I know most boxing fans would still consider Floyd Jr. to be in his prime. If so... he is in prime for a very long time... As far as I know he came into the pros peaking in prime and won his first WBC from the division champ in his 18th fight defeating his opponent as if he was a veteran in a one-sided performance...

Judging from his recent outings... which is less dominate...
Did he move too far up in weight or is he slipping?

Too far in weight. Thats about all it is. His prime is hard to pinpoint, at least the start point.

no i think he left his prime at super feather/lightweight

If Hatton beat him it will be obvious Floyd wasn't in his prime anymore.
Oscar technically retired him already.

It is a valid question, he has been considered prime for a very long time.

No. He will prime out on Cinco de Mayo, 2008.
Against Cotto?

Against Cotto?

Glass jawwed low blowing Cotto would have less of a chance than Hatton in upset. Hatton is actually quickier on his feet. Cotto plods. If Chop chop can hurt Cotto you know Floyd could. Cotto got smacked around by a inaccurate puncher of torres... Cotto will lose his ass against Floyd. Bob is trying to setup the potential match now but talking s**t to floyd now. He wouldn't say a word until recently. So we would get to see the fight i believe.

Yes he is. He's what 30 or 31? That's still an age where a boxer has not lost anything physically and where the mental aspect of your game becomes more refined.

The real question is, if he beats Hatton as expected and fights Cotton and beats him also and perhaps beats Mosley (he might want to wait a little longer for Mosley's talents to deteriorate a bit more), where does that rank him in terms of the ATG lists? And what if he retires undefeated?

He's past his prime weight of 130 or even 135.

Cotto and Hatton are both serious opponents to Floyd, but I have heavily favored PBF against them. Funny thing is how you start talking about Bob talking sh!t about your favorite fighter, and in the same post you're trashtalking a true champion in Miguel Cotto.
Both Cotto and Hatton poses threats to PBF and we all know it.

I agree.

Any decline in speed you see or power is due to him moving up in weight. He is still in his physical prime, and the more he matures the better he gets mentally.

But not as much in the lower weight classes...I think Floyd is getting past his prime...I don't think he will be getting any better...

are you saying Hatton is bigger threat then cotto?
To Floyd, I think so.

Style wise.. Hatton is quickier and have a higher chance landing something big.

Cotto's only threat is the left hook. You can't beat mayweather with ONE PUNCH...

They are both serious threats I agree but I can't imagine them being as vegas faves.

Still physically fine BUT not at his best weight. Plus he is now in his 30s so there will be a decline even if it isn't that visible.

Yea, he moved up a bit too much.. All the additional muscle and weight have slowed him down a bit. The speed in the Jerry Cooper fight ( Which was a HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE mismatch ) was incredible, his jab was like a shotgun.

Yea he maybe a little high in weight but he's still in his prime. He hasn't been in any punishing fights and he has a Hopkin's like work ethic and obsession to take care of himself physically so I think he should stay in his prime for quite a while.

He is. Would outbox any of the current top 10 welterweights yet would unlikely be able to seriously hurt, let alone kayo, any of them. It's a question of weight.

I wonder if the quickstep lessons will improve his footwork in any way. Quite the workout for the fast-twitch muscles. :dance

When the way he boxes and how little he gets hit, combined with his physical conditioning I would say he is still in his prime. He is not as his prime weight though. If Floyd would go back to 140 though (and he could) then we could really see him perform at the top of his game.

Floyd is on the down side imo. Floyd's prime was riddled with hand problems. His max weight should be 140. I believe he was in his prime at 25, four years after winning his first title.

No doubt Floyd should settle at 140 where his power is still somewhat feared.... If he is indeed slipping then he is still doing really good fighting against gamed opponents at 147-154.

The weight has made him lose his prime.

Until 140 he was in his prime.

We'll see against Hatton and in the v. top fighters. If he can handle his charges and counter him with speed and accuracy then we'll know.

Ridiculous. Perhaps his peak because he was fighting smaller fighters, but he is still physically in his prime and hasn't slowed down a bit. Calling someone past their prime bacause of their weight class doesn't do it for me.

No way, he's defiantely past it. Floyd's over the hill and way past his optimal weight. If he can some how pull off the upset by beating a younger, stronger, focused p4p fighter in the form of Hatton while doing a reality show when he's supposed to be training, then that would be one of the greasest feats ever accomplished by a fighter. He would definately be top 10 atg if that happened.

Yea I think Floyd is realizing it is a big mistake joining this dance contest... He is competing with guys who have down time and is actually pretty good. He had 4 days to do the "quick feet" which I thought was not good.... and he is literally spending all of his time promoting and learning new dance steps.... If he loses from under train... it will be his own fault.

 Wow, I have to laugh, I was gonna respond, but you went from out of line to insane and laughable within a couple sentences.

I was being sarcastic. Honestly though, physically he's no longer in his prime. He's still pretty close though. I think he's a smarter fighter than he was when he was younger, and untilizes his stengths more often. He should be able to handle Hatton, but the dancing does worry me.

What a load of shit in here:rofl :rofl :rofl

Funny, PBF fans swear he's God, the GOAT, better than SRR, SRL, etc. but he's past prime at age 30 with less than 40 fights:huh :huh :huh By those standards DLH was what "medieval aged"???

Just setting up the excuses for losing:yep :yep :yep

Excuses wont help...........

IMO, Cotto by KO, Williams by OVERWHELMING Decision.

Hope Hatton beats them 2 it:good

He's about to be 31, so physically he's no longer in his prime. However, he hasn't been taken much punishment and he keeps himself in tremendous shape. As a result, his age really hasn't had much negative effect on his ablility to perform in the ring. Even at 31 he's still plenty good enough to beat Cotto. Wiliams has no business fighting at 147, that fight could be trouble.

The level of coordination and form required to dance that routine of quickstep certainly won't hurt his footwork once he steps in the ring with Hatton.

i think he is in his prime, but he is not fighting at a weight where he is at his best to show his prime off!

That is the very reason why I think Floyd will stop hatton a few thread ago! However if he really tries to win the dancing contest. It will definitely hurt his training.

At 140 he definitely have power and he continued to build his power to fight a 154lber. Stopping Hatton is a strong possibility.

It has been proven time and time again that you can beat anyone with the right one punch.

Ricky has some chance. Miguel has more. Neither on has very much chance.

Floyd is still prime.
