View Full Version : Not an excuse-- Peter VASTLY underestimated McCline

Obviously not only was Peter underestimating Maskaev, but he also did the same kind of training Tarver did before facing Rocky when he heard McCline was the replacement.

Let's be honest-- he trained harder for Vlad because he was SCARED of Vlad. He trained hard for the Toney rematch because he knew he lost the first fight.

When Peter is complacent, he is even worse than usual.

There's no excuse for getting rocked by McCline.

peter would be an idiot to take any fringe contender lightly -- especially a guy much bigger than him--b/c he's just a contender. not training excuse is b.s.

I guess saying you were drugged before a fight is a good excuse for a loss. Peter was not in good shape...that is all.. he had some rust and got rocked and he was able to take shots as he got warmed up...END OF THREAD>

Peter was vastly overrated. I didnt see devasting one punch power that he is billed as having, he landed many shots, they didnt bother Mccline though. Supposedly Peter has an indestructable chin, but he was knocked down 3 times , barley surving being stopped.

Peter didn't vastly overestimate Mccline. The public vastly overestimated peter. I've been saying it for a very long time and even though he got the W I feel vindicated after last night.

Was yesterday the first time that the ref actually warned Peter about his rabbit punches?

He knocked down Brock, Byrd, and knocked out several second-tier opponents pretty decisively. Also knocked out Grant in a weird fight, for what it's worth....hurt Whitaker a few times as well.

It's not power McCline lacks, it's aggression.

Agreed, and you can add Briggs to that list. Many people say Briggs has a weak chin but i disagree. He took many monster shots from a peak Lennox Lewis and kept coming. I think McCline was the only one to knock him down after that, not too bad considering he got beat up pretty bad by Ibragimov without going down (legitly).

I agree with the original poster. He did not have the same fire last night that he had against Wlad and Toney. But to his credit, he still managed to pull the fight out after being knocked down three times. That's quite impressive if you ask me. And it's just another learning experience in Peters book as he gets better.

Mccline is like 6 foot whatever..a tall mofo and he got a lot of leverage on his punches..he his not heavy handed but if he uses that leverage and his above average hand speed for a heavyweight that would knock anyone silly. That uppercut he rocked Peter with was a perfect counter that peter never seen. I guess that is Peters weakness getting rocked from below the jaw...

Brock, Byrd, Whitaker, and especially Grant were never touted as granite chinned.
