Musicians who've dabbled in the boxing world

A while ago I did a thread about boxers who've made forays into the music world. How about the other way round ? Musicians who put on the gloves at one time or other. The legendary Ska/Reggae great Prince Buster was quite handy in the ring before he made it big in music. Also former Jazz musician,and founder of Tamla Motown Berry Gordy used to box in Detroit gyms,and even had one or two fights as a pro. He used to spar with Jackie Wilson,Soul legend. Who can think of any more ?

Miles' pianist in the 1950's, Red Garland, fought Sugar Ray Robinson, though I don't know under what name.

I never realised the Godfather of Funk used to box. he certainly had some Ali like moves on stage ! In light of this i've decided to mess around with some of his song titles - Get Up Off Of That RING.....It's a CHAMP'S....ChAMP'S World.. Night Train-ing ! :good

True. James Brown and Jackie Wilson both boxed. This is where they both men learned a lot of their fancy footwork. Berry Gordy (if this counts) was also a boxer for a brief period of time.
