Two questions:

1 - Who are some of the young guns coming through that I should keep an eye on?

2 - Do any of these "hot prospects" have any realistic possibility of toppling the current title holder in their weight category, based on potential and the whole "styles make fights" argument?

I love watching Georgie fight, but does he have that many years left in the game? He's 32 already.

A young 32?

Does anyone think Amir Sadollah is a good prospect? Seems to have a good stand-up game and is excellent off his back.:think

Cain is past prospect status.

What about JDS? Is he outside the prospect bracket or does he need one or two more big wins?

Id say hes a legitmate contender at this point with dominant wins over Werdum and Cro Cop along with quick KOs over Struve and Yvel. From the others listed id say Jones and Amir are still prospects. George is probablly right in the middle since the win over Joe Daddy was dominant but hes more high level gatekeeper but only loses to the toughest guys.

Nah, he'll still be a top 6 or 7 WW, who got whipped by one of the P4P best fighters in the world.

he is ok off his back not excellent by any means and his stand up doesnt impress me much, the first time he fought a good striker he was badly knocked out, his last two fights have been against tomato cans as the ufc is taking care off him because he was TUF winner, they need to make the show look legit and not have its winners doing shit

james toney

The only reason James Toney is a gatekeeper is because he cant fit through it anymore

In the UFC good fighters tend not to stay prospects for long, and a guy can go from prospect to contender in a few fights.

I'd say that fighters like Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos are already contenders, with top ten rankings and some decent wins under their belts.

The UFC also tends to make prospects fight each other early on, rather than feeding them a steady diet of journeymen before giving them a title shot or a title eliminator - see Evan Dunham vs. Efrain Escudero, or the upcoming Phil Davis vs. Alexander Gustafsson fight.

But some guys I think could make waves in the future:

Evan Dunham (155lbs, 28 years old, 10-0)
Rory MacDonald (170lbs, 20 years old, 10-0)
Phil Davis (205lbs, 25 years old, 5-0)
Jon Jones (205lbs, 22 years old, 9-1)
Todd Duffee (260lbs, 24 years old, 6-0)

Honourable mentions: John Hathaway, Alexander Gustafsson, Johny Hendricks, Efrain Escudero.

I don't think there are any red-hot middleweight prospects at the moment.

It's also important to remember that the UFC signs the fighters it thinks have the most potential from smaller promotions, so new prospects are joining all the time.
