What do people think of this match-up? Bit disappointed to be honest, was hoping to see him matched really tough to go the 12 but that clearly isn't going to happen.

To put it into perspective, Horton got stopped in 2 by Cello Renda in a middleweight match last year - that's the same Renda who's been stopped twice by Paul Samuels, who Groves beat in a round in only his 3rd bout.

Just don't think it's gonna help him knocking these guys over

Nothing wrong in losing to Renda :nono;) Was also the domestic knockout of the year last year IMO.

DeGale will walk it, but its not a bad opponent for his 7th fight.

I think the Groves-Samuels stoppage was a wee bit premature, but, as if the bogus title wasn't enough, a shite opponent as well.

Lets hope Gavin doesn't get the same treatment; he doesn't need to be protected :deal

he's not terrible and he's prob just below Domestic Title standard so why not?

Very good fight. Hortan is decent and at a goof level but obviously noy in the class of DeGale. Hopefully another impressive performance will set him up for a domestic title fight.

Hopefully he goes for the British and not afrobum title.

I don't think Horton will last too long but he isn't a bad fighter and will give it a go for as long as he's in there.

Why not match him with Renda and give him the payday??, lord knows he's earned it, this is a garbage match up, Horton was very novice like against Renda and has no power to speak of.

Nathan King was a much better opponent 2 fights ago, backwards step for sure despite the mickey mouse belt up for grabs.

Smith is so shit he managed to have two stinkers with guys who respectively had domestic fight of the year with each other.

With a good gameplan, Degale can probably beat him. And I'm not particularly big on Degale.

If there wasn't a ''title'' on the line it would be a half decent match on paper.

That said, why not stick DeGale in with Renda - or was he badly cut last time against Samuels?

Beating a guy that's been beaten by Renda.... whos been beaten by Samuels twice.... who in turn was stopped in a round by Groves - :think - could probably be better.

Granted him and Groves are at different stages despite a similar number of fights, not the greatest comparison to make on reflection. Same with Gavin.

Horton's not a bad fighter. Looked a decent boxer that wants to scrap alot but his chin lets him down. Good fight for degale

DeGale would embarrass Smith and probably stop him mid way. Great fight to make though.

I have seen an interview that said they were good friends and were unlikely to fight each other so i dont think a Degale Smith matchup is near anytime soon the again ......."He's chunky, he ch-un-ky"

yeah i heard this too. End of the day degale needs to worry about other things rather than fighting smith right now, plus smith wouldn't fight him, it would be a giant step backward, regardless of whether people think he wuold get beat.

And DeGale is still far far far superior to Smith.

It is a fight for a title with the words 'WBA' next to them.

Could FW be planning for James to be parachuted into a WBA Ordinary belt fight vs Dimitri Sartison later in the year?

if he is even considering that, then he doesn't give much of a shit about degales future.
He is being moved along far too quickly. great amateur or not, pro's are sdifferent, and ok, he has had power to get rid of some people so far, but basic fundamentals are lacking from his game at the moment. slaps far too much. He ain't that quick, and he has not been tested against someone who could potentially put him on his arse.
I can see him coming a cropper tbh, maybe not against horton.
The best thing right now, would be to put him in with groves end of

Decent fight. This is English title level.

It is a good fight on paper but Horton's ko ratio is poor. These amateurs go from regularly fighting the best in the world to your average joes. It does not help them at all. These guys need to be tested earlier or scared into improving.

Khan and Haye were not true world class before losing. Post losing they were true world class as it made them have to re-evalute their game.

This is a decent match up. If Horton fights sensibly; not like he did against Renda then he should last a few rounds but Degale will be far too good for him and he would beat Smith and any of the other British SMW's (except Froch, Magee and maybe Groves) at the moment.

Still think he's a prick though

Should be a decent fight in JDG's favour
