Angulo looked like he won but the early rounds were to lz.
Also round 12 and a couple more easily makes the fight close lz landed many really clean body shots throughout.
I would have given the edge to angulo but the cuts from headbutt made the fight look better for angulo imo.
Draw probably would have been more understandable.

Angulo schooled him. Made Zappa miss all night.
3 Showtime judges sitting ringside pretty much agreed. Zappa's team knew he won the moment the final bell rang. They knew he only had to get through the fight to get the decision.
That's what happens when you are the promoters boy and they have the judges.

I'd like to hear what Phil has to say about Lennys win. While I am a big supporter of Lenny, unfortunately this time round he got beaten fair and square by Angulo. You only have to look at all of the swelling and bruising on zappas face...promoters decision of course

As I said at the pub, 'Fuck 'em, we're still owed for Fenech-Nelson I.'
I knew as soon as the point was deducted from Angulo, Zappa had it. He wouldn't have helped his case in coming in overweight, again.

Very tough fight for young Zappa against a guy who weighed-in heavy.
He will learn an enormous amount from that fight and be much better for the experience.
I thought he did well early, with the fight getting away from him during the middle rounds.
I thought Zappa showed tremendous courage & grit to win the 11th (clear, imo) and stake a claim for the 12th (which the judges gave him).
I watched the Showtime television coverage but would be interested in hearing the perspectives of anyone who watched the fight live in the arena. It's very easy to be influenced by what the commentators are saying when watching televised coverage.
I disagreed with the commentary when Antonio Tarver kept saying that Angulo was landing the 1-2 cleanly throughout the fight. On many occasions when that combination was thrown by Angulo it was straight into Zappa's gloves.
Personally, I thought it was good to see the Yankee Doodle Dandy judges look after our best young prospect and I am sure he will improve considerably with this experience under his belt.

Mate.. fuck 'em... just like Leon says.. in the words of Jimmy Lennon Jnr "114... to 114..... A DRAW.... The decision is A DRAW"
Anyone remember Noufel Ben Rabah vs Juan Urango???
Harding vs McCallum.
Fammo vs Saldivar
Griffo vs McAullife
Tszyu vs Mas
Trotter vs Pyatt/Hughes
Kelly vs Pyatt
etc. etc. etc. About time we got a little back from O/S efforts.

Looking after young up & coming prospects is standard procedure over there.
Good to see them spread a little goodwill our way.
Lenny showed good ability early and plenty of guts late.
It's a win & we'll take it.

IB's card: 8-4 for Angulo. With the point deduction mandated by the ref, that's 115-112.
Of those, the only rounds I consider too close to be 100% confident on are one that I gave to Zappa and one that I gave to Angulo. So even giving Zappa that close round that Angulo got, we're talking about 7-5 and a final score of 114-113 (for Angulo).
Basically Zappa had the first third of the fight in hand; when Angulo started shrugging off his power and hitting him from all sorts of angles (not to mention the outpour of blood), Zap never fully regained his composure and got muscled.

Bottom line is that Angulo was the opponent, Zappa was the prospect & the judges scored accordingly.
I think sometimes fans just need to accept the wisdom of the judges' decision.:good

The thing is, it isn't as though the young and talented Zappavigna wouldn't be able to easily bounce back and rebuild from a close decision loss to a determined past contender here.
He'd be right in the mix again in no time, and based on his gutty showing would still get invited to return to American TV had the scores gone the other (right) way.
Angulo, on the other hand, will likely never see another 12 rounder...at least not one of note.
Don't try to spin it like there's twisted justice in this or "for the best". And the nationalistic payback angle is bollocks, too - unless Aussies have gotten tough breaks in Venezuela. Fernando ain't American. :deal

Please don't pretend that professional boxing is a level playing field when we both know it's anything but.
Zappa's career could just have easily been over before it began if the decision had gone against him.
Angulo was brought in as the opponent and that's the role he played in this fight. He will likely be used in that role again in the future given his strong showing.
It's not like his career has been killed in the manner you are suggesting. Shit, he would not even have been able to go home with the belt given he weighed in three pounds over the weight limit.
The judges' looked after the prospect which happens all over the world. I'm sure it has even occurred in Latin America once in a while.

