Is there an advantage of using Knuckle guards over conventional hand wraps?
Besides actual wrapping.

Would you recommend them over wraps?

Handwraps will always fit snug and protect you so long as you know how to wrap. Those things have sizes, if your hand is a little different or if they stretch they wont be ideal but its better than nothing. I think wraps are the better option and it takes just a few minutes to learn how.

I actually prefer the gel wraps, as I feel they better protect my knuckles than when I'm using the wrapping. I bet if my hands were wrapped better though, I'd prefer conventional wrapping.

I like gel wraps better but mine was quick to get torn up, and it was a bit pricey..

I don't have a problem using my regular hand wraps, I am just curious if these other items can be better since I have seen others using them. Can it provide better protection?

The gel wraps that I use are the Everlast ones pictured at the top. I"m curious though as to how well those Adidas gloves perform.

I had a pair of the Everlast ones in the first post and they protected my knuckles well but there was no support for the wrist or hand so my hand would ache after training. I cut off the knuckle padding part and just use that under a pair of normal wraps.

If you get a pair of the knuckle guards with a length of wrap attached they should be fine. Or you could save yourself $20 and just use a piece of sponge.

The gloves look like extra padding whereas I would do a wrap that is designed for support. I would leave the glove to act as padding.

i had those and hated them found the wrist protection awful! I know use the cleto reyes hand wraps and put some bandages over the knuckles to put a bit more protection.

i tried that too cutting them up and wrapping over the top and worked really well i might start doing it again. Maybe it was the gloves i wore but i found it quite hard to get them on over the gel knuckles lol

I can imagine a lot of old schoolers shaking their heads right now!

IN saying that, gel wraps are for lazy people.

well there's a variation of the everlast gel wraps that have wraps attached to the gel glove, so wrap first, then gel glove. was too expensive for me though so I didn't get it

I might try putting a shorter pair of wraps around the gel gloves mainly around the wrist area for support. Hopefully I'll be able to get them all in the glove.

you'll probably have to buy a gel glove a size bigger for the wraps to fit in
