What can you tell me about Brian Mitchell?

I rarely ever his name mentioned on here....or anywhere for that matter! Outside of his fights with Tony "The Tiger" Lopez I have not seen much of him maybe the mcDonnell fight??? He only had 1 loss in his carear, very early on like his 6th fight for some unknown (to me anyway) minor title. he would retire as a champion, his record 12 defenses of the SFW stands to this day. Rated as the highest SFW for 5 years from 86-91...yet no mention of him in hypothetical match-ups or great rankings in his own weight class?

Why has he been forgotten or underappreciated? What do you think of him h2h and his overall ranking? Anythoughts or insights you can give me on him would be appreciated!!! What should I watch or look for as I watch more of his fights? Did the death of Morake have a major influence on him as a boxer or a person???

I got another DVD trade going down and am waiting on a bunch of Mitchell DVD's...don't see him on many other lists so I thought I would jump at it!

He was a fine fighter.very neat, tidy technical box-fighter, with top stamina and workrate.Generally an accurate and fundamentally sound stylist.Smart and focused.

Weaknesses?Well he wasn't the most physically gifted fighter around, and didn't like more mobilefighters that boxed too much.Much preferred to matador an aggressive fighter, or have someone who would stay close.He didn't really have any glaring weaknesses..more a good/solid at everything, but not spectactular at anything sort imo.In that way he was similar to his foe Tony Lopez, but cagier and a bit better.

Why is he often forgotten? Well he was a white south African at a fairly low weight, defending a splinter title against 2nd and third rate opposition in their backyards for the most part.He didn't have an eye catching, or exciting enough style for the casual fan.Easy to overlook for all but the hardcore.
