finally after 8 years, someone has the balls to unify, i thought it would be wlad, but he proved me wrong, he gets a hard on when michael buffer calls him the 'IBF HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION of the world' he is happy being a belt holder.

Chagaev-Ibragimov will hopefully put pressure on other belt holders (Wladimir, Oleg/Samuel/Vitali) to unify.

This is amazing news. I can't believe it. And this news is on the SAME day that Mayweather agrees to fight Hatton. WOW. Wlad will definitely fight the winner...this is awesome.

On the contrary, I'm hoping this fight will instill the winner with the confidence to fight Wald :yep

I'll personally take Chagaev by UD and likely will KD Ibragimov.

You never seem to miss an opportunity to bash a Klitschko do you?

Let's all just be happy that 2 of the 4 are finally going to get it on and narrow down the playing field a bit.

Can we at least agree on that much?

The winner of that fight will be -the- HW champion of the world, all credentials aside which put Wlad on top, in the end it's about who holds the championship, and 2 > 1.

I'd have them about even but let's put all that aside, anyunification is better than none - period.

I knew with King gone unification had a better chance of happening, I just didn't think it would be this fast. props to Ruslan and Sultan for not taking the valuev rout and take on a bunch of tomato cans as defenses.

You have to admit though, that the winner would be NO.1 HW.

Unless it's a terrible and dull fight that ends in a draw!!

that wouldn't be good:-(

Is this confirmed already? When and where is it happening? :think

I'm with Chagaev if it ever happens.

When the "Russian Heavyweight Unification Tournment" is completed, every
letter in the alphabet will have been used on the fight posters.

They're fighting in Moscow apparently. Should be a good fight, another heavyweight title fight in Russia, and a unification at that! The pro boxing scene in Russia might be starting to pick up.

The winner of this fight deserves to ATLEAST be ranked no 2 heavyweight in the world. I mean, seriously.. I realize Sam Peter is supposed to be the " heavyweight of our dreams " but in reality the guy so far has done nothing to earn the status of #2 heavyweight in the world. He hasn't even won a major belt yet, and even then if he beats Maskaev, the winner of Ibragimov/Chagaev would still deserve to take his spot. Hell, I could argue that Chagaev at this very moment deserves to have Peter's spot on the rankings.

Chagaev - defeated contenders Virchis and Ruiz, WBA champion Valuev, currently holds the WBA title, and is currently undefeated.

Peter - barely decisions Toney the first time, and convincly defeats him a second time.

People say Wlad and Peter are numbers 1 and 2 in the division right now, yet Chagaev is miles ahead of Peter as far as accomplishments go, and he's pretty fucking close to surpassing Klitschko in accomplishments as well.

On a random note, Is Sultan an ethnic Russian?

Not sure, honestly. A friend told me once-I don't believe he is, though. I want to say he's from Dagestan, maybe I'm wrong though; from all I've heard though he considers himself Russian, he fought for Russia in the Olympics.

I know he's from Dagastan and the Olympics stuff but is he an ethnic Russian? Just wondering this because the biggest fight in modern Russian history with two non ethnic Russians in Moscow would really piss off the skinheads.

Yeah, finally, after 8 years, a business man has the balls to make this fight.

I don't care if it's unification, for me this fight is important because it involves two Top5 conteders. The winner will be #1 or #2.

Besides finally being a HW unification bout, Chagaev-Sultan is actually a pretty good match-up. Hard to pick a winner at this point as I can picture either guy taking it. I wouldn't consider the winner of this bout the true hw champ, but they would clearly put themselves along Wlad and Peter( if he beats Oleg like he should), as the top 3 guys in the division and any future bout involving those 3 would give you the first true hw champ since Lewis. I suppose you could count Vitaly but there is a lot of opposition to that idea where I think any match between the combination of Wlad, Peter(if he has a belt), and the Chagaev-Sultan winner would most likely produce an accepted champion. Good to see this fight happening.

Its very refreshing to see two non American , well conditioned committed , hungry heavyweights fresh off title wins ready to unify..

Ruslin and Sultan are two very respectful boxers who love competition and use the gifts (even if they aren't the finest ever) that they posess to try to grasp a better life for themselves.

I haven't seen heavyweights this hungry since Tyson in 1987..

Ruslan is a good fighter but come on........Let's see

Chagaev = One-time title holder and 0 title defenses
Wlad = Two-time title holder and SEVEN IBF/WBO title defenses and regarded as the current #1 hw by every objective ranking system

He's got a ways to go my friend :yep

I'm still really worried about this fight in that...I want to hear some confirmation that HBO or Showtime is going to pick it up for broadcast in the USA. It would be a disgrace to the sport if this was left to some 3rd party PPV.

No, the winner of this fight will still be A HW champion, not THE HW champion.

This isn't p4p....until one of these guys beats Wladamir Klitscho, he is the #1 HW in the world.

Unification would involve Klitschko BF, Chagaev BA, and Maskaev BA.
It should involve the BO Inragimov as well, IMO.

Dont worry, they'll be another mis-mandatory like the Byrd vs Brock winner or some other to FUCK THINGS UP AS ALWAYS.

Chagaev vs Ibragimov is a step in the right direction BUT IS NOT UNIFICATION:good
