this fights result would not have been so debated if it had of been fought over a 15 round limit. chavez would of sparked taylor in the later championship rounds. i go with a 14th round ko for chavez like ray leonard with hearns 15 rounds earlier
I think the american commentators and journalists were terible biast towrads taylor. no way was he winng every round. a lot of his punches were landing on the glove. chavez was getting the better shots through. It was a close fight
I scored the fight 115-114 for tayllor (if he had of got to the finishing line.)

I think had it been allowed to continue Taylor would've won by at least 3 points on my card even with the KD, he was definitely winning the rounds by outlanding Chavez, but the fight was closer than the scores suggested. It would've ended the very next round in a 15 rounder, in the 13th, then again, Taylor probably would've paced himself a bit more and known what to expect out of a 15 rounder, so we can't say for sure what would've happened.
well he was outlanding him in the later rounds but chavez was throwing the more effective blows. I dont think taylor would last 15 rounds. I had it 7 rounds to 4 prior to the stoppage, the american judges and commentators were biased towards taylor for sure.

True but then Taylor and Chavez MAY have fought a more conservative fight. Who knows.

Chavez was comming on strong anyway, I fancy he would of been a more comfortable favourite if it had been over 15 rounds, and we would still be ranting and raving about LaMotta/DauthuilleII as most epic finish in boxing history.

Chavez would have stopped Taylor no later than 14 rounds, he was coming on strong.

If it was a 15 rounder, Chavez definitely would have stopped him, possibly in the very next round. That's one of the reasons why I don't really consider Taylor better than Chavez, and don't care too much that the fight was stopped. I think all these big fights should be 15 anyhow. That's the true test of a champion.
But as for the decision, if one was to be had, there is no way Taylor should lose if it had gone the distance. He was ahead by far in that fight. Chavez had some solid rounds from 8-12, but Taylor had clearly won every round up to then, and one could legitimately argue that Taylor had won most every round of the fight, including the rounds in which he was taking punishing blows. Late in the fight Chavez was doing damage but Taylor was still scoring the points in far greater numbers. It was just a matter of whether Chavez could eventually land enough effective blows to break him. It didn't look like it was going to happen, either, until it did.

When I saw that fight, the night it happened, I couldn't hear the HBO commentary, but I was the only Chavez supporter in a crowded and noisy bar. My scoring had Chavez ahead going into the last round, and I thought that the KD sealed it for him. Then, of course, the fight was stopped. Sometime later I saw the fight again and heard the commentary and thought it was a different fight than the one I'd seen. I've watched the fight in slo-motion several times and, seen that way, Chavez won easily. In my opinion, of course.
Had the fight been scheduled for 15 Chavez quite possibly would have killed Taylor.

If referee Steele hadn't been so shockingly inept in stopping the fight it would have been Chavez ko 13 Taylor.

It still would have been stopped in the final seconds of the 12th.

There would be no controversy after Steele rightfully stops it before the end of the 12th. :good

Taylor may of got more seriously hurt than he already was. I have no issue with the stoppage myself because Taylor was not safe in there.
You're right about the fact that Taylor dominating Chavez is a huge misconception, he'd throw combinations of his shoe shine punches and hit Chavez 4-5 times 'pat pat pat pat but every time Chavez hit Taylor it was like a truck thump thump
