I think he could theoreticaly overtake Hagler before he retires.

Yes, definitely.

Head to head, I see Hopkins taking Hagler in an exciting fight, prime for prime. In terms of records, Hopkins' record will surpass Hagler with this win.

Is their fight scheduled for 160?.I haven't been paying too much attention to it.

If it's over that then it won't have anything to do with Hagler.

Not sure.

DLH was no Duran, nor was he proven at the weight like Duran.
Wright is no Hearns.
Tito was no Leonard.

X would rank above him with longevity, defences etc

If I'm not mistaken, this is being classified as a light heavyweight bout with a near super middle catch weight.

If Hopkins beats Wright, and you include the win over Tarver, you could argue that Hopkins' resume is better. I don't think you can if you just count their middleweight records.

I'm not arguing about who was better at middleweight, just counting there list of opponents.

I would say yes. Hopkins is a badass.

The fight is at 170.

I favour Hopkins to win it actually. In a pinch. I have Hopkins ahead of Hagler anyway, no disrespect to Marvin.

He is SUPPOSED to beat Wright. ( A natural 175 vs a natural 154)

He's not quite at Hagler's level.

But he is an ATG, win or lose from here on.

Hopkins fought De La Hoya, Trinidad, Jones Jr... Can't compare them to Leonard, Duran, Hearns.
So even he if wins the upcoming fight against Wright, I don't think his resume surpasses Hagler's.

Hopkins is a natural 175 now? After 1992, he came into the majority of his middleweight bouts under 160. He's never struggled to make weight and he rarely got up over 165-168 when he wasn't in training.

I'd bet Hopkins weight in between fights was the same or lower than Winky's when Wright was fighting at 154.

I do think it'd be fair to say that Hopkins is a more natural 175 than Wright though.

Regardless, I think a Wright victory would help Hopkins in a PFP comparison against Hagler combined with the Tarver win, but purely as a middleweight I'd rank Hagler ahead.

I feel like Hopkins gets a little bit of an unfair shake because his biggest wins were over guys who were prime welterweights, but Hopkins did fight guys like Johnson, Echols and Vanderpool who went on to better things at 168 and 175.

NO his level of competition is considerably weaker imo,Hopkins is a very good fighter in an average era,Hagler was a great one in a good era.
