I think slowly but surely the average mixed martial artist is evolving to become even more dynamic. Guys started off with 1 style, then they mixed effective styles (boxing, wrestling etc) BUT as fighters improve their knowledge, timing etc they are employing more versatile approaches.
Anderson Silva is fighting guys with his hands low and moving his head like a boxer would.
Frankie Edgar is moving his head with the frequency of a boxer.
Machida is bringing in versatile kicks as is GSP.
Melendez goes to the body with a suprising frequency.
These are the sort of things where people would have argued against but as fighters improve it looks like MMA is still evolving and becoming more versatile.