You may also have given Lenny the first four rounds straight instead of splitting them 2-2 as Steve Farhood did.
You might also have given Lenny the 11th based on pure guts & determination (I know I did). In the 12th, rewatch the opening exchanges and see who gets through with the clean punches and who misses.

Good to see Zappa win, but disappointing to see him win in this manner.
I don't care which boxer wins this way, it's just an indictment on the sport to see results like this handed.
I thought Angulo won by a couple but with the point deduction knew it would be a close decision. A 116-111 scorecard in favour of Zappa is ludicrous.
Put it this way, if results like this are being handed at the top level of the sport, how many fighters in the am's are losing career opportunities and turning away from the sport due to such decisions and politics.
A rematch would be nice, but unlikely, ala Dib - Marali.

Indeed. Besides the head clash, Zappa's face had all the swelling and bruising. I personally judged it a majority to Angulo. Zappa put in a great fight but still needs a lot of work.

Watched the fight. Not sure who commentated the fight in Australia but the the American ones started becoming anti-zappa about 1/2 way through the fight when they realised this prospect wasnt as hot as he was blown up to be.
Zappa has some power, but he got discouraged and lost for answers when he noticed they weren't hurting Angulo as much as he'd hoped.
What really stuck out though, as patrick has already mentioned, was the corner work. Absolutely terrible. Where was the cut man?? That was a big cut and someone really needed to tend to that cut as soon as Lenny's ass hit that chair, but unfortunately that 'somebody' was the trainer himself. Instead it was only tended to at the end of the break with a bit of vaso and an occasional cotton bud. The trainer was therefore concentrating on cleaning Lenny up instead of giving him some instructions as to how to beat Angulo. And then he should at least remain somewhat calm. The guy was f*kn shaking from adrenaline... yelling around at everyone who was totally disorganised as if this was the first time they had ever had a losing fighter with a cut. All in all terrible work. In addition I wasnt sure whether he was representing australia or italy. the italian flag was being waved around everywhere including his mouthguard. only saw one brief flash of the aussie flag.
As for who won, IMO it was a close fight. I did give the last 2 rounds to LZ, so it could easily have gone either way. But a 116-111 score to LZ was rediculous.

Of course the Showtime judges were biased towards Angulo. Even though Zappa is signed by Shaw and GSP is cosy with Showtime, getting next to all the tv dates on the network. Nah, the Showtime crew were really pushing for a Venezuelan kid who had 6 losses, and had lost his last two. The kid who took the fight on two weeks notice. Angulo was worth so much to the network, they had to spruke him, even though a win wasn't going to get him a belt. Angulo was to be Showtimes next Gatti - he just need some hype, even at 29 years of age.
OR how about this....
Maybe the crew just called it how they saw it. Like, objectively.
maybe???

How did you score it mate?
I gave Zappa rounds 1, 2 and 3....round 7.....round 11 and 12...plus the point off made it quite even...its close mate....6 to 5 Zappa with 1 round being a draw
i scored the same rounds as ash, which would make it even for me, bar the 1 point deduction therefore 114-113
stiflers mum
03-07-2010, 07:37 PM
LZ 3 of first 4 .1 round after that. one 9-9 round with the ridiculous IMO point deduction.like the Dragons-Bulldogs game last year when Idris scored at the end to win the game but the video ref ruled a bullshit obstruction call against Soward and the Dragons won.sure the team or in this case the fighter i supported won but lets not pretend he
deserved it.hopefully LZ can make the most of this gift.
IMO Kessler/Calzaghe was as close as that.Lenny faded or Angulo figured him out after the 4th.hey bad decisions happen.
Kegsy
03-07-2010, 07:40 PM
I had it 114-113 to Angulo...real close but leant slighly to him.
I can see Lenny Zappa winning a close nod like the 114-113 card for Zappa...but 116-111 was no doubt quite wide.

they say its different at the fight than on TV but gee 5 points difference.the commentators were ringside they had no loyalties either way and know their boxing we know what their opinions were.Angulo got robbed.

