I only felt this emotion in the week leading upto my first bout. I unfortunately lost...I was 11 years old and let the nerves get the better of me...I also found out later on that I was in with a kid who already had 5-6 bouts. It's ok though, I fought him again about 5-6 years later and beat him in the ABA's by a wide margin.

I was the same as Gilly, it took me a good 10 bouts to settle down, after that I can honestly say I never got nervous for a bout anymore...I know they say a little bit of nerves can help you out...but I never used to, can't explain it! :huh

First fight was was 9 months into training, 3 months into sparring at age 13. Had no idea if I was any good or not, but suspected not. Plus all I knew how to do was to jab. That's all my trainer taught me. Refused to teach me anything else.

The fight was at a casino in the states against a local 2 yrs older and heavier in front of 1000+ people who essentially cheered like mad for him, and boo'd me. :?

Was never more scared in my life. Wanted to run the hell out of there, ceptin is was about 7 hrs driving and maybe 3 days running on foot back to the border. So had to fight I guess.

I used all I knew, was taught, and basically jabbed the guys face off. I had a few inches in reach so every time he stepped in wildly I just jabbed him, over, and over, and over..

By the time the fight ended I had won over some supporters cuz people were chanting..."go red! atta be red!" and I was in complete lala land and still kinda miffed i got boo'd so badly. I shouted out to the crowd of over 1000 partially to mostly drunk people, current and ex-soldiers and their families..."Yea....Go Canada! Fuk the USA!" (everyone on our team trying to shush me)

It was Veteran's Day.

My dad and grandparents said we were lucky to make it out of there alive. :rofl

A huge defining moment and one of the greatest feelings in my life. I've won a national title since and it paled in comparison to how great this felt.

I won on a countback, lad had had 3 fights, was at superheavy, he was quite slow I just used a simple 1-2 all night sometimes throwing a left hook and pivoting away from him. I thought I won clearly but it was at his home show so the judging was slightly biased.
