I have notice that Sam Peter is one of the most hated boxers at ESB....the guy has great power no doubt, he is green in terms of boxing years, and has accomplished , IMO, a lot with his limited but improving boxing skills..yet he is hated...people totally disrespect his accomplishments, this guy hang with Vlad Klitshcko for 12 rounds and drop him 3 times, took the best that Vlad had in the 12 rounds and keep going....fought a master boxer in James Toney and beat him, twice...he has only one lost, against Vlad..a close desicion lost...got caught by a 270 lbs HW got up the canvas 3 times and won....so what else do you want from the guy....he is only 27, the youngest HW in the top 10 rankings in the HW....so what do you want....Let the guy alone....

I think its just retribution from the stupid ass hype we had to keep hearing about him over the past couple years.

It seems like at one time everybody drank the kool-aid, now he do't look so good they mad...
I agree with that Orishaman. I have yet to see the fight against McCline, but I still like Peter and hope he does well.

Yeah, a lot of people really dislike him. To the point where he may be UNDERRATED. Quite a few have said "anybody with boxing skills wins a wide decision over Peter."

His power doesn't "suck." He has power, but he just lacks the snap, accuracy, or combinations to knock out most top contenders.

He's not an A level fighter by any stretch of the imagination, but he does throw decently straight punches now. He's improved the jab especially.

Yeah, I don't get it either, O-man. Along comes a power-punching HW who's blowing people away, and boxing fans seemed to WANT him to fail. :nut Like they don't understand that the success of a guy like Peter could do wonders for the sport's popularity if he were to become a dominant champ.
And let them say what they will - as you've pointed out, Peter is still young. He may have hit a bump in the road, but if he goes out and has an impressive performance in his next fight, the critics will be eating their words. What I don't get is why there are so many critics - Peter is exactly the kind of fighter this sport needs!

I don't hate Peter, in fact, I'm pretty indifferent about him. I just think he's a lousy fighter, does that make me a hater?
-his win over James Toney signaled the end of Toney's career. What has Toney done since then?
-Wlad Klitschko two years ago was a completely different boxer than he is today. In fact, two years ago, Wlad was considered a bust for whom many analysts were suggesting retirement. The Wlad Klitschko that won a unanimous decision over Sam Peter was only two fights removed from having won a close decision over Davarryl Williamson. What's TOS doing these days?
-Sam Peter got clocked and managed to get-up and win a decision, that's admirable. But, don't get it twisted Jameel McCline never was and never will be a big hitter. Chris Byrd went toe-to-toe with this guy.
So you're a Sam Peter fan. There's nothing wrong with that. Does he have to be a top contender for you to appreciate him? If that's the case, then most of Peter's fans are pretty fair-weather.

People hate on him because he failed
... failed to be invincilble nightmare who could survive the divsion.
He become next overhyped fighter who is gonna fail even more very soon.
He got lifetime gift becoming iterim WBC champion for free.
He stands just punching chances against Wlad, any other boxer
with good stamina and decent punch may be able to test his chin.

I have notice that Sam Peter is one of the most hated boxers at ESB.... :| Bullshit. There are many boxers who are irrationally hated on ESB more than SP - K bros, Lewis, Hatton, Oscar dl H, Calzaghe, etc.
the guy has great power no doubt, he is green in terms of boxing years, and has accomplished , IMO, a lot with his limited but improving boxing skills..yet he is hated...people totally disrespect his accomplishments,Agian you can say that about many members posts about other fghters.
this guy hang with Vlad Klitshcko for 12 rounds and drop him 3 times, took the best that Vlad had in the 12 rounds and keep going....Same thing Jameel "I fold up big time" McCline did to your boy. He dropped Sam 3X, and kept going
fought a master boxer in James Toney and beat him, twice...Now I know you're drining the kool aid. SP's performances in the 2 JT fights was the beginning of me starting to question his ability. JT was past it as a fighter by then. Hell if JT had any discipline he'd be fighting as a CW, not a tub of goo HW.
has only one lost, against Vlad..a close desicion lost...got caught by a 270 lbs HW got up the canvas 3 times and won....so what else do you want from the guy....he is only 27, the youngest HW in the top 10 rankings in the HW....so what do you want....Let the guy alone....Leave him alone? This is a site where fighters with far more accomplishments than SP are routinely ridiculed as: gay, cowards, not "stepping" up or avoiding the "top" comp (as if a fighter controls the crooked boxing business), etc :nut When a guy is rated as high as #2 and hyped as a 250# Tyson, but has failed to have KO'd an opponent with bigger names than J Williams or T Sykes... I'd say the "hate" he has recieved so far has been limited and within reason. :think Certainly by ESB "standards".

Well there are several reasons to it.
#1. He was claimed to be the most devastating puncher "The Nigerian Nightmare" but as he stepped up in class, its clear to see that his power is really overrated. He has good power but not devastating power
#2 His chin was claimed to be granite, but he was down 3 times against not a knockout artist Jameel Mccline, another aspect where he was overrated
#3 He uses illegal punches and he showed it yet again agaist Mccline. Punches behind the head are his trademark weapon but he also likes to punch low as well.
#4 His arrogance. He claims to be the #1 heavyweight and acts as if he won the belt 10 fights ago.
#5 He was claimed to be an exciting fighter but his latest fights have in fact been rather boring.

He makes BRewster look like a tactician
 It's funny cause its true. I actually think the two boxers have very similar attributes and Peter's demise will be very similar to Brewster's. Good power is not enough to sustain a belt for a very long time, even in a sub-par division. His physique and conditioning are not exactly awe inspiring either. And albeit he was not to blame for it, the way he received the strap around his waist was extremely anti-climactic, to the point that I would be delighted had he lost it (and almost did) against McCline.

So many posters here were hailing him as the next undefeated champion of the world, when in fact he was always a crude and very limited fighter. I have never seen someone with such poor boxing skills build up such a fanbase. What has pissed me off is how many people rated him as #2, when there is someone like Chagaev who has clearly achieved much more than what he has. I am thankful that Mcline put an end to this.

1. He talks total shite in interviews, about god etc.
2. He acted like a dick right after sparking out Williams.
3. He got at least one gift decision against Toney.
4. He's a very dirty fighter.
5. He makes bullhsit excuses, like saying his hands were broken and that's why he got decked 3 times.

I happened to be at the Peter fight and sat behind the media section. I booed the decision but when I watched it again I gave it to Peter, but not by much because I thought a few rounds were pretty even. I didn't care who won but I have to give McCline some credit. McBride is the guy that impressed me because he fought so hard I thought he could have taken on either MCline or Peter. It seems Peter is a "B" level fighter, and he will always be "B" level. He's strong, tough, decent chin, but has limited skills and movement. And he'll never have any significant fan base.

I think part of the reason he is unpopular is that many see a lot of potential, which he hasn't totally lived up to yet. People want results, and they want them fast, regardless of whether it's right or wrong. People also want clarity in the heavyweight division, and at this juncture, Peter hasn't really helped as a fresh new light. Moreover, people are looking for increased polish from him because of the experience he gained with the Toney and Klitschko fights, but more than anything, he appeared to regress in the McCline fight. The only positive out of the McCline fight is that he faced severe adversity by rising from the canvas to win a controversial decision. Technically speaking, we didn't see any evolution in his style and craft.
