If it end's up at Upton, Kats will have 35,000+ right cockney geeza's going nutters against him!

This is a huge fight in London and obviously big support for Kats back here also.

A huge task both inside and outside the ring for Kats.

There's been many horror stories over the years of Oz boxers travelling overseas to fight opponents on their home soil and in front of absolutely hostile 'away' crowds! The pressure on judges & referees, who like all of us have a vested interest in returning home alive, must be enormous!

pffft nothing that will faze Katsidis the great.the SD when he fought Escobedo which was ridiculous will inspire him to end this by brutal KO and take it out of the judges hands and leave the soap dodging hostile pommy crowd crying like Brooklyn negroes on fathers day.:deal

I can't see it selling 35,000 here. It's more likely gonna be at the excel. I imagine mitchell wants to connect himself with the hammers like hatton did man city but he couldnt pull that crowd.

Yeah tend to agree with this....Mick cuts up even when he's well on top.....it's very open to interpretation how bad a cut stops a fight.....I heard Sydney Smutt is in fact a doctor...maybe he can tell us :hey

Sydney Smutt
03-12-2010, 04:39 PM
Simple really Ash

If the blood from the cut is not going into the eye and hampering his vision, cuts then OK to continue.
If the seriousness of the cut (ie position or depth) is not considered to have an impact of a permanent injury if the fight continues, then OK to continue.
Doctor should never be over-ruled if he calls a fight off due to a cut even if under the rules "only the referee can stop the bout".
A corner should wherever possible be given a chance to work on a bad cut in between a round before calling the doctor in.

That will be $150 as it's Saturday and I don't bulk-bill... pay up fucker!

Sydney Smutt
03-12-2010, 04:45 PM
As for the referee in the fight, England does allow neutral refs (ie non-British) as long as they are not US as America will not allow UK refs to work there. If a UK ref is used their best refs are
1) Howard Foster
1) Richie Davies
3) Victor Laughlin
4) Jim's Brother
5) Phil Edwards

Hopefully one of these (pref Foster, Davies or Lauglin) is appointed as Mick will get more than a fair go under their command.

NB - Mickey Vann has been retired by the BBBoC after having reached mandatory retirement age but can still work world title fights if appointed. I didn't include him in the above list for that reason and a couple of others....

I tend to agree with this.......I dont see any guys on Mitchells record that would show hes been in with a guy like Mick.....I think the way Mick fought against Ecobedo was his best fight all round in regard to defence and picking shots....in saying that Escobedo was taylor made for Mick....he just cant fight on the inside

The only fight I have seen of mitchell was against johannson on the haye/enzo undercard. Mitchell looked good early but couldn't handle the pressure of johannson in the middle rounds and was almost stopped. I can't see him being able to handle the pressure of kats. Kats defence and pressure fighting has improved a lot in the last few fights.

Yeah that bit was off the mark....I thought Prescott started ok but Mitchell won the fight by 3 or 4 in my book.

What I was referring to was the manner of how Mitchell won......'on the bike for 12'....and Mitchell has come out and said he will trade with Mick however I agree with the author....he will avoid heavy exchanges and box from the outside.

No dont know the writer

Sai

Mitchell will definitely be the boxer in the fight, but hes definitely not afraid to mix it up a bit. If he mixes it up too much though he could be in some real trouble. I do think the writer of that is really underrating Mitchell. He's really come on a lot of late.

Tell you what though, if I was fighting in that weight range, Id duck Katsidis. He'd be absolutely terrifying to fight.

Im seriously looking forward to this scrap, it should be a *******.

Kats has to rely on Mitchell having no brains whatsoever (It's called a "Ty" in Australia), and luring him into a slugging match where he has a chance. Straight boxing match then Kats, with his incredibly poor defence is in a spot of bother IMO

Thats exactly the way i see it , IF Mitchell starts trying to prove he can out brawl Kat's infront of his mates down in West Ham then he will come unstuck , pronto , If he boxes to his ability then i see him edging it , the thing that worries me is his lack of World class opposition we all know where Kats has been and win lose or draw at that level there is no substitue for experience and Kats has experience in spades ..

Gotta run mate ... Fooking work . :-(

"Kevin's a real east end boy and I know the people from down that way will come out and support him."

Katsidis, who is hoping to get good support from London's Greek and Australian communities, said he was looking forward to returning to London.

"I've got happy memories of fighting Graham Earl at Wembley," said Katsidis.

"People booed me when I came into the right but our fight was so exciting they were cheering when I left.

"There's so many Aussies in London that there could be more of us there than the Brits on the night."

Mitchell and Katsidis also swapped insults after Katsidis claimed Mitchell "ran like a cat" against Breidis Prescott.

"I won't run from you, I promise that," said Mitchell. "We'll see who runs on the night. I'll land one on your chin and I'll knock you out."

