This was the greatest fight ever at Jr, Flyweight:

"Barely more than 100 pounds apiece, they slugged it out for seven spectacular rounds before Michael Carbajal, the WBC light flyweight and IBF junior flyweight champion from Phoenix, knocked out the challenger, Humberto (Chiquita) Gonzalez of Ciudad Neza, Mexico."

It was voted fight of the year...the rematch resulted in the first million dollar fight at flyweight.

Just wanted to share this epic interpretation by Blue Mercury with the ESB community.

It was exciting. Carbajal is an underrated fighter. Great heart and nice power. It is funny, he was always compared to Duran, but he fought more like Hearns. He would get in wars when he didn't have to and then be all banged up at the end of fights. A warrior! Had he just jabbed he would have beaten everyone. He is a great fighter!! I like Carbajal. I think he should go down better than Gonzales.

However in the rematch Gonzalez outboxed him... he won but I was in a bar full of pissed off Mexicans it was clear that he lost some credibility for boxing Carbajal. He should have done a No Mas

He should have done a No MasI remember that, and he did it in the 3rd fight also. He knew that in the first fight he knocked Carbajal down and still Carbajal came back and stopped him. I was surprised Gonzales outboxed Michael two times. I still like Michael over Gonzales. But yeah the 2 fights after mean something. I saw them both at the same time at the Hall of Fame in 2003 in Los Angeles or rather Commerce Casino.

I used to go watch PPV fights at the commerce casino about three years ago.

I used to go watch PPV fights at the commerce casino about three years ago.did you? Cool place. They had the Hof there for a few years and it moved back to the area near LAX. It was far to get there like 70 miles from me now. One cool guy I met was Pat Lawlor (who fought Duran twice) When you pose for a picture with him, he has you put your fist to his chin and he looks like he is crunching up his face with a punch. Pretty cool guy.

Irish Pat was a cool character... I recommend the Casino as a place to watch a fight if you live in the area. Show up early and enjoy the drink specials.
