

LOL, classic Laing, he schooled Smith for six rounds, then... boom!!!
Bang goes Laing's potential world title shot.

Could two fighters still, potentially, agree to 15 rounds and fight?

Apparently Laing was stoned for that fight.:patsch
And then you look at Laings spititual opposite Carl Froch. Little talent but loads of heart.
Just to show that boxings mental/strength of character side is just as important.
Great left hook by Smith though.:D
Musn't take anything away from him. He earned it.

If a commission sanctions it, sure. It would be good gimmick match for two vets to perhaps boost a local crowd in the right area.
It worked to a point with 20 rounders, which went on until the early 70's.
Now that could be interesting, if two of the right fighters were to agree to fight over a proper old school distance!

I was up there, the rumour was Duff had lined up the Honeyghan/Breland winner to fight Laing...

I wonder if most boxers even know such a thing is possible. Maybe we should have someone write a article on the front page of ESB, maybe have someone who does interviews with boxers (On The Ropes) mention it. Better to plant the seed then do nothing I suppose.
Who the fuck was fighting in 20 rounders in the early 70's anyway? :yikes

Brian Kelly stopped Alonzo Harris in the 10th round of a scheduled 20 rounder on June 1, 1971.

I think there's nothing to stop fighters fighting 15- or 20-rounders or whatever they want in certain states of the USA.
Does Oklahoma even have a "boxing commision" ?

Tyson KO1 Carl "The Tructh" Williams in '89 was scheduled for 15. BoxRec has it listed as 12 but I think they are wrong.