Ey Ty,
Best of luck with your fight in Thailand. Just a tip...a whole range of people you have lied about and put shit on have Thai friends that would do anything for them for a dollar or two.
When you are crossing the road in Thailand make sure to look left and right.
And also be very aware when you are out at night.
Again, best of luck Hot Sauce.

No worries Hot Sauce.
The quote below is from a thread Ty has going at his "private" site where he is explaining to everyone how his training is going for his upcoming professional debut in Thailand.
He's explained to people who don't know him and that will never meet him that he is persecuted in NSW and cannot get a fair shake. But he will never explain the real reasons why he has burned all his bridges, and makes up a range of lies that truly prove how deluded he is. Because I'm telling you right now no sane man could believe the shit this cunt believes.
He's also showing them designs of the tattoo he is going to get before his debut and asking for opinions...lol.
If I could get a hold of the lot of it for you all to see and read it would be a real treat. It's as scattered as a mad old womans shit.
Ive had to move the training diary to protect myself from potential crazys who think they know people in thailand and have made public threats to sabotage the fight and to pay thai thugs to do physical harm to me before the bout.
Like I said...priceless! If you were any more deluded/insane you would need to be locked up...to protect yourself from yourself.
Do you want me to house mind for you while you are away champ?

Ey you are using this as an excuse because you are still 100kg and your tattoo won't be ready before you go.

You tried to challenge me to fight you professionally then...lol. You fucken stupid deluded loop...you've gone full circle on yourself and resorted to being the loser you always were as you've got no where else to turn.

I don't live at home? I pay the rent for me and my Mum to live together in a rental property?
Which is probably a pretty good idea as I have been looking after her full time for the past 12 months as you would know...since she got cancer and has been going through chemotherapy remember?
As for the rest of your weird post...why are you talking about kids? Lets remember I didn't say anything or start talking about kids or anyones kid.
Ty you are in serious trouble. Talking on here as if nothing is wrong won't change that fact. Deep down you know it. The more you talk, the more stupid you look in front of an ever increasing audience.
A person with any semblance of sanity would just shut the fuck up, walk away and realise he is never going to be anything ever ANYWHERE near Sydney for all the stupid shit you've done and said about people...nothing more, nothing less. You keep deluding yourself though and keep posting away.
Keep spinning shit and attacking people on here to try to make it look different, but as I said before and I'll repeat again the "real" people in the "real" world, who know and who need to know, are fully aware of who you are and what you are. You can't change that anymore.
I hope you are also aware that banning me from "that" site is completely ineffective. To stop me getting what you want to deny me, you'd need to ban a whole bunch of people who will give me what I want from the same place? What are you going to do ban all the Australian members? You are completely piss weak and powerless in every respect. Please be aware of that and remember it.

I watched the fight this morning and personally had angulo winning by a couple of points, however I could (just) live with the 114-113 score to zappa but no way in hell was it 116-111. Zappa just looked like a kid trying to impress with an early ko and couldn't adapt when angulo showed that he wasn't just going to bend over. The commentary were spot on in regards to zappa's right hand being awful. This was an ugly fight.
Lots of people have written stupid things about this fight. A gift decision should not happen because the guy is the prospect, robberies are never good for the sport. Someone said they reckon zappa won a couple of rounds on 'heart' which is a ridiculous notion. The best guy on the night should win period. Also you can't measure a fight by facial damage.
The corner work was far too frenetic and no-one told him to throw straight punches.

