on the site where boxing is the scene.
barrera says if he does not get a pacquaio rematch he will retire because there is no point of him fighting on.

i don't see that anywhere on their site
Great. I think he should retire. He doesnt take Pac at this point.
Its time for Barrera to live the good life.
Its time for Pac to fight the young guns.

its under the 'top headlines'
Pac should fight Marquez - that's the top fight now. Both, imo, won convincingly vs Barrera. those stories have been told.

well he really wants to prove something...
Yea, he is a fighters fighter and has never backed down from anyone. Pac is in his prime now, Barrera passed his a long, long time ago.
Give me Pac vs Marquez, Soto, Guzman, and Valero.

Pacquiao doesn't need a Barrera fight no more, the latter is obviously far out from his prime he could easily beaten by Pac. But IMO this fight should happen, Pac should give Marco to prove himself before he retires. I'm sure a lot of boxing fans still looks forward for this rematch.
Pacman can now fight another shot legend and his nut-huggers will go crazy.
at the very, very least, that's a bit harsh about Pac's win over Barrera. that was a genuine shock, and he climbed out of his natural weight class(es) to take that one.

Pac beat a prime MAB (who was coming off victories against Hamed, Morales, Johnny Tapia and Kevin Kelly) and drew with a prime JMM. I don't see how he fought a couple of "shot legends" there...
Two other things to keep in mind: 1) he's beat numerous top-rate contenders in multiple divisions, and 2) the guy started his career at 106 pounds and is now the best 130 pounder on the planet!
Pretty good stuff right there. In his last few fights, Pacquiao has done nothing but fight a shot Morales, Solis who had a padded record, and a natural 122 fighter in Larios. I don't give a shit if Pacman started his career at 106, he was a teenager at the time.

OK, but who's done more over the past 3-4 years then? And PLEASE don't say Mayweather! You could argue Winky Wright, but that's it...Since 2003, it's a tossup between Wright and Pacquiao.
Since 2004, Winky is the clear choice.
doublesuited
06-26-2007, 12:14 PM
Winky's 2004 was great with the victories over Mosley, but that was at 154 (Mosley is a natural WW) and keep in mind that he's only fought twice a year frmo 2003-2006, and only ONCE this year (his upcoming fight with Hopkins). Another thing - he hasn't had a KO since 2002! And his victories over Trinidad and Quartey look good on paper but those guys are well past their prime - now he's taking on Hopkins who is well past it and only beat Tarver b/c he's so fucking shot it's not even funny...
Say what you will about Manny's oposition - he's had 12 fights (including his upcoming bout with Soto) since the begining of '03 compared to Winky's 9 (including the Hopkins bout). His record since '03 is 9-1-1 with 8 KOs, compared to Winky's record of 7-0-1 with NO KOs. Manny's also been involved in several fight of the year candidates, Winky has been in NONE. Manny's next fight is against a young, tough as hell, naturally bigger man - in his prime! You cannot say the same for Winky...
Now, please tell me (WITH FACTS) how you think Winky's resume is superior. We're factoring in knockouts now? I thought this was boxing? As long as Winky Wright beat his opponents convincingly, then there's no argument. It isn't a matter of being able to knock your opponents out or how exciting the fights are. If that were the case then Gatti would be in the Top 10.
You can argue that Quartey and Tito were past their primes, but what does that say about Morales? At least Tito was coming off of a brutal stoppage of Mayorga and Quartey was coming off of a very controversial loss over Forrest. Morales on the other hand got thoroughly outboxed by Raheem and so it's not like Pacquiao's victory was that great.
When Wright is facing former champions like Quartey, Pacquiao is facing journeymen like Velazquez.

06-26-2007, 12:22 PM
When Wright was sitting on his ass complaining about money and thinking more like a promoter than a fighter - Manny was taking' "stay busy" fights in between big bouts. I like it when fighters fight - they can't take on A+ fighters everytime, but as long as they stay busy in between big bouts I'm happy. Winky has turned into the typical HBO house fighter. I still have him as #2 on my p4p lits over Mayweather, and if he beats Hopkins convincingly I'll put him at #1, but I just think Manny has done more for the sport across the world over the past few years...You like it when fighters fight and I like it when fighters try to fight the best opponents out there.
Pacquiao has clearly not done this ever since signing the Larios fight. One easy fight, alright. Three easy fights in a row in such a loaded division? Pacquiao's overrated.
doublesuited
06-26-2007, 12:41 PM
Yeah, I meant "easy" relatively speaking with such a loaded weight class.
Soto's a good matchup for Pacquiao and a very credible opponent.

This promotional strategy would work better if he called a press conference and started thrashing around on the ground kicking his feet and screaming "gimme gimme gimme! thirty foot ring or i'm going to take my ball and go home! my brother can beat up your brother! i could be mayor of mexico city just by snapping my fingers. you've got a smelly face!". this is a good point in his career for a little self-reinvention. drop the face and assassin and just go by "the baby". :nod

Considering Larios & Pac were both top dogs of 122 at the same time, if Larios is a natural 122lb then so is Pac. Considering he only climbed to 126 to chase MAB and only climbed to 130 to chase Morales, Larios climed to 130 to chase Pac and cos he was weight drained at 122, both are equally the same size.
As for the thread, Pac can always use MAB as a tuneup.

