I would keep him away from the top 6 and the other 3 for at least another 12 months.
Edit: Also, Cleverly should not be rated above Campillo at all.

Its a shame clinton woods is not still around, he would make ideal opponent is fairness. I think cleverly is being rushed in honesty, he should have won the lonsdale belt whilst finishing his degree and then make an assault on the top 10, The only champ who i believe he would beat no doubt is shumenov.

I do think he could beat Cloud. Tarver would be a very nice scalp for him. Get that fight on in Wales. Tarver would sell the fight big time and its winnable because Tarver is done. Would be a bit like Barerra vs Khan.

only Murat and maybe Diaconu
Cleverly , Diaconu, Murat should be not rated
Campillo, Garay and Erdei going back to 175.

He would get his arse handed to him against any of those. Seriously who has he beaten any where near world class. He beat a soft Italian at the weekend who has never looked European class. Clev is a great prospect but not anywhere near contender status yet. He needs some good fights against European standard opponents.

Like i said i would leave hopkins, pascal, dawson and johnson alone, the others are all tough fights. I am a fan of cleverly, but he shouldn't be mixing at this level just yet.

It must be luck, the fact I have heard about his education since his early days. If the fucker doesn't get a 1st class honours then he will have under achieved after the billing he gets. I hear more about his course than I do about his boxing record.
I reckon sky are trying to bill him as a perfect role model and a clean cut kid. One whiff of a scandal when he becomes world champ and the kid will be fucked by the press just like tiger woods.

He doesn't need to step it up yet.
He doesn't need to be rushed.
Finish his degree in the summer then a big fight in November when he's boxing full time.

Now why would he do that when he can study for his Masters and carry on with boxing part-time as an hobby?

I'd favour the Top 6 to beat him. Diaconu as well probably.

Perhaps he's not good enough to do an MA. He could end up getting a 2:2 or something. Plus, he could do that part time, and be a full time boxer. I don't really see why he'd want to do it the other way around.

I've not seen much of Vyacheslav Uzelkov so cant comment.
Of the rest, he beats none of them.

why would you keep him away from Cloud?
To me cloud is nothing but a crude banger, he is Jeff Lacy 2. Clev has the perfect style for him.

Why ain't Campillo in there?!?!?!?!?
Maybe Diaconu, who is as bog-standard aggressive as they come.

Cloud is fairly fast though, and do you really thibk Clev can do better than Woods, who was fair more experienced and proven?
I don't think he can, he's also far too hittable himself, and Woods was equipped with an ATG British chin, something we don't know whether Clev posseses yet.

Nah, he's better than just a 'crude banger' IMO - he has a decent jab and has a very high workrate (I think he threw over 1,000 punches against Woods).
Cleverly is just not ready for him yet, or any of the other elite light-heavies IMO.

Cloud ????? ....no no no no no no !!! :nono .... clev needs to tighten up that defence before getting in with this guy ... IMO Clouds a future p4p contender ... (just an opinion) ! :good

Dont rate Dianconu one bit.....I think Clev can handle him as well as Pascal did as long as he doesnt get caught trading with him....his boxing ability would take him to a decision in that fight....
Murat would be a hard fight for him....50-50 that one.
No idea who the Ukrainian is but I feel the rest beat him at this stage.....Cleverly is still 18 months away from a world title shot IMO

I missed the Clev fight (was doing Godfather duties).
I take it he looked good, what with the proliferation of spastic threads on the subject (not this one btw).

Diaconu maybe. Can't comment on Murat or Uzelkov. The rest beat him at the moment. Tbh he doesn't deserve to be ranked in the top 10 yet and needs to step up his comp before he starts taking on the best in the division. Campillo and probably even Shumenov should be ranked above him.

Probably one of the biggest clev fans going ( first saw him when he fought on the Calzaghe - Hopkins undercard ) and tbh until he can commit to boxing completely he should stay at euro level. Give him a year or two with some euro level fighters then step it up against contenders then get a fight with Shumenov or Campillo. Honestly think he could take Beibut now if im honest but would be pressured into fighting other world class fighters who would tear him a new one

But, in reality it was me up on the altar, renouncing the devil and getting pissed afterwards.

For me Clev takes to many shots and Cloud would eat him up within 8, not ready for Cloud imo.
I agree with Brummy Lad Woods would of been ideal.

This is how it goes -
Priest: Do you renounce the Devil?
D-MAC (as well as God Mamma and parents): I do.
Priest: And all his evil deeds?
D-MAC: Yeah, okay.
Priest: And all his false promises?
D-MAC: Shut the fuck up already with this shit. The big man downstairs aint never promised me shit, and if you've got a problem with him (D-MAC pokes the priest in the chest at this point) then thats your own personal beef. I've had my fingers crossed behind my back the whole time (D-MAC shows priest left hand with crossed fingers), so what I said doesn't hold. If there's one fucker I don't wanna get on the wrong side of, its the Devil (several male relatives of Mum and Dad approach D-MAC with menacing looks on their faces).

Let's not rush the kid, he's had 18 fights and already has British, Commonwealth and European titles - he's well ahead of schedule.
I know ****** is one for holding fighters back, but Cleverly needs to defend his European belt a couple of times to get a little bit more ringsmart before moving onto the world scene.
He's got plenty of time.

I agree, he's not ready for the experience and class of Hopkins/Dawson/Johnson. Noway near ready, Brancalion to those guys...you can't underestimate that gap. Frank won't thats for sure.
I think he'd be okay with Uzelkov, Diaconu and Murat, given a few more fights to mature. I think he could beat Murat hands down already. A lot depends on his chin though, not been tested.
Pascal and Cloud are a step up from that, I think he needs a progression to that level.
The rest are well in the future.

02-15-2010, 07:20 PM
The likes of Murat and Diacanu he could beat right now. I'm not a big fan of Cloud and Pascal (who look like they're swimming when throwing punches) i think a more mature Cleverly would deal with them especially Cloud, but maybe he's just a bit too green to face them at the moment.
I was a bit unsure of Cleverly at the start but he's grown on me as he seems to be improving, his actual all round skill set is still a little bit lacking. But he has speed, he can counter very well especially of the slip, he's seems comfortable on the backfoot as well as being the aggressor, I think he needs to learn how to fight on the inside much better, with his frame and T-Rex arms that might be his achilles heel as he moves up in comp. would also like to see him with a wee bit more head movement before coming in and the transition back to defence after a combination.
They shouldn't be overly protective, i get the feeling with ****** he might be in danger of staying and becoming stale at this level, defend the European title just one or two times then make that step.
Smith

Most of you are going to get a shock with Cloud, I truly believe that. He's going to find another element soon. Cleverly should be kept away from him at all costs.
