View Full Version : Would a ref protect Floyd more than other Hatton opponents?

Against Floyd I can see Hatton getting called up on some of his rougher tactics more.
Anyone agree?

dont think that it will matter, I think that Hatton will have trouble getting close enough to imploy his one punch and grab attack.

The ref will be more focused on protecting Hatton, as PBF systematically brutalizes him.

I think Mayweather will get caught up at times and both will be clinching quite alot.
This fight isn't going to be pretty.
People at the end will either be moaning about Hatton being deducted points or people moaning that he wasn't deducted points for rough tactics.

really depends on the ref and the location of the fight.

Agreed.
One punch at a time and then clinch isn't going to work on Floyd.

No, but chopping him down to the body early could pay huge dividends for Ricky later if he can take the punches it'll take to land them- which, unless he gets cut badly, I think he can.
That fight's no walk-through for either fighter.

that's really not a very accurate description of Hatton's style.

Floyd doesn't clinch. I have never seen him clinch in a fight. He defends up close, hits you with his shoulders, and turns you. His defense is that good, he is always in a position to punch in close.

I'd bet more money that Floyd insists on Jay Nady than I would that either fighter wins the fight.

Of course he would be able to take the punches to land them. DLH could TAKE the punches. Baldomir could TAKE the punches. It's not a matter of Hatton being able to take Floyd's shots, it's about Floyd's superior speed and footwork.
Floyd isn't going to trade one for one, for every punch he lands Hatton gets a freebie. It's going to take a lot more than being able to "take a punch to land one". He's going to have to find Floyd which will be much harder.

if they stop hatton from clinching, they should stop floyd from running..both good at throwing a couple of punches then clinches/runs...the ref will dictate who wins this:hat

Agreed, just remember how Collazo nailed hatton on the chin few times, the guy has very good chin, but floyds just better boxer.Floyd will win by 3-4 rounds, since hatton most likely gona try to hug some rounds from floyd:yep

You mean the low blows, elbows, holding and hitting, shoving...etc?(watch the Kostya fight for more), I don't see any problems with that, a referee SHOULD not allow such tactics to happen and as far as I know clinching all the time calls for a point deduction and a DQ.

looked to me every time castillo got close and was working the body he got told to keep them up as if he was hitting low. wouldnt be a problem if the ref didnt explain to them in the middle of the ring that hattons protector and trunks were high. dont see the ref being a problem with hattons jump in, hit, and grab style. floyd will catch him all night coming in.

Kostya was dirty in their fight too though.
I think Hatton will at least try and rough Mayweather up, which will make the choice of ref important.
What fight do you believe Ricky deserved a DQ in for excessive clinching?

This notion that Hatton hits and holds is bullshit. You guys need to get off of this. Yes, Hatton fights in close. He will clinch, but he hits in the clinch. He remains a high rate of activity and punch output, unlike Ruiz, who so many of you are comparing him to. I don't see Hatton's style being a problem with any ref, even Nady. Simply because he is active. The rules against clinching/holding as I understand them are in place in order to prevent the unfair restraining of the opponent and to keep the action going. My observation of Hatton is that he fights on the inside, and any clinching or holding is the inevitable result of arms getting tangled or his opponent trying not to get hit, and yes, occasionally Ricky holding with one arm and hitting with the other.

Will the refs protect Hatton by calling PBF body shots low blows????
Happened on both the Zoo and Castillo fight, coincidentally.
