Leading into the fight, if I'm not mistaken, Lampley said there was no title on the line for the match. If this is the case how could it be scheduled a 12 round fight? Any thoughts please....:deal

He meant it wasn't for a real title. I think it was actually for the WBC international title or some bullshit like that

It happens sometimes when fights are not for titles but they are still negotiated as 12 round fights.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I had been under the impression that the only circumstance permitting 12 round fights was title contest. So if the two teams involved desire 12 rounds they can set it up that way without a title on the line?

No, 12 rounds is for title fights only. This fight was for the WBC international title

Gotcha:good That's what I thought, even if it was just like the NABF or something, there has to be a title involved to allow 12. Thanks BigReg.

It's NOT a title fight, International or otherwise... No one paid any sanctioning fee... The belt was there as mere decoration as what title belts are considered nowadays...

How do you know this?

"So you really wanted to know who’s the sure loser this early?

The World Boxing Council (WBC), who else? All for the simple fact that no official belt will be at stake in Pacquiao-Barrera II.

That goes without saying that the WBC will be deprived of the enormous sanctioning fee.

Barrera earlier lost his WBC super featherweight belt to Juan Manuel Marquez; Pacquiao has his version of the WBC International title.
But it’s clear that dumping the International belt, as the eminent Larry Merchant had always insisted, would not deprive the monumental rematch of excitement and glitter."

I think the WBC international was on the line the last minute. Unlike the "real" title where the sanctioning fee is 3 percent of the purse, the international title is a fixed amount of either 5,000 or 3,000 dollars (not sure which) which is peanuts.
