I think the fight is off, but I'd pick Ruiz to decision Liak.

Ruiz for a few reasons, for one I think Sergei is still gun shy and two I think Ruiz has the style to give anyone trouble in the ring. I also think Don King will do what he can if it goes to the scorecards, Im perdicting Ruiz by late round TKO.

As long as the rules are properly enforced against that cheater, Lyakhovich will win, probably by TKO.

Thanks for the votes so far.
I voted for Liakhovich because he has excellent infighting skills which he used to beat Guinn as well as Brewster.
I certainly don't think Ruiz is a better skilled boxer than Guinn or a more powerful boxer than Brewster so I can't see Ruiz doing his usual jab & grab style to win.
I think he'll try to hug & hold as he usually does but he'll find that being inside against a fighter who thrives there will work against him. See Ruiz vs. Toney. No, Liakhovich is no James Toney when it comes to defense but Toney is no Sergei when it comes to power.

I recall we all thought that Golota would quite easily take Ruiz out, and once Ruiz started his apply overwhelming style, Golota became lost in the storm of arms and hugs. LOL

I think Ruiz would be too overwhelming and physical for Liakhovitch, who is not a real powerful guy, in my opinion. Liakhovitch is not strong enough to deal with the very physical Ruiz.
That lunge, and land the clubbing right on the way in, then clinch.........then step back, and repeat.........that is hard to deal with, and that clubbing right hand would land on Liakhovitch, over and over again.

Ruiz by dreary decision.

It doesnt seem that Liakhovich wants to fight Ruiz, at this point in Liakhovich's career he can hardly afford another awful performace like his last one. A year ago, Liakhovich was a champion who had a lot of people thinking (including me) that he had the best shot to beat Wladimir Klitchko. Now he is an ex-champion who hasn't fought in nearly a year, and is apparently scared to fight John Ruiz.:-(

I see your point but Sergei does use some good defensive head movement early in fights and he has a better jab as well as that old school lead right to the body.
It's a good matchup that I'd like to see and I don't blame Sergei for wanting to fight Valuev for the eliminator either as long as that's true.
IMO Ruiz wins by UD. I still think the White Wolf is gun shy after the briggs fight. Seems like the fight will be in court...not the ring....TYPICAL!!!!

I don't think Sergei is scared on John Ruiz do you?
He may be afraid to risk his high ranking to fight a guy ranked below him for no gain in the rankings...................especially when he may have a deal to fight an eliminator against Valuev.
Let's face it, no one looks good fighting Ruiz except maybe Tua :yep and few would give him credit for beating that has-been/almost-was anyway. I think that's the business side of it.
I mean, how can a guy who fought an intimidating looking Briggs be AFRAID of Ruiz?

Yes he is...we know where this is going. F-ing King:twisted: (just look at the Peter/McCline fight)

You could be right but if Sergei is gun shy, he's done anyway. You can't fight the current HW's being gun shy and Ruiz has below average power when compared to the rest of the top ten.
Sergei will have to face Klitschko, Chagaev, Ibragimov, Maskaev or Peter to unify & some of the newer contenders like Povetkin, Solis, Chambers & Arreola and all of those guys hit harder than John Ruiz IMO.
I would personally rather fight Ruiz than Valuev for instance wouldn't you?

I finally got to see that fight & a draw or a one point win either way would have been justified but those judges cards were filled out before the fighters fought IMO.

It's not just Don King either, Duva is a douche bag also when it comes to Peter. Sam is his pet project.

Ruiz discovered he has a pretty good uppercut too. so when he gets caught inside and can't grab he can use it to get out

The poll is very close so far....................I knew it would be & that's why this is a good matchup. Now if the WBA would make the winner the mandatory for Chagaev we might have a good fight to look forward to....................

Dead even poll so far...................
It took awhile for some posters to vote for Ruiz by KO or TKO but here we are completely even.

Without King to work his "magic," Ruiz is shit out of luck.
Notice he hasn't "won" a fight since King dumped him??:yep

He has only fought one fight since then, against Chagaev, it was a pretty good fight (as fas as Ruiz fights go).

How did this so call glorified club fighter make it competitive against WBA champ chagaev? He actually put better fight than Valuev against him.
If Ruiz cannot win without kings help why he wasn’t destroyed out there like any other regional fighter would?

Styles don't match up well for Chagaev there. He is a defensive guy who picks (very selectively) his punches. He can be outworked. So yea, I am saying a talentless club fighter who throws in volume may keep it close with him. Sorta like what Sam Solimon did to Winky Wright, granted that is an extreme example.

I though Ruiz did pretty well against Chagaev, legitily i might add. His holding only started from rounds 8 when he seemed to tire.
Overal he's much more proven than Liakhovic, who had one great fight and performance against Brewster, but outside of that not all that much. I think Ruiz will win a UD.

Sergei did beat Guinn and on the inside where Guinn usually shines.

Yeah but he also got knocked out by Maurice Harris if i'm not mistaken, and by Briggs. While he was somewhat unlucky against Briggs, it was again his lack of survival instinct that cost him against Briggs just like it nearly did against Brewster. I was not suprised by his performance against Briggs and he was only a few points behind in that last round, he may well have lost the fight had he suffered 2 knockdowns in the last round but making it to the final bell. Ibragimov, for instance, won 11 out of 12 rounds against Briggs.
