Audley Harrison's European title clash with Albert Sosnowski is off because the Pole has been offered a world title shot against Vitali Klitschko instead.
Former Olympic champion Harrison was scheduled to challenge Sosnowski at London's Alexandra Palace on 9 April.
But the 31-year-old Sosnowski will now fight for Klitschko's WBC heavyweight belt in Gelsenkirchen on 29 May.
Londoner Harrison, 38, last fought when winning the Prizefighter heavyweight tournament last October.
After 10 months of inactivity, Harrison knocked out Scott Belshaw in two rounds in the final to earn £32,000 in prize money and a contract with Matchroom Sport promoter Barry Hearn.
He had hoped victory over Sosnowski would lead to a shot at Vitali Klitschko or his younger brother Wladimir, owner of the IBF and WBO belts, but now Harrison will have to consider other options.
Sosnowski, who is based in Brentwood, Essex, is best known for a stoppage win over Danny Williams in 2008, while he claimed the European title with an emphatic points victory over Italian Paolo Vidoz in December.
Sosnowski said: "It's a dream come true. Because of the Harrison fight I am already in training and suddenly here comes the once-in-a-lifetime chance to fight Klitschko.
"For me, Klitschko is already over the hill. I know that I am the underdog for everybody, but I tell you, Klitschko will regret that he picked me.
"Many Polish and Germans with Polish roots live in the Gelsenkirchen area and I hope that they will support me. I will be the first Polish heavyweight champion of the world."
Klitschko said: "I saw Sosnowski's fights on DVD and must admit that he is a very experienced, quick and tough opponent. He will do anything to get my belt but I promise that this is not going to happen."

Vitali's just about the biggest cockblocker in the sport.
Kevin Johnson vs. Odlanier Solis would have been a good proving-grounds fight between two hyped guys (one hyped by himself, and one hyped by a bunch of nationalistic cubanos) to determine a worthy contender.
Then along comes Vitali.
Now this, a good crossroads fight to determine who finally gets a last stab at a real HW (non-WBF) title.
Then along comes Vitali.
He's like the jerk who shows up stag to prom, and then cuts in for a steamy dance with everybody else's girl!

Vitali is still hoping for a fight with Haye, but I will not hold my breath. Vitali will knock Sosnowski out, but is there anyway he can get Haye into the right? Haye broke a signed contract with Vlad, they broke an implied contract with Vitali, so I won't hold my breath. Vitali would knock Haye out, so Haye will want a fortune for such a fight. Chagaev beat Valouev, won WBA title, then Vlad beat Chagaev. WBA took title away from Chagave and gave it to Valouev. Vlad really won WBA title already, and it was in the ring, whatever........

He offered a signed contract to Haye. He offered 2.5 million USD to Valuev - way beyond the market value of the giant. He was talking to Solis.
None of the interesting fighters wanted to "dance on Vitali's prom night". So he invites youger "girls" to the event, 'cause he is running out of time.

Understood, but if he's dipping his fingers in the bargain bin, why does it have to be guys who have fights scheduled, with tickets already sold and fans to be disappointed? There have to be other guys on the Johnson/Sosnowski tier that aren't already committed to something.
Some of us do mind if he cuts in!

Totally agree IB.
Has anyone forgot that Sosnowski was all but shut out by Zuri Lawrence of all people not so long ago?

Vitali has taken on the best and deserves an easy fight for a change. I think he is really hoping he can get Haye into a ring finally.
Wonder if Vitali/Sosnowski will be on clickandbuy like Vlad/Chambers fight?

many heavys have fought no hopers , just a marking time fight hopefully and then onto the next one.
i would have loved vitali to fight james toney, just to shut him up once and for all .

To be honest all the heavies are no hopers when compared to the Klits.

Agreed. Even Vitali would likely clear the field by himself right now, and he's a badly faded fighter. Waching Solis in action this last weekend (and Solis and Chambers have been considered the biggest threats for a while now) only confirms it. Vitali would have an easy night with him, and Wladimir is lightyears beyond Vitali right now in terms of mastery of his physical advantages, as we saw vs. Chambers.

Hello again esb!
No chances for Sosnowski, he will come to the ring only for a purse.

Sosnowski will likely lose, but surely will be hungry and will try his best, as for him it is an oppurtunity of a lifetime, and a shot at the dream. I am thinking he should be as motivated as he has ever been for this, and try to take the fight to Vitali.
Good luck to him, though. What if he won, wouldnt THAT be some shit?

Horrible matchup , Vitali is already dominant over legit contenders why match him up with a 2nd tier fighter? Sosnowski is a journeyman not even close to a top 20 heavyweight.

What can we say about brothers is that they are really afraid of nobody. Vitali's decision of fighting with Sosnowski is unclear but it did not come from the fear of anybody.

I like Vitali and had hoped that he would finish strong. I also like Sosnowski, but this is the wrong fight for both. Sosnowski is not ready yet, and if Vitali is fighting guys who have not yet proven themselves, then he ought to just save himself the trouble and quit early.
