I was just looking at boxrec and saw that Nikolai Valuev fought 4 or 5 fights in QLD and Sydney during the late 90's. Did anybody go to these fights?

Is there any other world champions (current or past) from other countries that fought here early in their careers against our guys?

I remember him decapitating Sinclair Babb on the KT v Chaves u/card. I dunno if you could find that KO on the net, but it's well worth a look. Babb is probably still concussed. Wayne "Big Truck" Braithwaite fought in Australia a few times earlier on.

yeah Wayne fought for the WBB cruiserweight title at STar CIty in '99

LMAO at WBB, what a shite title

The title meant nothing, but it was a good win against Adam Watt early on in his career.

Many great fighters have fought in Australia at some time or another. Tommy Burns, Jack Johnson, Joe Frazier, Archie Moore, Peter Jackson, Jimmy Ellis, Eddie McGoorty off the top of my head. Definitely plenty more.

What happened to Wayne? He was touted as the next big thing at cruiser and then just died in the arse?

Didnt know Smokin' Joe fought here - thanks champ :good

LMAO. In the words of Rockys son "If a big giant man wanted to beat me up, I'd be real scared". A jab from Valuev would be like a sledgehammer.

Like a lot of Guyanian fighters banker, he had a natural ability to fight but never really learnt how to box.
He was stuck in no mans land, he was to small for cruiser but to big for light heavy and once the limit went to 200 he was even more out of his depth.

I was not suprised he lost the Mormeck, but it was disapointing to see him lose to Jones, though it was a bit of a harsh stoppage.

He fought the WBO champ, Enzo, not long ago. I thought he would either KO him early or get ko'd late but it ended up going to rounds, not sure how it panned out.

He can still forge a bit of a career at cruiser but I doubt he is getting a title again.

The bet was that Dawson would beat Geale, there is no loss on the Rock's record.

But if you have an avatar for me of a really gorgeous bird with a nice set of breasts, legs and arse...Ill take my medicine.

Most of the cruisers are fucking crap IMO. Braith looked like shit against Jones, who was pretty abismal himself. Put it this way, none of these guys are going to be making the p4p lists any time soon!

Adamek is good actually, I was still classing him as a light heavy. The rest are pretty poor. Its the weakest division above lightweight IMO.

I actually like the Cruisers. I think it's a fairly competitive division. Jean-Marc Mormeck, who has never been in a bad fight and has partly unified the division faces David Haye. Haye is a pretty exciting fighter IMO. Add to that that the winner is likely to face Enzo Maccarinelli and that's enough to get my interest. Throw in Steve Cunningham, undefeated Marco Huck, Darnell "Ding-a-ling man" Wilson, and the 2 poles Adamek and Wlodarczyk and I don't think the division is too bad actually.

I don't rate Mormeck at all, and Bell is sloppy. Considering these guys are some of the top in the division, it doesn't really do a lot for me. Mormeck is constantly putting his head down, gasses easily and won't throw in combinations. I find it frustrating to watch personally, but each to their own. I haven't seen very much of David Haye, and with Adamek up there now it may be improving. Ding a Ling is to be perfectly honest no world beater.

He certainly gasses easy, but he's a beast. Always coming forward. Haye is one to watch. I actually think he's got the potential to be a Heavyweight champion. I actually think Tomasz can only have so many fights left in him. Getting on the juice catches up, so do wars with Briggs.