Stop trying to pretend to be normal! It's not working! Why are you trying to make out that I have lost it because I am looking after my sick Mum? You are fucken classless. You cannot wriggle out of this by trying to make me look insane or bad in any way. But to try to use my Mum's illness to say that I am not of sound mind? Jesus you really are a dirty, nasty classless piece of shit. I've known it for a long time but I have now confirmed it for myself.
It can also be seen clear as day that you have threatened me first in here, not the other way around as you state.
Posts 77 by you, and 78 by me quoting you show you to be the first person to issue physical threats.
I don't have a problem with that but you need to understand you made the first physical threat and there is also no way you can spin any shit to make it look different. This idea you have that I threatened you first is again pure fantasy of someone who is obviously not of sound mind.
You need to see a psychiatrist. Book in as soon as possible. Your life truly depends on it you'll never resolve these issues you have, and the future welfare of your poor, poor partner and child are at stake. I don't give a fuck about you but it's extremely difficult not to feel sorry for those closest to you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The IBO in recent years have strived for credibility in Australia mainly due to the efforts of their local representative.
The last couple of years has seen some positive moves by the org, putting on some big bouts and really getting their name out there.
Although I didn't agree with the sanctioning of the Mundine-Medley bout, I firmly believe that the message they sent was the right one.
Contrary to what Team Mundine may think, Sorry boys, your not bigger than the sport!
Should they ever have anything to do with Team Mundine again, imo they will undo whatever credibility thay gained by their stance

so back to the fight
i just wanted to talk about the corner for a minute... tommy mercuri didnt seem to have any control and at times it was taking them 30-40 seconds to get pressure on the cuts and even a wet fucking towel
there was one guy in particular that was a problem, 2nd assistant maybe, he was standing there going "your a fucking legend Lenny" instead of getting water etc
the guy needs to drop the hangers on and just have tommy, a decent cutman and another bloke

They waited till lenny sat down to look for the towel :patsch and whilst the main guy was panicking his fighter the 2nd popped up with something like "youre the champ lenny", there should be one voice and it should be calm and to the point.

There is a handy rule I use when in doubt. Take a look at both fighters faces after the fight. The one with the pizza face is the one that lost.

When I read the comments about this fight, like most who loath unfair decisions, I was expecting the worst.
Last night I watched the fight.
To say judging is a subjective exercise, this fight would have to prove it based on previous comments.
When I score a fight seriously, it's Red corner, Blue corner. They may as well be identicle twins, but in the end, it just my opinion.
This is the way i saw it.
I have no idea why people would say Angulo got robbed.
It became pretty obvious that by the 3 rd round Fernando was pacing himself (Weight issues). Jab, right hand, clinch... Jab, right hand, clinch. It became so repetitious it was annoying.
It's one thing to take control of a fight by showing your opponent when & where the exchange will happen, but it has to happen. That's where ringmanship gets confused with failure to engage.
There was a distinct reluctance by Angulo to remain engaged.
I thought the referee was almost disinterested. There would be a hundred of his colleagues that would have not tolerated having to physically pull fighters apart.
His "Break, step back!" was completely ignored for the whole fight. He repeatedly checked Angulo for holding without getting serious.
Angula has an exciting style, when he is prepared to box for the whole round. He just never did imo. His long range bomber style has you oooing & aahhing all fight long.
I thought Zappa'a body attack was relentless. When the bombs whistled over his head, Zappa flayed the body.
While I couldn't justify a 116-111 on punch count, but I could understand the close rounds (& there were many) going to the fighter most willing to engage, & that would have to be Zappa.
I scored the fight 6 rounds to 5 with the point deduction round being 9-9 even. That foul swipe Angulo took at Zappa's eye deserved what it got imo
I saw it 114-113 for Lenny. I scored it round by round without assessment until the end of the fight. That's about as fair as you can get I hope.
It was hardly a gift.
