His posts are in the lower half, and are under his name *BRIGGS*, all in capitols.

Its interesting reading postings from a pro HW fighter and read how he responds to criticizm.

He says he'd fight McCline again, and still says Wlad ducks him.

Briggs is an idiot...Wladimir isn't ducking him. Wladimir just doesn't have any reason to fight Briggs.

That's how he reacts to criticism. Insuting his critics and accusing them of being racist. :good

Quite interesting. Briggs appears to think Peter has a glass jaw, that he's WAY older than he says, that Larry Merchant is a racist, and that Wlad is WAY overrated, and is ducking him! :nut

But he seems most interested in promoting his movies and having people go to his strip clubs!

Sultan said Briggs has alot to say , but after the fight he is not going to have anything to talk about. See if he is still talking BS.

I will check that out.

I wonder if he thought a 47 year old George Foreman was overrated too:lol:

He seems extremely immature for a pro fighter. You would expect more from a guy whose in the top 10. What a baby, his fragile ego cant handle insults from some random internet boxing fans.

Say what you like about Briggs, but he's a character. If he was as fun inside the ring as he is outside the ring, he'd be one of the best figures in the sport today.

Mike Tyson, Shannon Briggs, Oliver McCall, Evander Holyfield, George Foreman... The USA certainly provided more than its share of hilarious heavyweights in the 1990s, didn't it?

Of course we'd have to wonder that, but look at his responses. If it was just some asshole trying to get a rise out of people he'd love it when they got going. Once some of them started hating he just said ok and left basically. I mean for real though, how do we KNOW we're really got Ice John Scully and Ding in here. You know these dudes have got to be curious and check this shit out. ESB is def. the top boxing discussion page for hardcore fans. Some of the noobs rollin in and out you never know who they may really be. I heard rumor Manny Steward loves ESB.

Well with Ding, he sometimes tells us about fights he is in negotiation with that haven't even come out to the general public yet. That's a fair indicator.

Ice John Scully is posting personal photos from 20 years ago that aren't on the internet.

I am sure fighters come here all the time. In the cases you asked about though, they are providing info others wouldn't have.

Yeah I know KG. I have no doubts about either Scully or Ding, was only trying to illustrate a point. For the person on that front page article to NOT be BRIGGS, it would have to have been one sick ass nut hugging stalker though. True, he didn't provide pics, but he knew more than most would about BRIGGS.

Yeah, I wonder how he'd react to fans breaking his balls about that OUTRAGEOUS gift decision (one of the worst of the 90s, imo - a true "robbery") he got against Foreman!

He does seem to be one of these guys who has to talk shit and pump himself up because, deep down, he has doubts about how good he is.

Its him. Him promoting his upcoming Stern appearance, when not even asked about it, is pretty telling that its him.

But it being him is not that big a deal. Its merely Shannon Briggs, its not like we are talking about The Pope or Paul McCartney. Its merely Shannon Briggs.

LOL

Y'know, part of me feels a little sorry for Briggs. He brings alot of this ridicule on himself. I think if he was more humble and less of a "trash talker" he wouldn't get so LITTLE respect from the fans. He's an ordinary contender who likes to make out he's better than he is - and people don't like that.

One thing I will say about him though that I DO respect is overcoming asthma to compete in boxing. My wife has asthma, and it's no joke if you have a serious case, believe me.:yep

Yup. "It's only Shannon Briggs, 2 time HW world champion. Been in the ring with Lewis, Foreman, and many other notable fighters." Jesus.

Yes, I do think its commendable that he fights with asthma, but he certainly milks it for all its worth, and lets everyone know that he is fighting with a hinderance his opponent doesn't have.

But I think he hypes himself and does all the cocky trash talking nonsense, merely to try and sell the fight and make it more entertaining. I think he wants to raise emotion in people by running his mouth.

That said, for some fighters it works. Fans DO want to then get the fight to tune in and see if the big mouth can deliver on what he's claiming. But for Briggs, it don't seem to work as well. LOL

I don't think he's a a two time champion. I believe he's only won 1 title, and promptly lost it.

Ask the general public who Shannon Briggs is, and 9.5 out of ten will draw a blank. Its not like Briggs is a world champion that was widely known and in the public eye. Noone knows him outside of boxing fans, and not even all of them know who he is. He didn't win THE undisputed title, and even the part he did win, he lost it in no time.

No prob, guy - I thought it was a little "out of sync" and assumed exactly that. However, while Briggs DOES deserve credit for competing at the world class level, he is really only a "one-time" true "champion."

The second time he won a fractional paper title - which counts for something, but not as much as being a true "two-time champion" like, say, Floyd Patterson.

And, even his claim to the linear belt is somewhat tenuous, given the outrageous nature of the decision that gave him that belt. Among linear titlists, he's right down there at the bottom with guys like Rahman and Marvin Hart.

However - like Briggs is quick to point out - even this is an accomplishment of sorts, and may be more than some of his critics have achieved in their fields.

It took 6 posts before someone inserted a much needed dose of reality into this thread. I'm actually quite impressed because from what I've seen the ESB average is usually about 9 posts before this occurs. Kudos.

P.S. I hate Briggs and I didn't even believe that was him. I could tell by "his" second comment when "he" says, and I quote, " EXPERIENCE SHOULD HAVE TOLD JAMEEL THAT WHEN YOU HURT A GUY THAT BAD YOU GO TO THE JAB TO SET UP THE BIG SHOTS." I was like, "HWHAT!!!" coming from a guy who throws about 2 punches a round. It can't be him."

True again Zakman. I'm not trying to defend Briggs as an ATG by no means, only that if we here on ESB get the opportunity to chat with a "named" fighter, we should't immediately run them off, IMO. I'm sure this stops all kinds of other boxers from trying to hang and let us know what's up with them, because they know some idiots are gonna go bombs away on them (maybe they deserve it: we can be honest with them without being dicks IMO.)
