There are many here who say that Peter doesn't have very impressive power, nor a very good chin. His stamina is apparently terrible as well. And it's obvious to everyone that the man has little skill (I happen to agree with this last one).

So if Peter is that bad, how did he beat Toney twice and McCline?

In the second Toney fight, he was able to win because Toney was getting older and because he used his height and reach advantage, keeping a distance, using the jab, and counter punching.

In the McCline fight, he won because of his heart, recuperative powers, ability to keep his composure, aggression, and his jab.


For a guy 6-1 and 250 pounds, he's not fat and he does seem to have pretty good stamina. He's not the most skilled guy around, but he does have skills.

Those people are usually morons, who make assumptions on one fight. After Peter knocks somebody out and takes some good shots, I gurantee this fight will be forgotten. In most of his career, he has shown a lot of power and a great chin. one fight does not change that.

He still has one punch nkockout power, yet lacks the skill to apply it. I have't seen him land a sweet shot on anyone flush in a long time.

I stil think his chin is very good too. I don't know what happened against McCline, but I'm guessing he got caught with a shot which totally messed up his equilibrium. I don't ever think he was hurt per se, just out of it. Maybe it was because he was his on the bell, and totally wasn't expecting it, I don't know.

I'm not a fan, but he will be back and he wil show he has some excellent raw attributes. Chin, power and physical strength. Why none of these weren't shown against McCline, I don't know, but they haven't dissapeared.

Good assesment. But can we all stop bringing the 2nd Toney fight. Toney is not a player in the HW and will never be. Danny Batchelder beat Toney for god sake.

The second Toney fight was his best performance, but I don't use it as much of a measuring stick when analyzing how he would do against the top heavyweights.

Some "fans" on this board are overreacting to his loss, just like they overreact to someone else's win. Peter might not be as good as some of his supporters have said, but he's not as bad as people are saying now.

Batchelder lost just like Toney lost the 1st time against Peter - on paper. Actually Toney won that fight fair. Batchelder did make it closer with he’s running and all but in the end Toney was a clear winner. I don’t know how someone can score that fight to Batchelder.

Well, he doesn't really have very impressive power or a very impressive chin, but he has fairly impressive power, a fairly impressive chin, is physically strong and commanding, and has heart, and he gets away with a ludicrous amount of fouling and gets favoritism from the judges. Plus Toney and McCline were 37-38 years old, a fat 5'9" over-the-hill ex-middleweight in Toney's case, and a battered old warhorse who was never especially great in McCline's case.
