Thank fuck common sense seems to be prevailing. Hopefully this means some other fights at 140 first or a return to 135 for Dinamita. Also, I think that this would be best for Khan as well. Hopefully now he'll fight a genuine LWW in his next fight.

Beristain had this to say:

"Khan is very strong and it's not a good fight right now because he's not fully recovered from the Mayweather fight, which was just brutal. "I think it's better to get another opponent. He should not be exploited again. Juan Manuel deserves to retire like a true champion and not as someone's stepping stone."

got a feeling this fight was never going to happen. it makes khan look good that he was prepared to fight Marquez.

now he can fight Mallignaggi or Nate Campbell.

Maidana is the easiest fight for Khan at 140. I often question if his new band of 'fans' have actually seen him fight.

No way... JMM ducking Khan... :rofl

Not really. This is just Beristain's opinion on why JMM shouldn't take the fight at this point in time. The fight has also not been signed after being negotiated for weeks now. Maybe it was never as serious a proposition as everyone assumed? Equally, the delay could just be a hiccup in negotiations.

IMO, GBP should make JMM-Katsidis next and then decide what to do. JMM is far from finished and he'll prove it yet again, IMO.

Won't a Katsidis-JMM fight be more damaging for Marquez?

JMM will make sure this happens now, perhaps it was reverse psychology to make sure Amir takes it. lol

I dont think the fight with PBF took much out of JMM, (the Juan Diaz fight was tougher on him imo)

Although extremely exciting to watch, Katsidis is wide-open and, IMO, would be a good comeback fight for JMM. Kats also doesn't possess huge amounts of power and relies on accumulation and relentlessness to wear his opponents down.

When I think about a possible Khan-JMM fight, I see a really shit mix of styles. Khan is a huge LWW and JMM's optimum weight is 135, IMO. I'd fully expect Khan to stay on the outside for the distance using his superior reach, height and speed to notch-up rounds on the end of his jab whilst hardly engaging; basically just a carbon copy of the Kotelnik fight. On the other hand, JMM would have to abandon his effective counter-punching to press the fight and this would play into Khan's hands.

Head to head JMM is unquestionably the better fighter. That said, stylistically, I think a fight with Khan wouldn't be the next best move for JMM. If JMM wants to campaign at 140, I say why not take on Bradley or the winner of Urango-Alexander?

I agree if JMM does not fight Khan he should fight Valero , i think JMM would expose Valero's style. As for JMM not fighting Khan its the right move, Khan is just too big for him and even i would not like a warrior like JMM be used as a steping stone. JMM should stay at 135 thats where he belongs and would be most effective.

Marquez, Diaz, Katsidis, Funeka, Valero any of the those 5 against each other its going to be a quality fight.

To roll it out for the 9000th time, 'styles make fights' . Hatton Katsidis would be an all out slugfest we assume. Wheras put either of them against Khan and it would probably go the way of the Hit & run blueprint that roach has made for Khan

Why is a slugfest any better than a fight in which one fighter boxes intelligently, and possibly more skillfully?

Irrelevent of whether it's 'better', It's just what people consider more entertaining, casual boxing fans especially. I was once getting a friend into boxing and was going through Mayweather's bouts and he said "Are there any decent mayweather fights or are they all boring'

As to why, I don't know really as I'm not a psychologist.

Yeah, the options are pretty limited for Khan as everyone is booked up.

That is unless they agree to co-promote with Dibella for Mallignaggi. He could possibly fight Kendal Holt on May15th. He's fighting on the 27th of this month, assuming he wins that should be enough time.

Failing that they might have to start looking at Lightweights.. or dare i say it.. Welterweights

Khan is due to return to the wildcard in 3 weeks to begin training so that could fit in.

This entire argument about , why is Katsidis good enough for Hatton but not for Khan. For me personally, I'd like Hatton to fight Katsidis because I think Hatton would win and it would be good to watch, and one for him to retire on whilst giving the fans a fight in Manchester.

Katsidis can punch, but I just don't think he is world class. Against Khan who IMO is an 'Okay' fighter with world class speed, I think he'd lose badly.

It was only 5 fights ago or so that Graham Earl fought Katsidis, and Katsidis did win, but went down in the process. Khan dispatched Earl in under a minute I believe.

Earl dropped Katsidis as Katsidis was looking to finish and countered him..really just a flash knockdown..wasn't hurt just careless and Earl landed a sweet shot.

Reason Khan blitzed Earl is a lot to do with Katsidis...Earl was shot to pieces when he fought Khan and Khan has the ability to explode from first bell. The Earl that fought Katsidis had a bit left in tank and they went to war and i think that war was one to many for Earl and never was same again. Katsidis has improved a fair bit since.

He is a good fighter certainly, but TBH I don't see anyone (apart from possibly Bradley) who could beat Khan on points at light-welter IMO. So I feel that Malignaggi would not have much of a chance.

Kosaros, I really don't see how things like that can be said about Khan. Because he's fought no real opposition other than a Euro level Kotelnik. All we do know is that he has good speed with potential. Until he fights more at a high level we certainly can't say statements like that

Perhaps, but he'd be the best boxer Khan has faced yet. I don't think he should be written off as an opponent, regardless of whether he is likely to lose, especially on Khan's American debut. I'd be pretty content with Khan facing any top 10 light welter tbh.

Apart from Khan getting caught on the chin and going down, I dont see many fighters out pointing him. The guys handspeed is a blurr, Khan is yet to lose even a round under Roach. Khan is a great fencer, he uses his reach and speed to great effect.

And why not? Can I not say that fighters like Rigondeaux or Lara won't be world champions 'because they have not fought a world class opponent'? With Khan's super fast hands and stamina he is incredibly difficult to beat on points unless you knock him down a couple of times.

Personally, I think Malignaggi is one of the hardest fights out there for Khan. Stylistically, how would Khan fare against a slickster like Malignaggi? I honestly think Malignaggi and Bradley are the two best fighters in the division and if Khan wants to be considered the best in the division, he has to beat at least one of them. Plenty of good fights out there for him anyway, IMO.

As for JMM, I hope he goes back to 135 as he can still rule that division for many years to come, IMO. Valero is made for him.

Yes we are yet to see Khan vs real world class fighters that is true. Under Roach i think Khan is learning to control his speed and use it at the right times. Its called timing, Khan needs to improve his timing, once he has started doing that, we will see good things happen.
