bump :D
Quigg's disposed of another usually durable journeyman. The guy he beat tonight has been the distance with world class bantams Cermeno and Malinga.
Title shot next hopefully :happy

It was the #1 ranked Featherweight contender by the EBU(an undeserving position for Merdov to hold imo), so it shows Lukin must have some ability about him despite his record.
The original post also mentions Kostin has never been stopped, he has(although only once) by Damaen Kelly in a round.
Quigg is a very talented fighter and a great prospect, I don't think it'll be long before he's ready for the best at British and European title level.

It was a legit knockdown by Vilani (big left hook). But the report I read says that Quigg finished the round strongly, so I don't think he was affected too much by it.

Ah now lads, it was on Sky......who here wasn't taking in their full weekly dose of Friday Fight Night
Legit knockdown, the Italian landed a good left hook and the force of it put Quigg on his arse but he wasn't hurt and certainly wasn't in any trouble. He came back strongly in that round alright and put in a very impressive performance. He's actually a very different fighter now and tucks up much better than he did back then(when he was a little open).
But I wouldn't have any concerns about his chin from that incident.

Just saw in todays MEN that Quigg is being lined up for the WBA international title against an unnamed opponent in September. He should also be in line for a shot at the british title and is ranked number 3 in europe.

That knock down was very very dodgey. Even the commentators remarked on how it wasnt even a clean shot. I didn't see the glvoes make contact at all. It was actually pathetic looking.

Basic analysis.
Quigg looks like he has a decent defence (easier to tell when he steps up in class) moves his head and feet well. He got caught by a decent shot in the second and Allione went after him throwing punches in bundles but Scott made him miss every single shot.
Scott doesn't counter enough for me, he can make a fighter miss nicely but he doesn't seem to counter at all and he doesn't cover up the body great either. I think this might cause him some problems when he faces a good pressure fighter who will try and sit in the hole and throws punches in bundles.
Throws a decent combo, has good timing and is good at following a game plan.
That KO is dodgy as fuck, the Argie goes down like he's bin shot and once they finish the 10 count he get's up and a minute later he is waving to the crowd completely fine. But what I don't get is if this was a bet scam why didn't he go down after one of those more hurtful punches from Quigg, he landed far better punches then that :huh

Argie obviously been paid off. Maybe by people in the UK but prob by people in Argentina - to go down in that round.

Probably but I don't get why he went down from that shot, Quigg landed better shots before that but even those weren't exactly concussive.
If you're going to do a scam like that why not just let the fighter smash you in the face full force and no one will question it and you can take you're money, no need to take the piss like this. I hope he doesn't get his money that was a farce.
The only redeeming light was that before that he posed a different challenge to Quigg and I'm sure he got some decent experience from those first two and a half rounds.

Dunno, maybe paniced realizing he had to go down in the round. God knows.

or maybe the Argie just had enough and wanted out of there its better to go down then just give up and say im out.
Whatever happened Scott is looking very good at the moment. He's not rushing anything, and is fundamentally pretty sound. He's only young so he's going to get much stronger and more powerful as well as developing his game.
Mr Bellew could actually have a look at Quigg at the moment. Quiggy barely threw a power punch in the first round. It's that sort of patience and discipline to work the openings you need as a fighter.

You seen the discipline Quigg has in the Gavin Reid fight as well. Although Sky never screened the entire fight, by all accounts Quigg was boxing pretty much on the back foot before the 9th round. Then in the corner, Hughes tells him to go forward. Quigg does that, and gets the stoppage.

I like Quigg. He picks his spots well. I'm always concerned when i see a fighter who moves his feet a lot but still has a stationary head though, which seems to be the case with Scott and he does fight a bit jittery. It's gonna be fun watching his progress. Hopefully he'll get a British title shot soon. Good entrance aswell.
Btw i think people are being harsh on the Argentine. It didn't look much, but if you look closely there's a top of the head equilibrium shot that hits him as he's coming in, then another one as he's going down. Some of you are just too cynical, LOL!
BS Quigg didn't even turn his hand over on that shot. Quigg must have the single greatest slap we've ever known if that KO'd the guy. A guy that did 4 rounds with Jorge Solis, not a big big puncher but decent and a world class fighter? Smells fishy.
Also the way he fell down on his belly...
So contrived.

09-26-2010, 05:49 PM
I don't know. I'm just gonna give him the benefit of the doubt. Those type of shots however soft looking, when landed on the right spot can do funny things to your system. I've seen it many times before.
He probabily could've got up though, but wanted out.

Quigg is a beast! He seems to have everything. In 2 years time he could be a handfull for most at world level.
He's really good. Can't fault a lot he does, but the problem is going to be stepping up from European level to world level in this division. Suddenly he'll fight guys that have power and punch back and its going to be a bit of a shock to him.

Thats why he needs to fight somebody like Martinez before he makes the jump upto World level.
