He is over rated but doesn't suck. Berrio isn't that flash either though. Any of the top three at SMW would beat Bute IMO. Mundine would be a close fight, but he would be to quick for Bute, and just too good defensively.

Berrio and Mundine are very chinny.

Berrio and Mundine are very chinny.
Mundine's defence is also easilly 3 x that of Berrio's, hence why guys who could hit like Green, Kessler and Echols have been unable to find it... while perhaps the lightest hitting super middleweight of all time managed to do it.
I'd tip Mundine over Bute in a decent scrap, whereas at the moment I'd also tip Kessler and Calzaghe quite easilly over him...
He's still number 4 in the division in my eyes.

while i can't see bute beating calzaghe or kessler, that doesn't mean he sucks.
in fact he is a top quality fighter, but to me he simply doesn't match up well with kessler who i believe will be the king at 168 soon.
if calzaghe wins there is nothing to debate as the old warrior will move up to 175 for a big pay day before retiring. can't keep fighting the new lions on the block forever.
but bute isn't crap by any means
He's nothing too special, but he will knock out glass chinned Berrio.

great handpeed tall throws alot of punches and really knows how to box and move...he is a boxer not a fighter and will beat berrio becuase of that.
berrio is going to get bitchslapped is what im going to say.
he has no bad things about him and looks amazing in the ring...dont knock that
Nah...he's one of the better fighters at 168 which has a tonne of depth atm :smoke

Butte handled a very difficult Bika very well for a short timer in the pro ranks. He's still improving, and seems to have potential to be a top player in the tough 168 lb division.
Butte doesn't suck, but Peter Manfredo does.

looking forward to see bute when he really gets pressured.
I think he is #3 or #4 in SMW. Maybe I'm wrong. But something tells me not to completely underestimate Bute.

He's a good fighter, but imo he's overrated.
I'd have him fourth at 168 atm. Not bad though considering the division has a fair bit of talent in it.

overated is used so much...over appreciation i think is the best term.

How do you overrate an unbeaten Boxer? could you at least wait for his first defeat?:patsch

How do you overrate an unbeaten Boxer? Quite easily. In fact it's much easier to overrate an unbeaten boxer than one who has a loss next to his name.
If you think about it, I'm sure you can see it. :p

While i find him a bit overrated here Bute doesn't suck. He's an exciting fighter that will give anyone at 168 hell.

He's a very good fighter in a deep division. Anybody know his amatuer record? I'm curious.
Maxime

Bute had over 250 amateur fights with about 15 losses.

:yep not a half bad record
anybody who claims that Bute sucks needs to get there head checked..common the lad has 20 pro fights and still learning and getting better every fight. He did very well against Bika, i'd say possibly better than Joe did. Bika would make every top 10 fighter look foolish. He is surely # 3 or 4 in quite possibly the best division. Out of the top 20 smws, he is the one who started his pro carrer last (2003). Indeed not a brawler and maybe less exciting than a ''Jeff Lacy'' type fighter, Lucian is a skillfull, patient and a smart boxer. His handlers have chosen the right path for him and he is at the verge of holding his first major belt (grant you that IBF is not the best belt to have). As for being over-rated, I dont think many people around here say that Bute is the best in the division, BUT he does have the potential to become a great smw fighter. His #3 or 4 spot is fair in the rankings. Calzaghe and Kessler are in a league of ther own, mundine and Inkin would be a toss-up but Bute beats Lacy, Froch, and Berrio. Some fighters with 30 + fights under there belt might give Lucian a hard time in the ring but to Bute's credit, he does have the great ability to adapt during a fight which is a good sign for a futur champion. Basically, Bute is still learning and will get better with more experience. He has all the tools and potential to achieve greatness, and maybe in that repect, i may over-rate him, as do some others, but i guess time will tell. We'll see what he will get done next friday against Berrio.
