McCall Gomez

Just watched McCall - Gomez 1, I didn't come away with the impression that McCall was shut out at all- I think he failed to let his hands go and accordingly lost- but I agreed with one of the judges who had it 96-94 in favor of Gomez.

Several of the rounds McCall succesfully walked Gomez down and devliered powershot after powershot. He only got that sweet right hand in a couple times, but you could tell from Gomez' expression that he did not like it at all.

Does anyone know if their bout is scheduled for 10 or 12 rounds?

I think a 10 rounder is even money for the two heavyweights, but it's McCalls fight to win or lose, Gomez showed what he can do, which is get off quick 3 and 4 punch combinations of McCall, but he doesn't have the power to gain any respect from him. If McCall learns from his mastkes in the first fight and keeps throwing, Gomez will not have an oppurtunity to win rounds.

On the other hand, if it's a 12 round bout, I would favor McCall to knock Gomez out in the 11th or 12th.
In the 9th and 10th round of the first fight Gomez had his hands by his waist and ran after the first 30 seconds of the rounds, I assume because he was very tired and knew he had the early rounds in the bag, but he was still taking dangerous punches and I doubt that was his intention.

I hope Mccall could pull this one out, the man really deserves a chance at the title.

well, if he wins he deserves a chance at the title... it would certainly make a great story if he got that far

Gomez easily outpointed the slow and one-dimensional American vet in their first encounter.However,he ran out of gas in the later rounds.McCall was able to win those later rounds so that their outcome was close as it should have been if Gomez had properly trained for that fight.
To be honest I was shocked how easily Gomez dominated and outpointed McCall within the first 5-6 rounds.
McCall is a shot fighter.Yes,he beat the very slow Turk Sinan Samil Sam in his backyard,but Sinan Sam was tailor made for him.
Gomez's style is totally wrong for McCall.It all depends on Gomez's stamina IMO.
McCall doesnt have the skills or the weapons to win this upcomming bout.
Gomez can only beat himself.I very much hope that his stamina wont let him down.
Gomez is the much better fighter of this pair.Gomez by wide point decision.
