Not sure why that guy kept getting any hype at all, he was always way to small to be a legit heavyweight, and never fought good with top guys, but to lose to Kali Meehan on short notice.
Ouch.. :patsch

Yeah, he was also TKOed in 4 rounds by Hasim Rahman.

Thats nothing to be ashamed of. Rahman has good power. Not that Meehan is a great fighter, but its better than being TKOed by Zuri Lawrence
he was also tko'd in one round by danny williams. though, in his defense, he's never had a good trainer (come to think of it, I don't think he's ever trained fulltime) or a promoter that gives a shit about him

You right about meehan never training fulltime or having any real backing by sponsors etc..
His job is as a garbo man with boxing being another way for him to support his large family..
Not a bad rugby league player either. Was playing semi pro a few months before the brewster bout..
Good win for him.Hope he got a decent paycheck especially for taking it on such late notice.

Meehan has been responsible for two big things in the heavyweight division lately. Showing what kind of fighter Lamon Brewster really is, and helping the huggers to overrate Hasim Rahman all over again when he was never that good ever.

I agree with you 100% but shit hasbeen rahman was like a wild pitbull when the night he fought meehan..
That was his career best performance..He was in good shape and started banging straight from the opening bell.
Hasbeen is one weird boxer..Obviously has some ability but shit he is up and down.(most times down).

Yeah, he looked awesome in that fight, but sadly, he almost never fights that way. He's a lazy lazy fighter, who takes too much time off in fights, and almost never fights to his potential, and is a bit chinny on top of all that.
When people used to say Vitali was scared of him, I had to laugh.

I dont get why most heavyweights these days are so lazy..
I go to the gym 4 times a week, also run early in the morning and generally eat healthy. All for the sake of staying fit..
You get these elite boxers getting offered millions of dollars and the best facilities provided and they still cant be fucked getting into proper fighting shape(peter, toney, rahman and mcbride).
I just dont get it...How can you have a gut when you are getting paid millions to train for a upcoming world title bout.
Just dont get it..

Meehan must have been working on his boxing and power over the last couple years.
Maybe he's gained enough to be competitive. He certainly showed he had something against Brewster, then the Rahman loss kind of took the wind out of Meehan's sail.
Good to see him back with a pretty good win. TOS is no bum, and a win over him is something that should earn Meehan a bit of clout, like a televised fight with someone top 15, or so.
Maybe Meehan can get a fight with Peter next, after McCline beats Peter. YEAH!!!!!!!

He didn't do anything to hurt his cause in the title picture by winning tonight. Maybe Chagaev can fight him as a voluntary. They were considering Michael Moorer so it's not like it would be out of the question to see Meehan wind up getting a title shot.

This nicely sums up how shit the division is. A guy who dropped Wlad and had him in trouble gets done by fucking Meehan.
Likewise Meehan did well against Brewster who himself beat Wlad but Meehan has been starched by Danny "Mr Kipling Cakes" Williams, and battered by several other fighters.
Oh and then we have Sam Peter who dropped Wlad three times and he has just been put all over the shop by McCline another run of the mill fighter who Wlad battered.
The division is truly the worst it has been since Jack Johnson won the world title, only Wlad is worth a damn thing and he would have been fucked up in any of the other eras due to freezing the second he gets hit.

Its a good win for Meehan, but he was clearly losing the fight and was in danger of going out himself, Williamson had Meehan in trouble in the 3rd, 5th & 6th, cut him under the left eye and had the eye closing.
What happened was at the bell to end round 6, both fighters threw overhand rights, Meehan's got there first and hit TOS on the top of the head, dropping him. TOS beat the count an made it back to this corner where the referee was allowing him to continue.
About 30 seconds into the rest period between the 6-7 rounds, the doctor ordered the fight stopped because he was concerned about where Meehan's punch landed. Meehan TKO6 win...

This is boxing and things change, and fighter's performances VARY from year to year as is expected......They also improve and regress as time goes by...........as is expected.

I've always thought Meehan had a glass chin. I think I still believe that. He made Brewster look terrible the same way The White Wolf made him look terrible, and neither Meehan nor The White Wolf is very good.
Of course, Brewster gets a boost because of the WK KO, after getting the shit kicked out of him for several rounds but showing heart to take out an exhausted Klit.
That fight caused a big fucking headache in the HW division. It took several years to see what Brewster was about, and Meehan, Rahman, SL and eventually Briggs were able prop themselves up really based on one unfortunate turn of events.
I'm ready for new blood blood to emerge.

No you are the fucking idiot. The division is shit. The only variation here is which one of the crap fighters outside of Wlad is going to put in a crap peformance next.
All the guys hyped as being a good heavy like Peters stink in comparison to the fighters of the past. They are one dimensional and that dimension is not even a good one.
It is nothing to do with losing, if they had any ability and were beating each other or going back and forth competeng like an Ali, Foreman, Frazier mix then fine. But these are (excluding Wlad) a bunch of also rans. Guys who have been around for years doing nothing much and then a few guys who have come from nowhere with padded records...
So we have about 6 Eastern European fighters hyped and then they all show their true worth in god awful world title fights and then we have the also rans like Briggs winning a world title as an old man, and guys like fucking Meehan and not so long ago Larry Donald....:patsch
If you want to discuss the merits of this heavyweight divison, please do, you will be horribly owned.

Clearly, somebody taped it right in the arena. Why they were focusing on the monitor, and not on the ring, is what I don't get.
Anyway, Williams got STARCHED with a capital "S." He went back and then he flopped forward - this should be in the running for KO of the year, imo.:yep

Marciano Frazier
10-07-2007, 11:34 PM
When was he on top of the hill? He had some solid wins going into the Mesi fight, and after that, he beat McCall, Castillo(who was top 25 at the time), Jefferson, and Mollo(who was undefeated at the time and has gone on to prove himself to have some substance), went the distance with Byrd in a(stunningly boring, but) close decision, and decked Wlad before losing a technical SD.
All-in-all, a pretty solid body of work. He was a top 15 guy for 3-4 years. Compared with this, that's "on top of the hill" for sure.
