As Jones v Jeff attracted some comments.
Does anyone think Hopkins could be competitive against big Jeff?

Yeah, I do think it would be competitive, and probably very horrible for B-Hop.

Early on Hopkins would have his moments but the longer the bout lasts the worse for him.

In the end I just think Jeffries is too big and strong

I think Jeffries ruins Hopkins with body shots.

I think it would be a safe bet to pick Jim to win.

Why would people necesarily think that Jones had a better chance than Hopkins?
McGrain

Because he's much more mobile, much harder to impact with any punches, with the extraordinary athleticism often neccessary to avoid a juggernaut like Jeffries.

While I agree with that, I still don't think Jones would do much better than Hopkins. Both would get stopped over 15.

Yes but those are exactly the things that will get worn down as the fight progreses.
Hopkins would still be sliping and blocking when he was counted out.

Jones liked to be in control, but there's no evidence of his ever flagging or anything like it. The point is, technical excellence and good feet probably aren't as likely to save Hopkins as supernatural reactions and athleticism are to save Jones. The fact that Hopkins has a better chin is pretty much irrelevant given who is in the other corner.

I think stylistically Hopkins is DOA here, and Jones has no bottle to mix it, nor the chin to last.
If you want to pick a middle that could give Jeffries the most trouble, it would be James Toney. Toney was a slick counter puncher, and had an excellent chin. I don't think Toney would win, but he could make it interesting vs quite a few heavies.

toney is a better answer than hopkins i agree as i see him taking many punches on the arms, gloves and just being worn down. i pick jones to win because of his athleticism and mobility. he is gonna be hit sure but i wouldnt be surprised if he picked off nearly all the punches and rolled off the ones that did land. something hopkins isnt gifted enough to do i dont think.
