Skysports riding the balls of fighters. Man! it makes you wanna throw up at times how sickeningly over the top their commentary is,remember the Mayweather vs Marquez fight? oh my god how hard where they riding Mayweather balls,i mean seriously :-(
I watched Miguel Vasquez beat Prescott before Mitchell beat him and i was like, okay good to decent performance by Vasquez but nothing great, Mitchell beats him and its as though he just executed a Mayweather/Gatti type performance, Mitchell did a good job dont get me wrong but man do these guys know how to go over the top.
What about Cleverly's latest fight? he did a good job but he was not particularly impressive to me,he showed a poor defence in my opinion and it was a so so performance compared to his his other performances, yet Sky were making out he performed superbly or some shit.
I dont want to sound like im taking away from Mitchell,Cleverly's performances because they both did a good job and respect to them but Skysports commentators jeez!!!!

Dude I muted Mayweather/Marquez after round 2. It was almost making me feel ill physically listening to them jack off to Mayweather beating an overmatched opponent.
I hear you. I think they believe its in their job description to go overboard with all the adjectives.
As GazOC said the other day, you really do notice how wank they are when you listen to an American broadcast. Be it Showtime or even HBO who are a little more prone to hyperbole they mostly just commentate on the actual fight.

I've recently got the Benn v McClellan fight with American commentary and its really good .. Ferdie Pacheco and Steve Albert, i think it was a Showtime show, i thought they were spot on .... British commentators go way over the top, they try and add excitement but its usually always bullshit .. I remember some Ian Darke commentaries were he was just making weird noises when a punch landed, these noises were usually 'WOAHHHH' or 'OOOOOOO LOOK AT THAT, WOULD YOU LOOK AT THIS WOOOOOO' ....
The most annoying commentaries are when British commentators commentate on British fighters and Duke Mckenzie and John Rawlings are the worst, the brit guy will throw a 5 punch combination, 'obviously' missing 4 of the shots but Mckenzie and Rawlings will compare it to something Sugar Ray Leonard would have done in his heyday .. Total bullshit

have you watched a HBO fight recently?? there terrible.
i really think you lot are giving sky a hard time. Setanta were no different. Buncey has his favourites and never says a bad thing about them.
also did you not here sky commentating on Haye, there number 1 fighter with Hatton out of the picture??

On Setanta I told you when I was polishing a turd - a turd can still be in a great fight and being in a great fight on a great night does not make you a great fighter.
Adios.

I think if you spend a lot of time on ESB it becomes shocking to hear PBF not be constantly ridiculed

anyone heard antonio tarver on amercian t.v. (can't remember which network). He is precise, articulate, excellent to listen to.
Over here we focus too much on odds. The commentators do see the flaws in a fight, but there is no-one who can analyse them in a second like for example teddy atlas, and put it into technical terms.

I don't think your a great commentator Steve, but as a pundit your excellent. I'm so bored with the sky panel. The interactivity of your show made it fun and good viewing.... You wonder how sky can continually be so short sighted with regards to boxing.... Do they have the same problem with tennis, rugby etc

I think Sky's coverage of rugby and cricket is excellent.
The coverage of boxing is probably the weakest of any sport they do cover.

To be totally honest i dont rate any of the sky team, there all dire useless wankers. Nicky piper being the worst with jim watt a second. Setanta had woodhall and rawling who worked quite well imo. My favourite combination would be wee barry and rawling. As much as i love buncy the guy is inept when it comes to picking winners, barry breaks a fight down and usually gets it right. Watt showed his skills when i got the haye fight all wrong.

Does anyone remember the setanta commentary of Rees vs Kotelnik, Woodhall and Rawlings had it even coming into the 12th.
Buncey on Captain Huck, talked him up to be the new Gatti. Never mentioned that the opponents Abraham and Huck were fighting were complete crap.

I agree, Tarver is excellent. He's a natural broadcaster.

Im surprised at the responses as i thought i was on my own on this one, just shows how poor they really are.
Agree about Watt,Watt must be the worst commentator of all time,he is akin to an old record player that you keep using because your too tight to by a CD player one that your keeping for sentimental value.
What pisses me off most about Watt is the way he bemoans a point over and over and over your, its like alright Jim we get it stop repeating the same point again and again arrghh!!
Oh and Darkey............Khan he took the shot,Khan! took the shot lol

i see what you mean about the sky team/commentry,
to the boxing purists it's very annoying,,,,me included.
but...they feel they have to do this to try and make the sport more market-able to new fans of the sport?-it seems like this is what they are doing.
at a time when boxing is having it's least t.v coverage- i think it's put-up or shut-up for us for the time being.

They should bring Woodhall in. I don't mind having a slightly idiotic commentator who has a great voice for commentating like Darke, provided he has someone making insightful and calm additions alongside him. Woodhall would do that well.
Then have as your pundits a range of people. Oliver is decent enough, Froch would definitely be pretty good everynow and again, Bunce is always good value and perhaps me.:deal

Agree.
I think Woodhall's voice is a little underwhelming and maybe he does not bring the same excitement but he is one of the few Boxing pundits that knows what he is talking about,he actually gives his fighters good instructions in the corner instead of being a cheerleader and sending them out with a pat on the back and a come on!
Woodhall knows how to break down a fight because he understands the mechanics of Boxing, thats why he is a good cornerman a good trainer & commentator.
Spencer Oliver is good to imo.

Most of the Sky pundits are appalling, riding the home fighters dick all the time, sickening, really, they need a clear out.
