I say all of the above
well he deserves it IMO, and i'm not even a fan. he may have had an off night. we will see if there is a rematch. i think without question he is still the best 155 in the world.

I think when a guy has defended his title as many times as Penn has, he's earned the right to an immediate rematch.

could have gone either way, penn has dominated his division so deserves an immediate rematch after how close the fight was, also, the ufc may be hesitant to make a lw ppv without bj penn headlining

Penn won that fight..
That was the weakest way to win a belt ever.

BJ said on his website in a blog that he spoke with the UFC and that the Edgar rematch is in the works right now, but it's not finalized. Chances are, he's going to get it.
BJ deserves to get an immediate rematch, especially in a fight that didn't end decisively and was close. If GSP or Silva got upset in a close fight, they'd all want rematches too I'd assume.

if this is true then BJ is getting the belt back. I feel its not going the distance this time.

BJ is still wearing sunglasses in every video blog, his eyes must be fucked up. Was it only me that noticed redness and swelling under his eyes prior to the fight?

I just got a quick question for any of you...
I've seen some people talking about how BJ look just before the fight, am I the only one that felt something was wrong like in the Machida VS Shogun fight ?
If you check after the ring entrance of Machida, he talk to the ref and something seems to bother him, he doesn't look prepare at all for that fight and suprisingly, it end almost the same way... !

All of the above and possibly to ne5ville.
I did notice that with machida though, i wasn't sure if the ref was just cool with him or not.

Because Penn is the most dominant Lightweight Champion ever, it was a major upset and he barley lost. Edgar won the fight simply by outworking him all the clean punches I seen where landed by Penn.

Because the defeated champion should always deserve a rematch.

Really ? Did you wanna see Machida-Evans II ? or a Couture and Sylvia rematch ? Most of the time im for a rematch especially if the Champion was dominant and the fight was close but not if the fight was a one sided drubbing. Obviously not the case here IMO Penn edged it although he didnt exactly go all out to keep his title.

BJ is a legend who lost a close fight while looking off his game, injured knee, ill and not in the best shape. He certainly deseves an immediate rematch. I like that the UFC makes fighters earn rematches but this is not one of those cases just like Shogun vs Machida is not one of those cases.

BJ fought like a dumbarse and got his arse kicked.
They are worried that someone else would beat Edgar and BJ gets the most shine back by being the next guy who beats Edgar.
However a Edgar vs Diego Sanchez fight would have been an intriguing match up, that the UFC have now fucked up.

Put Edgar in with Maynard and he could lose! Bj makes the most sense.

Penn's getting a rematch because it was a close competitive fight. He's also one of the most bankable fighters the UFC has.

I'm not a penn fan after the excuses he made when he lost to GSP, but watching the edgar fight I gave the nod to penn, and he did not look like he was 100%.
I'm pretty sure he's gonna take the rematch without going to decision.

Dude, it was a close fight that either guy could have won. If you think it was a clear victory for either guy then you're a giant nuthugger.
The best reason why Penn gets a rematch and Sylvia didn't (or example) is nothing more than $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Penn is a much more marketable fighter than Edgar, just like Couture is more marketable than Sylvia.

Or that people would rather see a rematch of a close fight instead of one where it was a 25 minute raping.

It was such a close fight and it could of went to either man to be fair. This is just like Machida & Rua fight.
BJ will win the rematch though I am not convinced it will be in style.

Never realised that Rampage threw 2 blatent punches at Silva while he was out and the ref was holding him back.

As the former champion - Penn deserves an immediate rematch.

I voted because BJ is MMA royalty, however, I think it probabley had something to do with all of the above.

How does Sanchez deserve a shot at the title after getting his ass handed to him in his last fight?!

I think it's a bit unfair on Edgar tbh. He has to beat BJ Penn twice in order to be the champ effectively. I think the better idea would have been to put Edgar in against Gray Maynard or Kenny Florian, then after BJ fights someone else in the meantime then gets his shot at a later date.
That said I can definitely see why they are giving Penn the immediate rematch. He's a superstar for starters and he looked like shit in the fight, so obviously they want to see Penn at his best.
