Whitaker would win pretty handily i think. Camacho does nothing better than him, including inside fighting.

Whitaker by wide UD. Camacho had all the speed and talent in the world, but the skill and intelligence differance would be the story of the fight. Pea would keep that brilliant southpaw jab in Camacho's face all night, and outbox him every round.

Well Camacho certainly had faster hands, but it wouldnt matter.

you really dont think camachos faster hands, consistant jab and lighting combinations would have affected Whitaker?

No. Because Pea was hardly slow himself, and his jab would throw off Hector very early and make it difficult for Camacho to get off. I can see Camacho being competitive for the first 3-4 rounds, but by the mid rounds Pea would have him completely figured out and wouldnt look back.

BTW - I remember hearing that Pea used to kick Camacho's ass in sparring.

I could see a prime Camacho giving FLOYD a tough fight, but I really cant see him doing much w/Sweet Pea.

Another tossup in the truest sense of the word. Somebody else said it best- this would be like watching two eels fight.

I can't decide. Too tough to call. I'll just say this one ends in a draw.

A good jab and timing beats speed. Whitaker had one of the best jabs ever and great timing. His jab would throw Camacho off-balance and out of his rythm and set up Pea´s own combinations. Very clear UD for Whitaker. Something like 9-3.

I heard Pea did so when he was still an amateur. Never saw prove for this though.

I've heard that too. I've also heard it was the other way around.

Whitaker was greater. He could get to a higher level and had the skills to win fights any way he wanted. Camacho had great speed and looked dazzling, but he did not have the defensive skills of a Whitaker. Whitaker is ATG and Camacho is not.

I am not surprised by the overwhelming result so far in Whitaker's favor, but have a hard time figuring out why Camacho is made to be light years away from Whitaker's level.

I would lean towards Whitaker in a very close decision, but don't see the blowout many would indicate

I think Sweet Pea would have took it but an in shape Camacho was a excellent fighter when in shape

agreed. don't know how close it would be as i think pea would pull away in the championship rounds from a very frustrated camacho but it would be a tough, tough fighter for pernell

Whitaker rates much higher but H2H I think Camacho gives Whitaker problems. A prime Camacho was faster than Whitaker and just as hard to hit. Both southpaws. Both men were very durable and well conditioned. Each fighters "tale of the tape" is almost identical to the others.

Sweet Pea went 40-4-1 (17) 1NC overall and he was stopped once, LKOby4 Carlos Bojorquez in his last fight. He went 19-3-1 in World Title Fights. He was the IBF, WBA, and WBC LW Champ, IBF JWW, WBC WW, and WBA JMW Champ.

Camacho went 79-5-3 (thirtyeight KOs) overall and he was never stopped. He went 9-4 in World Title Fights. He was WBC LW and WBO JWW Champ.

They both fought:

Jose Luis Ramirez-
Camacho W12 1985
Whitaker L12 1988 (questionable loss), W12 in 1989

Greg Haugen-
-Whitaker W12 in 1989
-Camacho L12 and W12 in 1991

Camacho lost a point prior to the 12th round of their first fight and it cost him the fight. I think the point loss was bullshlt! It was later ruled a NC because Haugen tested positive for marijuana. For some reason it was changed back to a win for Haugen but the WBO belt was stripped. CRAZY!

Camacho avenged the loss by winning a decision 3 months later.

Julio Cesar Chavez-
-Whitaker D12 in 1993 (questionable)
-Camacho L12 in 1992

-Whitaker L12 DeLahoya was close
-Camacho L12 DeLahoya was not

-Neither man did well vs. Trinidad, both lost decisions.

So...

Whitaker vs. Camacho

If they fought 3 times I think Whitaker would win twice. Every fight would be close and Camacho would look perfect in the fight he wins... but we all know Camacho couldn't do something like that 3 times.

Whitaker W12 most nights.

i think the distinction needs to be made pre-rosario camacho or post. i think we're assuming pre but they are two completely different fighters
