I thought i'd start a thread where we would completely breakdown and analyse a particular weight class, the contenders, champions, journeyman, rankings, best matchups, best prospects, future of the division, history of the division etc.
Lets start with the light middleweights (sorry to start with a halfway house) but my inspiration for starting with this division is when i realised just how good 154 would be in a super six style tourney, I also recently watched this kid Vanes Martyosyan or however you spell it, after hearing a lot about him, my thoughts? a salty fighter at best. He doesn't have the footwork to match the loaded stalk stance he naturally fights out of. If you're gonna load up on the right side then you better have some bounce going backwards like Chad Dawson; but Vanes doesn't have the IT factor. Sergio would box circles around him. Next up should be Angulo as they have Tsurkan as a common opponant. Angulo would walk Vanes down imo.
Anyway just to start you off, the best fighter ever in this division IMO is Tommy Hearns with Terry Norris and Mike McCallum second and third for me.
Best prospect is Kirkland (if/when he gets outta jail)
I'll let youz take it from there...

I would say Kirkland and Erislandy Lara are the top prospects at 154. I'm a big fan of Lara its just a shame he doesn't seem to possess much power. Skills wise he's right up there and fighting Grady Brewer in your 10th pro fight says it all for me, i think he could be the future of the division.
IMO Paul Williams is the top junior middleweight in the world, i dont think he could make welter safely any longer so i class 154 as his division. Him and Martinez are the standouts at the top but we dont know which division their future lies in as they fought at Middleweight, and Sergio is fighting Pavlik in his next fight.
I haven't seen alot of Dzinziruk to be honest, but i would put him around the same mark as Angulo and Cintron based on what i've heard. They're quite even IMO just underneath Williams and Martinez at the top.
I agree about Vanes, he struggled big time with Ouma in his last fight but there is always the Freddie Roach factor. He's on such a hot streak right now i don't think i could ever bet against one of his fighters.
I dont think Foreman's title reign will last too much longer, i think Cotto will be too much for him even as a shell of his former self.

C'mon don't be shy. Lol
who we talking about at 54's; what's the discussion at hand? Did Kirkland get outta jail and we talking some Anne Wolfe bitch boy future? Or you wonna talk some Cintron vs. Martinez in the only fight in history where a fighter lost said fight twice in one night? Or how about Angulo with his dog collar shine as the only piece of strap he'll ever have around the waist or neck being a plodder and Mexican version of Jeff Lacy, one dimensional. Oh how will Miguel Angel fare at this weight? (personally i thought he should've taken a break, he doesn't need the money and is young enough to comeback in a couple of years after a well earned rest, this Yuri fight is not a good look IMO)
whats the best fight ever at 154? your best memories and favourite fighters in this divisional.
Plenty to get your teeth into Brit ESB brethren..shoot!

Light Middle is a strange division. the best 2 fighters have been fighting at Middleweight in Williams and Martinez and the next best Dzinzurik and Spinks have been largley inactive. The top prospect is in prison. and the biggest hope for a top fighter is Cotto coming up, a fighter who looks to be coming to the end.
Current ESB rankings at Light Middle
Light-Middleweight*
Champion: (Vacant)
1. Cory Spinks
2. Yuri Foreman
3. Kermit Cintron
4. Ryan Rhodes
5. Alfredo Angulo
6. Daniel Santos
7. Vanes Martirsoyon
8. Lukas Konecny
9. Deandre Latimore
10. Joachim Acline
*The ESB Championship can be won in any fight involving two eligible fighters.
Sergiy Dzinziruk is unranked due to being inactive for over a year, but is also eligable for the ESB Championship. Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez both eligible for the ESB Championship if they fight another eligible fighter at Light Middleweight. Currently they are both ranked at Middlweight.
Slip, what do you think of Dzinziruk?
IMO, he has one of the best jabs in the sport but he's wasted his prime over in Germany. Only now has he decided to go the States when he's 34 or something. Prior to Sergio "coming out" against Bunema and Cintron, Dzinziruk was probably top dog at 154.
Angulo is someone I like watching fight but Cintron showed us his limitations. As long as someone can stick behind a decent jab and keep their range they're going to befuddle El Perro.
What the hell happened to "Mean" Joe Greene? I saw him on an undercard once and was impressed with what I saw but haven't heard about him since!! There was some talk of him fighting Martinez last year but he got injured or something :huh

I asked this on the general got no responses
I remember he had gallstones a few weeks before the fight looks to have saved him a beating. I like Joe was a decent all round fighter but seems to have lost his way at the minute.