Katsidis replied: "Your promoter says you've got a secret weapon - is it your mouth? If you couldn't knock out Prescott how are you going to knock out me?

"You can keep on talking but I promise there I'll be there on the night."

Michael Katsidis an inspirational story of triumph over adversity
who would have thought after serving 8 months jail for breaking someones jaw(BargeFTA perhaps?)and fighting on the Mundine-Kessler undercard for nothing that we would be witnessing the typical Aussie battler underdog on the cusp of greatness.travelling and relocating overseas.fighting in hostile environments.clawing his way back to the top after 2 losses in succession and here we are again fighting Mitchell,in his backyard with the odds stacked against him.the road has been rocky which will make victory that much sweeter.Michael'the great'Katsidis all Australians(except BargeFTA)salute you.

Agree...however Katsidis has improved out of sight and it showed when he dismantled Golden Boy's next big thing Vincent Escobedo.

Katsidis now picks his time to come in, employs a disciplined and effective defensive technique, and most of all the use of lateral movement on the way in and out.

On top of these new additions to his arsenal, Katsidis has changed his game plan and is ready to go 12 rounds every fight so he no longer sits in the zone swinging away.

Face facts mate Mitchell has NEVER faced a puncher like Katsidis and he will be dismantled, embarrassed and then KTFO

I'll tell you what's wrong with it, you can evaluate things properly and you can end up looking a dick. I honestly think Katsidis power is overrated. He has a high workrate so does get his fair share of stoppages but they are mainly from the cumulative affect of his punches rather than one punch.

i dont think his power is over rated,i think he doesnt put everything on them like he used to,so he doesnt leave himself open as much, i think its a logical trade off when someone has to imrove their defence to increase their use by date in th sport.

he was within a wisker away of knocking out cassa, who has a great chin, had him on queer st a couple of times.his style has changed due to the result of that fight and that fight only.

somthing has got to give, hence not many kos since amonsot cassa fights.i also think he has bad accuracy on his punches, which doesnt help his power.

Parris is a dud
When he struggled to raise the hand of the well beaten Chris PYatt against Kevin Kelly for the Comm title, it pretty well summed up the way Parris played the game. ;););););)
He embarrassed the shit out of the fair dinkum English fans, & the ringside commentary. ("What fight was he watching") was their comment.

Mitchell vows to make Katsidis pay

By Scott Gilfoid:

Number #1 ranked WBO lightweight contender Kevin Mitchell (31-0, 23 KO’s) vows to make World Boxing Organization lightweight interim champion Michael Katsidis (26-2, 21 KO’s) pay for not showing him the proper respect three years ago when the two fighters met, according to Sportinglife.

Mitchell met Katsidis three years ago when fighting on the undercard of Katsidis’ 5th round stoppage of Graham Earl on February 17th, 2007. Mitchell apparently came up to Katsidis and paid him a compliment for having fought well against Earl.

However, Katsidis didn’t compliment Mitchell in return and didn’t seem to give Mitchell the reaction he was looking for from Katsidis. Mitchell said “I’ve always remembered that and it’s stuck with me to this day. His fight against Earl was one of the best I have ever seen, and I went up to him to tell him that.

But rather than show me the kind of respect fighters usually have for each other, he looked at me like I was a nobody. I couldn’t believe it. I was just a young kid who wanted to big up a fighter who’d just put it all on the line. I’ve met a lot of champions in my time, and his behavior that night was the worst I’ve come across.”

I wonder if it has ever crossed Mitchell’s mind that Katsidis might not have known who he was at the time that he approached him. I can see it. Mitchell, looking all of 22, walks up to a guy that just fought a five round war and compliments him. Katsidis was probably having his backside kissed over and over again after that fight by a throng of fans, and then Mitchell walks up. I can see where Katsidis might not have recognized the guy and just out of ignorance didn’t give him the reaction wanted.

Mitchell has become better known lately, but I wonder if Katsidis really knew who he was back then? How can you blame a guy because he didn’t show you the reaction you wanted when he just finished brawling with some guy for five rounds? Katsidis took some shots in that fight and I can understand why he might not be showing courtesy to everyone that approached him after the bout. Probably distracted and thinking about other stuff. Back in 2007, Mitchell was still mostly fighting guys from local British boxing scene and hadn’t started to really take on fighters from around the world.

Mitchell, still upset about Katsidis not showing him the proper respect, said “Until that moment, I was one of his biggest fans, but afterwards, I was desperate to knock him out. Right there and then, I thought to myself ‘you’re going to pay for that.” Oh brother. Why should Katsidis have recognized Mitchell when he was still not fighting world class opponents? What do you expect from the guy? It isn’t like Mitchell was fighting in Australia where Katsidis lives.

