Both at their primes, who takes it? Tex or The Boss?:bbb

Hipp was probably a little better technically. Both tough guys.

Tex really seemed to regress after the Shavers fight in August 1980. Even though he outlasted Shavers he seemed to lose a little snap on his punch. I think the pre-Shavers Cobb would probably batter Hipp into a mid-round TKO. The later Cobb would be a toss-up I believe.

Not sure to be honest.

The beating Hipp absorbed from Morrison before going down was fucking unbelievable.

Cooper gave it to him even worse but he refused to go down. Hipp's eyes swelled as bad as any fighters whos ever lived, that fight showcased it graphically.

Yep, Seldon did the same thing to him. You basically had to beat his face in to stop him.

Hipp, on his best night may have been able to outslick Cobb, but even George Chuvalo could probably outbox Cobb.

Agreed this pretty evenly matched Cobb has the better chin, but Hipp has the better skils(although his defense wasnt that good either). Cobb didnt hit hard enough to ko Hipp. Hipp wins a very close decision here. Would be very exciting.

You rarely get a chance to say THAT!

Yep, I think Hipp would edge this one. He would bag in the rounds; this is a fight that is definitely going the distance.

It would be entertaining, if crude. Both were great guys with great hearts.

I think Tex was stronger, and he did have a heavy jab at his best. Except for a peaking Holmes, Cobb was a handful for anybody to deal with. Dokes and Norton had to settle for SDs, and Douglas a majority decision. Hipp was not in their class as a boxer. I believe Randy would be the one coming forward here. The Boss was too tough for the arm punching Cobb to stop, but the decision would be unanimous in Tex's favor.

I've already voted for Cobb, but I think its possible that Hipp could have taken a close decision.. He sure as hell isn't stopping Tex though. There are few guys who I think could have done that, and Joe is not in any of their leagues. Apparently journeyman Dee Colier managed to do it once, but I don't know the full circumstances of that bout, and frankly wouldn't be surprised of Cobb had spent the entire night before partying prior to the match.. Cobb basically took a horrific one-sided beating from a semi-prime Holmes, and everything that Shavers had to offer as well. Hipp was tough, but he could certainly be battered to submission by a relentless attacker....

Close fight, but I think a prime Tex has the slight edge...