Please give Marco Antonio Barrera another chance PacMan!! I want to see you destroy him!!! I still dislike Barrera for mouthing off to Juarez AFTER their 2nd fight ended. That was totally classless and cowardly since all Barrera did during the 2nd fight was dance around like a queer!!
He put a clinic on Juarez, who is such a slow starter, its ridduculous. Juarez is a joke, I used to follow him and hope that he won a title, but since the Soto fight he has been mediocre at best.

I know Barrera is a legend and all, but whats in it for Pac fighting Barrera who recently lost to JMM?
Sure I know we all can agree that Barrera is entitled to a title fight, just like Morales was, but he should get a win under him first, to really put ANY mystique behind the Pac - Barrera II fight.

06-26-2007, 05:25 PM
Why should Pac fight MAB at this point? It will give the pac haters something to feast upon.
Actually, Pac should just take the 10 mil fight on MAB's home turf and kick his ass again once and for all. Then we'll get to sit around the campfire and talk about how Pac couldn't beat a prime MAB without a forest fire.
MAB would be a good tuneup against a Guzman or Marquez or Soto. Its funny how 'double suited' outs Pacquiao for fighting old people or Hector Velasquez when Marquez has fought the terdsaks and salidos of the world
Only way Barrera beats Pacman is if he fights in his usual bitch style, and hit pacman when he's down, throw an intentional headbutt, or throw a sucker punch after the bell.
PAcman/barrera wouldn't be so bad after all, it would be fun to watch him get slaughtered.

He wants to get KO'd in his last fight?
Guys stop playing this game that Barrera is a bum. He's not in his peak anymore but he can still fight with the best (MAB vs. JMM was close you guys forgot??)
But I see where this is heading "PAC koed him because he was a Bum anyway" or
"I can't believe a shot Barrera tooled PAC"
Barrera is my favorite active fighter and Im saying right now, he doesnt beat Pac.
So yea, to answer your question, if and when he loses to Pac, Im not going to give Pac a ton of credit cause its a waste of time for his career at this point. I would rather him fight the young fighters (Guzman, Soto, and Valero) or fight Marquez.

At this stage in his career, I have said (if Valero is willing to take the fight), that Barrera should fight him. He would probably pick up a title belt defeating a young, powerful champion with all KOs.
I think Barrera should stay away from Pacman, but the man is a real fighter and tough as nails, so I'm sure he thinks he would do better in the rematch and beat Pacman.

Barrera is no longer in his prime but he still has enough to beat Guzman, Soto or Valero, these fighters are not in the level of JMM or Pacquaio yet.:yep
I would love to see Barrera go out on a winning note by getting the title of Guzman or Valero but he's not up to it now. All MAB wanted is one more big payday which he can't get against anybody else, not even JMM. :-(

Chill dude. MAB is not a bitch, he is just being true to himself. He wanted the biggest money fight he can get before getting out of the scene. The JMM and Pacquiao fight have almost the same degree of difficulty for him. It's just that the Pac fight will give him the bigger paycheck. :yep

Fuck I hope Barrera has enough cash by now. Doesnt seem like one of those fighters who burns it.
I never said he wasn't a great fighter. Being a great fighter doesn't change the fact that he's dirty, and he acts like a bitch when he's losing, so I have no respect for that.
Well I have to grant you that he did do some dirty shit against Pac when things were going wrong.
He made a fool out of Hamed though, and I will allways love him for that. (off topic, I know).

a mab fight makes sense for pac because it's a lot of money and relatively low risk. IMO, pac will have a harder time against jmm, guzman and even soto than against mab.
but if you ask me if pac's stock will rise after he beats mab again, then i'd say no. but the thought of being the one to retire mab is just too juicy to pass up.

actually its better if pac fought these dangerous fighters now that he's still peaking, he will be able to handle them easier NOW than LATER when he took his time taking fights that he get criticised for...besides if MAB PAC dont happen now, it will eventually happen when both have no one else to fight and it will still generate good money:bbb

i think it's now or never for pac and mab because he's getting old. people still care about barrera today but they won't if he starts losing to lesser competition. i'd say take mab out now. then take on guzman, while waiting for jmm-soto, winner meets winner then all will be happy

i think it's now or never for pac and mab because he's getting old. people still care about barrera today but they won't if he starts losing to lesser competition. i'd say take mab out now. then take on guzman, while waiting for jmm-soto, winner meets winner then all will be happy
i kinda like barrera to stay a bit more, i think he can still take on some of the young ones and manage a win...fighting pac now will end it:hey i see your point though, better to see him fight with a chance than none:thumbsup