I could see Mitchell being upset about Katsidis not showing him respect – or whatever he was looking for – in that circumstance, but to be upset about him not getting excited about a fighter that had been fighting almost all his fights in the UK at that point seems a little bizarre.

Even now, Mitchell is still fighting most of his fights in the UK and has not been venturing to other parts of the world to fight, with the exception of his bout against Walter Estrada. I’d say his best opponent to date is Breidis Prescott, and I wasn’t impressed in the slightest with that win by Mitchell. In fact, I had Prescott winning that fight by eight rounds to four. Mitchell ran from Prescott in every rounds, occasionally stooping to throw a pot shot before resuming his running. I saw this as a controversial decision and didn’t see anything from that victory that would make me think that Mitchell can beat a fighter like Katsidis.

I hope Mitchell does go and try to knock Katsidis out, but if he does that, I see Mitchell knocked into oblivion by Katsidis. I think Mitchell will start off trying to pay Katsidis back for this long ago slight, but as soon as he tastes Katsidis’ power, my guess is Mitchell will be off to the races, sprinting around the ring all night long in a fight that will be painfully boring to watch. But I really hope Mitchell just stands and trades with Katsidis and gives the fans something to remember for as long as it lasts.

KATSIDIS SOAKS UP ANOTHER BATTLE IN THE UK

On May 15th at Upton Park Stadium, West Ham United Michael Katsidis defends his WBO interim lightweight title against home town favourite Kevin Mitchell. Katsidis boxing strengths and skill will be under the watchful eye of UK promoter Frank ******. Mitchell is undefeated with 31 wins and ranked # 9, Katsidis # 2 has 26 wins, 2 loses to former world champions Joel Cassamayor and Juan Diaz, this will be Mitchell's toughest professional fight. Mitchell promises his fans an explosive fight, fulfilling a dream of boxing for a world title at his local Upton Park Stadium in front of his peers, family and friends.

Katsidis is no stranger to the UK, in 2007 Katsidis was nominated for boxer of the year for his brutal fights with Czar Amonsot and UK hard man Graham Earl “ People booed me when I came into the ring but our fight was so exciting they were cheering when I left” this fight earned him respect and admiration from the UK and fans around the world. After his success in 2007 the Katsidis team tested his boxing skill and strengths securing a fight with former world champion Joel Cassamayor. A war between two determined boxers saw them both knocked down by round six, ending in a technical knockout in round ten and the loss of the WBO interim lightweight title to Cassamayor. A controversial loss that could have went either way against Juan Diaz added a second loss to Katsidis record. In 2009 he returned to the ring winning all three of his challenging fights, claiming back the interim WBO lightweight title from Vicente Escobedo.

With the title back in his corner and his first defence Mitchell better come prepared for the hardest fight of his boxing career. Katsidis has improved with every fight, he has been bloodied and bruised fighting our worlds best. A knockout punch, one of the hardest in the lightweight division Katsidis will be in fine form to deliver once again a great fight for boxing fans and the world to see. A true warrior, his come forward style and solid punching power force many boxers to trade punch for punch. Mitchell has good boxing sense, skill and is a tough competitor but hasn't been in the ring with a boxer of Katsidis stature and power. Katsidis is a credit to his opponent and an asset to the world of boxing, 'If boxing is a business then there is no greater asset than Katsidis'.

Nope not at all - Katsidis all the way. Just means that I have both eyes open and can acknowledge the fight that Kostya was more than happy to go low throughout the fight and the last big low blow from Hatton was payback from yet another low shot from our man. Kostya fought dirty his entire career, it's just that some cry-babies around here can't seem to acknowledge this. My call is Katsidis KO5

Hatton looked like he wanted it more to me , If Kostya had any complaints why didn't he air them on the mic whilst still in the ring ? I think Mr Lewis made the correct decision ( Did Kostya ever fight again ) ? Kostya was a great fighter imo but that's not to say EVERY fighter that unifies is, some argue Calzaghe & Haye ain't great fighters but Darchinyan is ? it's all a matter of opinion . :good

He certainly had the momentum and KT got a good payday from it to fight in hattons backyard. I had it fairly even up until about rd six where kostya started to tire and ricky picked it up.

From memory his training approach to the fight was rather abstract as well. I think he was trying to train his body clock to be in tune with UK time so was training sleeping weird hours in oz for the leadup and then flew straight to uk with little settling in time which didn't work.

Kats seems to be relishing in taking his time to adjust whilst over there.

KT also had problems making the weight. Everything was on track until the time spent in the UK.

Emanuel Augustus was a sparring partner for that fight and he travelled to the UK with the team to continue the sparring. He told me that Kostya's power was definetely down when they sparred in the UK compared to how it was in Sydney before leaving.

In the final wash up....the best guy on the night won.

