View Full Version : Most dramatic stare-downs of all-time?

List some of the best pre-fight stare-downs of all-time?

One that jumps to mind is the intense stare-down before Golota-Lewis, which unfortunately, was not a sign of things to come.

But so intense was the stare-down, that even the commentators made mention of it.

What are some others? And did the fight live up to the stare-down?

I also loved the staredown for Tito vs Vargas where Vargas comes up in Tito's face and trys to give him that tough guy staredown of his (which looks ridculous) and Tito just stares right back at him like "I know you don't think that shit is scaring me"

I don't think Rampage's staredown is too scary. I'm much more impressed by guys like Hearns who always seemed confident or even Tyson, who was usually pacing about like he could barely contain himself.

Hagler always seemed confident too, and reports say Duran's eyes were pretty scary from up close.

Wlad has a crazy staredown. His face has such a eerie sense of cockiness and confidence its scary. Almost like he knows something the other guy doesn't and doesnt' have a worry in the world.

why do you all think it intimidated him again? It was one line so how could that one line throw off an antire fight plan or make jones second guess himself. Why couldn't Jones simply have brushed it off? or did Jones say himself that it got to him?

also, anyone have that one tyson staredown .gif where eyes eyes rove from side to side?

Trinidad/Vargas.

While Vargas was being introduced he was doing some dumbass skip while staying in the same place. When they are given there instructions Vargas looks away to get a drink and gets right back into Tito's face. Tito then says in Spanish "This is the good stuff.. Are you ready for the good stuff!?"

30 seconds later Tito lands a huge left hook that will forever change Fernando's career :)

Sonny Liston was the master of the staredown, Foreman tried to imitate it early in his career.

Yeah always remember a Brian London story:

Liston was in Britain promoting something and was doing autographs at a table, when London's manager offered London £250 to go to the table and challenge Liston:

So London walked up to the table smashed his fist down on the table and the table gave way... Liston stood up and stared at London, and London admitted he shit himself so much:

"It nearly was not worth the £250!"

I love Wladimirs staredown. Its not so much of a staredown as just him having this completely focused, cold expression in his eyes. He just looks at the guy, super calm, barely blinks, no emotion whatsoever. Its like a Terminator. Its like "I am Wladimir Model K-1000, advanced pugilist combat model, I will destroy you, I feel no emotion, my sole purpose is your destruction". That to mean is way better than when guys try to put some disturbed expression on their face and wind up looking like a rapist staring at drunken 16 year girl.

The fights where Tyson didnīt bother to stare back - that was awesome!

Mike Tyson looking away, because Evander Holyfield had his number. Mike Tyson tried to stare at Evander Holyfield for afew seconds but looked away.

But Mike Tyson had a different kind of look, not a bad ass look, but a cold hearted stare down in this fight.

Valuev seems like a too nice a guy to scare people, yea he's huge but he seems passive, it looks as though he let up in the Barrett fight because he was afraid to hurt him, Wlad on the other hand looks as though he really is trying to inflict a lot of damage on his opponent, that's why he kept going for Brewesters bad eye in that last fight...

Greg Haugen-Vinnie Pazienza I. Relax everyone, neither guy is among the elite, but it was one hell of a staredown. Staredowns are kind of silly, and dosen't determine who's a real badass.
