View Full Version : Hatton's next fight to be in Britain

In my opinion this is almost a certainty.
HBO's contract with Hatton has now expired and it's rumoured HBO will offer Hatton a new three fight deal for 10million(not sure if pounds or dollars). Obviously Hatton will have plenty of other offers as well.
Ricky has stated he would like his next fight to be in Britain and with his new increased barginning power he will probably get his way.So what does this mean? Firstly, Mayweather has now stated he wants to fight Hatton. Will Mayweather come to Britain to fight him? Highly unlikely I would say.
Oscar has said he WOULD be happy to fight Hatton in Britain so this is a possiblity, although I just have a hunch that Oscar won't be Hatton's NEXT opponent, but maybe somewhere down the line instead.
Malignaggi also wants Hatton, but would he be prepared to travel? Maybe, maybe not. I'm not sure.
Hatton hates Witter so unlikely he'd want to give him a career high payday, although if Harris beats Witter for the WBC this is another possiblity, although Harris has also pissed Hatton off by pulling out of an arranged fight before Hatton fought Zoo.
My bet would be Malignaggi in Britain, followed by Floyd in the States

Where did he get his bargoning power from? If the moneys right he'd fight on the moon.

You don't understand the sort of man Hatton is. He's already very wealthy and is set to become even more so. His contract is up and he will go with whoever offers him what he wants, and apparently that includes a deal where his next fight is in the UK for his home fans. If he has to accept half a mil less to get it, I think he will

LOL. Hatton wouldn't want to disappoint him, he wouldn't want to miss out on this superfight.

Oh I see!! Please make yourself clear in future:lol:
Hatton is red hot at the moment with everyone queueing up to fight him. Most of them are bigger names than Paulie so if he really wants Hatton it won't be very clever of him to insist on it being in New York. Hatton will simply accept a different offer

Exactly. You are Hatton, being offered and linked to fights with Mayweather, De La Hoya, Cotto, Mosley...and Malignaggi comes out, criticises your record and career, says you're crap and will hand you a hiding (but only in New York). Someone who hasn't beaten anyone, but whose claim to fame is not being KOd by Cotto.
Junior Witter has tried this route. Hatton won't fight little insignificant bitches just because they have big mouths and keep offering him out. At least when he does it to Mayweather, he has 43 wins and 32 KOs to back him up, with wins over Phillips, Tszyu and Castillo.

Funny I was going to make the Magic Man - Switch Hitter Witter, link in an earlier post but my digits got tired.
I agree they are both adopting the same tactic, Top 5 fighters (at best) calling out the top of the weight class. Both big talkers, with nothing to offer yet feel a divine right to face Hatton and give him a beat down.
2 years time it will be Junior who? Paulie who? (which is sure easier than Maglinaggi - or whatever :?)
Said it in an earlier post, both are riding his coat-tails.

Why doesn't this reasoning apply to Margarito calling out Mayweather? Or Hatton calling out Mayweather?

I remember, it was 2 years ago yesterday. Floyd Mayweather was going to fight Arturro Gatti and the 140 lb division was a mess. There were 4 really big fighters there and they just weren't fighting each other. It was an exciting time to be a fight fan, with Cotto, Harris, Mayweather, and Hatton all in the same weight class. The clashes were inevitable.
But they weren't inevitable. It's been two years. Harris has proved himself to be probably outclassed by the other three, but the other three STILL HAVEN'T FOUGHT. Now they all occupy different weight divisions, and what I thought was going to be awesome 2 years ago turned into a huge disappointment.
Instead, Cotto faces Zab Judah who lost to Baldomir and Mayweather. Mayweather faces an old De La Hoya. Hatton faces a seemingly over the hill former lightweight champion. All three of these guys have been disappointing. I wanted them to fight each other TWO YEARS ago. I'm sick of trying to decide which fighter is better by just GUESSING. We wouldn't have this whole "blah blah you are a nuthugger whoever fan blah blah my guy is better" if boxers would just FIGHT EACH OTHER.

if he's fighting in Britain it should be against Witter. No one else will do. Then he can take on Mayweather in Vegas

It should be Witter, especially if he beats Vivian Harris and it should be on ITV. It should be a UK superfight.

Two things-
1) Hatton hates Witter and won't want to give him a big payday
2) Witter doesn't fight harris till Sept so you can guess yourself when Witter would be ready to fight again. In view of Ricky's much improved performance following a shorter than usual layoff do you really think that's a good idea?

Floyd isnt going to the UK and that fight is the biggest fight in terms of LEGACY that might be possible, so Hatton may very well have his next fight in Vegas and would be a FOOL to let location stop such an event as long as the $$$$$$ offer is fair.
Malignaggi?? Respect PM, but he's IN NO POSITION to call shots!!! He wants Hatton?? Have a nice trip to the UK:good
Maligianni doesnt have a right to say where a fight between him and Hatton would be held, Hatton is the daddy not him! He isnt even the next highest ranked champion at 140.
If Hattons fights in Britain next he might aswel fight Witter (presuming he gets past Harris that is.)

If he fights PBF i'd bet it will be in britain...it would surely make both guys the most money and PBF knows it.

Why doesn't this reasoning apply to Margarito calling out Mayweather? Or Hatton calling out Mayweather?
Because Hatton has two monumental wins on his record, and has proved himself a world class fighter.
Even if you think Mayweather will hand him his ass on a plate as he did to De la Hoya, beat him without breaking sweat as he did to Oscar (which I happen to), you can't argue that Ricky Hatton hasn't earnt his chance.
And let's be honest, Mayweather will earn a lot of respect for being the first, and possibly only fighter to have beaten Hatton, if he fights and wins. And another fantastic name on his career record, if he's chasing ATG status.
Malignaggi calling out Hatton is not the same. Hatton is an elite calling out to an arrogant, attention seeking retired elite for the match we all want. Malignaggi is trying to boost his own profile trying to tag on to Hatton's success when he doesn't deserve to share the same ring with him yet. He hasn't proved himself, and turned up to the Cotto fight happy not to get KOd. He's still proud about it now. He turned up to a fight he knew he'd never win because he's not good enough, happy not to get annihilated. What kind of chump after that calls out and slates Hatton who's beaten two world champion legends and is the de facto undisputed 140lb king?

Just found this quote from Ricky's father in yesterdays Sunday Mirror
Ray Hatton, says his son will end up facing Mayweather (tentative for Nov. 10 in Las Vegas), with an announcement expected in early August.
"It looks to me like the Floyd Mayweather ([Only registered and activated users can see links]***********.com/?m=show&id=9318#) fight can be made - and that is one that Ricky really wants. I expect we will make some type of announcement by the start of August, but right now Ricky needs a break," the elder Hatton said.

Paulie demanding MSG makes a lot of sense to me - he doesn't want to fight Hatton yet, and at this stage in his career, it's better for him to build up his name, so he doesn't need to fight in New York to draw. He already has 2 pretty decent fights basically lined up if he wants them, and they should help his exposure some - Salita (who's also a DiBella guy) and Ngodjo (who's his mandatory). The first fight will probably be a small PPV and the second will get picked up by someone. After that, he'll have a bit more of a name, and might be able to venture out of New York. In the meantime, that's the only place he'll really draw, and since Hatton travels well, if he was to fight Paulie, the overall pot would be much bigger at MSG than if the fight was in the UK.
Still, I'd be much happier if this fight doesn't get made. Hatton would butcher Paulie.