I agree that was no ordinary retaliation low blow, that was a superman effort that deserved points taken off or even worse.

This is what i will never understand, a man of kostyas intelligence takes advice from the ais in regards to how he will regulate his body clock for the fight. The advice was obviously VERY FLAWED, to sleep at the time of the fight for almost two weeks prior and then stay awake til 4am on the morning of the fight, and expect to push a 37 yo body to its limits is sheer insanity.

When i heard this i thought your kidding right, when i seen him come out of the dressing rooms i though fuck he looks dead tired, bloodshot eyes and half asleep, he was rubbing the shit out of his eyes trying to snap out off it, thats when i told the boys its over.

Cant believe kostya didnt question the advice.
this isnt sour grapes either, just my opinion.

No it ain't bullshit, it's my opinion, as well as other's quite clearly so no, I don't know it!

If you think Kostya had the better momentum of that fight, you are seriously kidding.

If Kostya didn't quit, let me say that again, quit, he wasn't going to win it on the scorecards either at the end of that round.

And by the way, if you think that's a 'bullshit' statement, check the scorecards on BoxRec which show all three having it to Hatton.

So, I'll stand by the original opinion of Ippy which I agreed with and said was a pretty fair statement!

For Kostya to quit, what, he wasn't being dominated? Why else would someone quit?

And if all three judges had Hatton winning, two by very clear margins, what else do you class it?

Hatton had the clear momentum of the fight and in my opinion, at no stage did he never look the winner.

Buster, I'm a KT fan, but I also view things for what they were and call it as I see it. It appears though by the balance of opinion on here that I wasn't the only one sharing that view.

Brothers make their father proud

The Daily Advertiser
20 May, 2010

by Les Muir

WAGGA tradesman Harry Katsidis almost bursts with pride when talking about his two sons.

Little wonder too as Harry's boys, Michael and Stathi, are something special on the Australian sporting landscape.

Michael Katsidis is a boxing phenomenon who smashed previously-unbeaten English fighter Kevin Mitchell in a WBO lightweight title bout in London on Saturday.

Half a world away, Stathi Katsidis was also putting his great sporting talent on show at Doomben races in Brisbane.

Stathi is one of Australia's top jockeys and has ridden 132? winners from 788 mounts in the current racing season.

With two diverse sporting champions in his corner, Harry Katsidis knows he is definitely in a unique position.

"Bloody oath," Harry said yesterday.

"It's amazing.

"They're both so really good at what they do."

Currently working on the $100 million project at Kapooka military precinct, Harry Katsidis is living in Wagga after four years in Tumut.

Still bubbling after Michael's stunning TKO success in England, Harry yesterday revealed he had every intention to be ringside for his son's next bout.

"Michael rang me last night (Tuesday) and said he was sort of planning to fight again in nine weeks' time," Harry said.

"He's not sure where. It could be England or it could be in Australia.

"I've missed his last two fights, but I want to be at the next one."

Michael Katsidis, 29, has won 27 of his 29 fights and is a big-money earner overseas, according to his father.

"He's (Michael) over there for money," Harry said yesterday.

"He wasn't getting the recognition here (in Australia), but he's starting to get it now."

As excited as he is about Michael's world dominance, Harry is equally thrilled and proud of Stathi's accomplishments on Australia's top racetracks.

"Stathi's made an unbelievable comeback," he father said yesterday.

"He hadn't ridden for sometime, but he's made up for it in the last 12 months.

"I always try to have a bet on his rides."

Recalling their childhood growing up in Toowoomba and Moree, Harry said his sons had always been keen to have a go at all manner of sports.

"When they were young they tried everything," Harry said.

"My wife Robyn (since separated) used to spend a lot of time running around to all the sports.

"I think they'd both made up their minds what they liked the best by the time they were about 14."

Harry said Michael took up boxing because he had so "much energy".

"He couldn't get to sleep at night," Harry said.

"So he went down to the police youth club (to do boxing)."

Harry says Stathi tried athletics and other sports, but riding horses was his passion.

"When he was 14 he said to me he wanted to leave school and become a jockey," Harry recalled.

"I told him to stay at school but he ultimately left school when he turned 15.

"He was that determined to be a jockey."

Now living well apart from his sons, Harry stays in touch with members of his famous family.

"I see Stathi a fair bit," he said.

"I haven't seen Michael for 15 months and I'm missing him.

"I'd love to have a family reunion at his next fight."

By James Slater - ESB - 26th Aug 2010

Lightweight king Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico had two options for his next fight: either go up to 140-pounds and challenge WBA light-welterweight ruler Amir Khan, or stay at 135 and defend against mandatory challenger and interim WBO champ Michael Katsidis. Well, according to ESPN.com, the 37-year-old has chosen to get it on with the tough and exciting warrior from Australia.
